At the end of this article I have included 3 charts and an explanatory note, as follows:

1. A Chart (Series 4) that lists the titles of the 10 Six Minute Talks with the corresponding Talk Number.

These Scripts or Articles could be read or downloaded from ScribD

2. A Chart (Series 3) that lists out the series of talks that covers the subject

‘Muslim History’ or ‘Islamic History’. This interesting subject is covered in two approaches. One set of talks (Talk No’s 114 & 116) are an outline of what happened, and The second lot of talks (Talk No’s 117 to 119) is a description of the reaction of the Muslim world or the Muslim Populace to the changes or the social tribulations that were taking place right throughout this history.

3. A Chart (Series 2) that lists out the 16 Talks (or Episodes) under the series

Knowing Allah Ta’aalah or Knowing GOD’ These Scripts or Articles too could be read or downloaded from ScribD

4. Notes to these talks or to these scripts/ articles

The main objective of these talks (and therefore the scripts of these talks), is to stimulate thinking. Sensible, rational and logical thinking. So, my message, think, think & think! Be sensible, be rational and be logical.

#142 Mubeen

This article is best read in ‘Firefox’ You may notice some ‘grey shadowy letters’

Dear Friends,

behind the Arabic letters when you use other browsers such as ‘Chrome’. This is a new development. These shadowy letters are not there in the articles that I have uploaded earlier. Insha Allah, hoping to sort it out soon.

هتاكرب و للها ةحم ر و م ك ي لع ملا س ل ا

Some years ago I was with some friends. One of my friends had the name Abdul Kareem and the other had the name Mubeen, and he was living in Slave Island (a Zone in Colombo, where resides some of the simplest and nicest of Muslims).

Abdul Kareem told Mubeen (of course jokingly) There is one Mubeen in Slave Island, but did you know that the word Mubeen appears 7 times in Surah Yaseen?

I thought “We are often told that Surah Yaseen is an important Surah in the Qur’aan and in fact quite a

few of us memorize this Surah, so if this word Mubeen is appearing 7 times in this Surah, then it must be quite an important word”

My good friend Abdul Kareem passed away some years ago. Big Man! Big Heart! We used to (quite often) go on Tabligh missions and his efforts and style of work is ‘legend’ in Sri Lanka. Especially his willingness to work in difficult, cold and mountainous areas, like Nuwara Eliya, Hatton, Agarapattane and Maskeliya. May Allah Ta’aalah accept his efforts, forgive his mistakes, and grant him Jannathul Firdhouse!

So recently I began to read Surah Yaseen and list out the places where this word Mubeen appeared and then try to work out the context in which this word was being used.

By reading the English translations I was able to make out that Mubeen meant ‘to make clear’, so the 7 times it appeared in Surah Yaseen it must be indicating to us that something is very clear or that Allah is instructing us to observe carefully because something has been made very clear to us.

That something or those ‘somethings’ has to be something important! What could these somethings or these things that are Mubeen be?

I found this exercise to be really interesting.

So let me list those somethings that have been mentioned in Surah Yaseen as having been made clear to us. Remember, it is not those things that are clear but it is those things that has been made clear. In Surah Yaseen we find the phrases;

1. Imaamim Mubeen

2. Balaaghul Mubeen

3 & 4. DHlalaalin Mubeen This phrase appears twice

5. Ghadhoowum Mubeen

6. Qur’aanum Mubeen and

7. Khaseemum Mubeen

So what my friend told was correct. The word Mubeen does appear 7 times in Surah Yaseen. Let me read and discuss these words or these phrases, one by one; (See next page)

1.

Regarding Imaamim Mubeen, we are instructed;

I delved a little more in to find out as to how many times this phrase ينِب ُ لْْ ا غُ

I was able to locate 7 such Aayaths.

In all 7 instances the Aayath informs or instructs us that the duty or the obligation of the Messengers (the

3 & 4. The phrase Dhlalaalin Mubeen appears twice in Surah Yaseen and means ‘clear error’ So Allah is instructing us to recognize clear error. In fact I was able to locate this phrase ‘Dhlalaalin Mubeen’ appearing in 15 other Aayaths in the Quran, thus with the two occurrences in Surah Yaseen, the phrase Dhlalaalin Mubeen appeared 17 times in the Quran

Does this not mean that Allah is going in to much detail to guide us to recognize the signs of clear error – ‘Dhlalaalin Mubeen’?

5. Now we have the phrase

Who is this clear enemy? Let us read the Aayath from Surah Yaseen.

Allah is not telling us that the enmity of Shaithaan is clear to Allah, we all know that. But what Allah is instructing us that that the enmity of Shaithaan has been made clear to us. This evidence of Shaithaan’s enmity should be clear to us, should be clear to me. So I ask, ‘How do I detect or recognize this clear-ness?’ I ask the question, ‘How do I recognize Shaithaan or even his enmity? How do I?

I did a little more research and I found that Allah repeats this warning phrase 8 times in the Quran. In 3 instances Allah uses the wording;

Now how do we recognize Shaithaans enmity? In the Quran itself Allah instructs us that we cannot see Shaithaan, though Shaithaan observes us.

(7:27) Part - Indeed, he observes you

So we find that we are in a sort of a mini dilemma.

ينِب ٌّ م ُ و ٌّ ُ

Allah instructs us that Shaithaan is ُ

us. Then Allah also instructs us that we cannot see Shaithaan and his Kabeelah.

د َّ ع’ – a clear enemy or rather his enmity has been made clear to

Now when we put these facts together does it not point out that though we cannot see Shaithaan we should be able to recognize his enmity? We should be able to recognize his diverse and deceptive ploys and schemes. And how would this be possible, by learning about Shaithaan from the Aayaths in the Quran. We should contemplate deeply on the many pointers or Aayaths in the Quran that describes Shaithaans ploys, schemes and strategies and then detect his maneuvers in our affairs on Earth. This is how Allah has made the enmity of Shaithaan clear to all of us.

6. Then in Surah Yaseen we have this phrase Qur’an-um Mubeen, which means the Quran that has been made clear. The instruction here is that the Quran has been made clear, but then we must apply ourselves to learning from the Quran by recognizing that clear-ness.

In our plight, an important step to learning from the Quran would be that we would have to seriously begin learning Arabic the Arabic of the Quran.

Alhamdulillah, fortunately in this day and age there are many free sites on the Web where very dedicated and talented teachers are devoting their time to teaching this Arabic and the courses are in English.

Is it not our loss entirely if we do not avail ourselves of these opportunities?

Let me now read the Aayath in Surah Yaseen that mentions the phrase Quraanum Mubeen (See next page)

3

142 Mubeen

(36:69) We did not teach him poetry, and it is not proper for him.

It is nothing but a ZIKR and a Qur’aan that has been made clear

ه ُ

Here we are instructed that the Qur’aan has been made clear. Well, many of us or to most of us would say ‘No, to us the Quran is not clear’ The main reason we would put forward is that we do not understand Arabic. This is actually not a good or even a valid excuse. We learn so many complicated subjects, and we learn these complicated subjects because we desire that knowledge because of the benefits that would be ours through that knowledge.

Similarly if we had sincere belief that we must learn the knowledge that is available for us through the Qur’aan, then all of us would devote ourselves to learning Arabic.

Now in this Aayath we are instructed;

(36:69) Part - It is nothing but a ZIKR and a Qur’aan that has been made clear,

﴾١٦

So to me this Aayath indicates that a way of making the knowledge in the Quran clear is by doing Zikr of the Aayaths of the Qur’aan. Again to do proper Zikr, which would involve deep contemplation, we would also need to have a good grounding in the knowledge of the Arabic language.

7. The next phrase of Surah Yaseen that contains the word Mubeen is ‘Khaseemum Mubeen’ which

appears in Aayath no 77:

(36:77) Did man not see that We have created him from a drop of semen?

Then suddenly he stood as an open adversary (to Us).

So in brief, there are 7 Aayaths in Surah Yaseen that contains the word Mubeen, which means ‘has been made clear’ Two of these instances involve the word DHlalalin or Dhlalaalin Mubeen which means error that has been made clear.

The other 5 involve the words:

1. Imaamim Mubeen

2. Balaaghul Mubeen

3 & 4. DHlalaalin Mubeen which appears twice

5.

Ghadhoowum Mubeen

6.

Qur’aanum Mubeen and

7.

Khaseemum Mubeen

In brief we are instructed that

1.

The Prophets duty or obligation is Balaaghul Mubeen or to make clear the Aayaths of Allah

2.

The collection of Aayaths of the Qur’aan has been made clear or Quraanum Mubeen

4

142 Mubeen

3.

The errors we make have been made clear or DHLalaalim Mubeen

4. The enmity of Shaithaan has been made clear or ghadhdhoowumMubeen

5. The rebellious nature of Insaan or Man has been made clear – ‘KhaseemumMubeen, and finally we

are instructed that every deed of ours good or evil is recorded in a registry that has been made clear

ImaamimMubeen.

There are many things to think about aren’t there?

Now, we would say none of these are clear! The message in the Quran is that all these 7 Mubeens indicate 7 things that have been made clear to us. But then there is a condition, an important condition.

These things have been made clear through the Aayaths of the Quran. So if we wish to see these things or the message of these things clearly then we would have to recite the Qur’aan as it should be recited and then follow the instructions of the Qur’aan as it should be followed. That is what is important! Does that not make sense?

Only the Registry or the Imaamum Mubeen would be made clear to us on the Day of Judgment, when all our deeds would be presented to us or displayed to us. (Or is the Quran informing us that the evidence of this Registry is clear to us? Interesting isn’t it?)

All the others would be made clear to us in this world itself!

Imagine, the Aayaths of the Quraan would be clear to us and the enmity of Shaithaan would be clear to us, the errors we humans are making would be clear to us and so on. Maasha Allah what wisdom we would be endowed with!

Now I began this whole exercise of looking into the word Mubeen because my friend’s name was Mubeen and we were told that this word appears 7 times in Surah Yaseen. But then whilst doing this research I was able to find out more about this word Mubeen and its many appearances in the Quran.

Let me describe this to you briefly.

The word Mubeen is derived from the triliteral root bā yā & nūn (ن ي ب )

All the words based on this triliteral root of bā yā & nūn occurs 523 times in the Quran.

For example:

The word Bayna or ‘between’ appears 266 times The Form 2 Verb Bayaanu or ‘to make clear’ appears 35 times The Form 4 Verb Mubeen or ‘has been made clear’ appears 119 times

Grammatically Mubeen is a verb, and in Arabic is classified as a Form 4 verb. Which means it is a transitive verb and doubly so. Which means that not only is the Quran clear but the Quran makes itself clear.

Which means the Quran is repeatedly instructing us that many things that we think are not clear would be made clear if we recite the Quran the way it should be recited and obey the instructions in the Quran the way those instructions should be obeyed.

So just imagine, the Quran makes many things clear to us, it is we who have to take the initiative and devote ourselves to the Quran so that the true effects of the Quran would make these things clear to us.

5

142 Mubeen

So when we read the Quran and contemplate on the message in the Quran we begin to get glimpses of the message of the Quran. Dear Friends, all this time I was explaining to you about what I was discovering about the word Mubeen.

Mubeen means has been made clear and Allah is pointing out to us through His Quran that there were many things that Allah is making clear to us.

Now like I mentioned the word Mubeen is derived from the triliteral root bā yā & nūn. Another word derived from this triliteral root is the word bayan which means to make clear, to explain, to expound.

Now just listen to what Allah points out to us in Surah Rahmaan.

(55:1) The RaHmān (The All-Merciful Allah)

ن ـ ْ ر لا

﴾ ٢ ﴿ حم

ُ

ٰ َّ

َّ

(55:2) has taught the Qur’ān.

﴿ ن آ ر قْلا مَّ ل َّ

(55:3) He has created man.

قَّ ل

﴾ ﴿ ٣ ن ا س نلِْْ ا خ

َّ

َّ

َّ َّ

(55:4) He has taught him (how) to express himself.

﴿ ن َّ ا َّ ي َّ بْلا ُ مَّ َّ ل َّ

ه

ع

So when we put these Aayaths together we find that; Allah tells us the Quran makes things clear. That Allah teaches the Quran and Allah has created Insaan or Man and also taught Insaan to make things clear.

Wonderful isn’t it?

I think I should explain that again.

Allah is Rahmaan or Beneficent - Ar Rahmaan Allah teaches the Quran. – Allamal Qur’aan The Qur’an makes things clear – Quraanum Mubeen Allah has created Insaan Khalaqal Insaan Allah has taught Insaan how to make things clear AllamaHul Bayaan.

Wonderful isn’t it?

Allah has created us as communicators. We are His creation that possesses the gift of explaining or making things clear. He has also provided for us the Quran, which is guidance and is clear.

We have to contemplate on the message in the Quran so that it becomes clear and then we have to explain it or make it clear to others.

So in the Quran itself there are 119 Aayaths that contains the word Mubeen.

7

of these Aayaths are in Surah Yaseen, and in Surah Yaseen we are instructed

1.

Imaamim Mubeen

2.

Balaaghul Mubeen

3

& 4. DHlalaalin Mubeen which appears twice

6

142 Mubeen

5.

Ghadhoowum Mubeen

6. Qur’aanum Mubeen and

7. Khaseemum Mubeen

Now you could ask the question “How does the Quran make things clear?” Let me read to you some Aayaths from the Quran that explains this. Aayath No 20 of Surah Saad, points out to us some of the objectives of the Qur’an or the Kithaab.

(38:29) This is a blessed Book We have revealed to you, they deliberate in its verses, and it’s Zikr is done by the men of understanding

Which obviously implies that if we want to understand the true meanings of the Quran, then we should do it’s Zikr.

How do we do Zikr? This too is explained through many Aayaths in the Quran. Let me read just two of them. These are Aayath No’s 190 & 191 of Surah Aal E Imraan.

(3:190) Surely, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are signs for the people of wisdom,

Let me now read a few Aayath from the Quran that points out to us the message in the Quran, and how Allah has made this message clear to us and it is for us to explain or make clear these Aayaths or these signs to others.

(6:157) Part -

Now there has come to you a

It is a mercy Wa Rahmathun

Similarly, let me read Aayath No 57 of Surah Yunus

In this Aayath Allah is pointing out to us another 3 sublime qualities of the Quran It is an advice or a counsel from our Rabb = MauwiDHzathum Mir Rabikum It is a cure for the ailments of the Swudhoor or the heart Wa Shifaaul lima Fee Swudhoori It is a guidance and a mercy for those who are believers Wa Hudha(n)w Wa Rahmathuthul lil Mu’mineen.

There are many more such Aayaths explaining many facts to us. Facts that are not obvious. These facts or these Aayaths of the Quran is what would give us wisdom and let us understand many of the mysteries of the world.

It is for all of us to realize the importance of this message and devote our time to learning, learning from the Quran. Not just learning to recite the Quran with Tajweed. Not just learning to memorize selected Surah’s from the Quran. But we must also actually more importantly, we must devote time to learning Arabic and then learn the art of reading each Aayath of the Quran whilst seriously contemplating on each word used in every Aayath.

As we keep on doing this then we would find that Aayaths as well as words in Aayaths would begin to make connections with other Aayaths and other similar word in the other Aayaths of the Quran. Then and only then would be begin to see the picture that the Quran is painting for all of us to appreciate.

Learning and understanding the Quran is a great intellectual exercise. Only when we get down to studying it as an intellectual achievement would be seriously attempt to understanding the words phrases and Aayaths of the Quran.

I sincerely pray and hope that all of you benefit from these talks as much as I benefit from preparing and then presenting these talks to you.

May Allah Ta’aalah guide us all and accept us all.

Jazza Kalla Khairan. Assalamu Alaikum

I have covered this vast area in 5 talks. (This is insufficient)

The first two talks were on the history and the next three talks were from another viewpoint.

I discuss the response of the Muslims due to the many changes that were affecting their lives their religion and thus their culture.

Please Note

1.

I

have had the great privilege, (since Aug 2010), of presenting talks on the weekly Radio Program

‘Culture of Islam’ [

Friday 5.30 to 6.00 am, Radio Sri Lanka - FM 97.4

]

2.

Since these are Radio Talks, I refer to, or address the audience as ‘listeners’

3.

I

am well aware that the audience to these talks would consist of people belonging to a variety of

faiths. So as to make people of all faiths feel included, I very often use words and names that are common to all religions.

4.

For these reasons, I use the name GOD, as well as Abraham, Moses, Jesus etc as well as the names Allah, Ibrahim (Alaihis Salaam), Moosa (Alaihis Salaam), Easa (Alaihis Salaam) etc

5.

Muslims by habit usually say ‘Sallallahu Alaihiwasallam’, when the name of Prophet Muhammad is mentioned, and ‘Alaihis Salaam' when the name of a Prophet is mentioned. However, in these

series of talks I have reduced the use of these prayers & sayings to the bare minimum.

6.

Muslims, also by habit, use a number of Arabic prayers or sayings, such as Alhamdulillah, Insha Allah and so on. Again, I have reduced the use of these prayers or sayings to the bare minimum.

7.

Sometimes I have to write Arabic words in the English script.

I

have devised my own way of writing Arabic in English, as follows;
