M3) HOW THE MEASUREMENT WAS TAKEN TO ENSURE ACCURACY In order to get an accurate reading, we used length, mass and balance to weigh the conkers. We used a digital vernier calliper to measure the conkers in millimetres. We make sure that the balance was on zero before weighing the conkers. We avoided leaning on the table that the balance was on and make sure that it was not in a draught to get an accurate reading. We tried to judge the longest part of the conker to measure. We make the calliper and the readings were on zero when the jaws touch or in contact.

(c. M3) HOW THE DATA WAS ARRANGED AND THE ADVANTAGES OF GROUPING THE DATA We divide the data into three groups so that it will be easier to count. After everything s been counted, we grouped the data together using Microsoft excel in ascending order (from small to large). We then print the data and divided them between our groups. One of the advantages of grouping the data was we were able to plot graphs with the result. Another advantage of grouping the data was because they were grouped, there were no mistakes of mixing them up. (d. D3) THE QUANTITIES WE RECORD AND THE ADVANTAGES OF EACH TYPE OF MEASUREMENT The quantities recorded were the weight, length and mass. Measurement Mass Advantages Its easier to measure. It gives qualitative and accurate results, which means it does not rely on our judgement. Disadvantages Reading can be sensitive to other weights e.g. when leaning on the table where the reading is taking place. The results will be inaccurate when in a draught. It was difficult to find the longest part.

Length

Its easier to measure and it gives quick accurate results.

2. (P4) POSSIBLE ERRORS THAT MAY HAVE OCCURED We may have measured the wrong length because it was hard to find. The results may not have been accurate if you lean on the desk where the data were being measured. If the reading is not on zero when the jaws are closed, the reading will be inaccurate. The results will be inaccurate if there is a draught.

A REPORT TO DISCUSS WHETHER THE TWO CONKERS SAMPLES ARE SIMILAR OR DIFFERENT The table shows the different results recorded by each and every other group in the classroom. The results are all different but are somehow identical when or if rounded up. The conkers from Mitcham T.C is very different from the other data results because it was in larger in size and longer with a length of 33.34. The conkers from road Morden is the shortest of the group with a length of 4.15. The conkers from London road is medium in size with a length of 28.90.

TASK 4 (M5) A REPORT TO DISCUSS WHETHER THE TWO CONKERS SAMPLES ARE SIMILAR OR DIFFERENT

Morden hall Median Mode Mode Mean Mean Mean Range Range Length Mass Length Mass Length Mass Length Mass 25 4.3 26.5 4.15 24.17 4.38 15.46 5.73 100

London road 28.90 6.90 28.90 6.99 28.42 6.80 20.03 9.24 133

Mitcham transport 32.995 10.5 33.35 10.67 33.34 10.66 11.94 9.71 25

The table below shows all different results each group recorded in the classroom. The results are all different but are somehow identical when rounded up. The conkers from Mitcham T.C was very different from the other data results because it was in larger in size. The heaviest and longest of the three are ones from Mitcham T.C, as they have a mean length of 33.34mm, whereas London road has 28.4mm and Modern hall 24.7mm and also the Mitcham T.C has a median of 10.5 and a mode mass of 10.67, where London roads also has a median of 6.90 and a mass mode of 6.99. The conkers from Mitcham bears little or similarity to the others, with a mean of 24.7mm, this proves that they are shortest and its median and mode is less than half of the Mitcham T.Cs.
