English Committee for Dialogue and Communication

E.C.D.C. Conceptual Framework Guidelines

Target audience: E.C.D.C. Administrative Office.
Objectives: Discussion, decision, and action.
1. Assessing ECDC achievements and making
right decisions:
Since the beginning of its foundation on the 28th April, 2006, ECDC has
witnessed some-not to say many- changes on the level of project works
and organization. Yet there hasn’t been approximately any basic
development in our conceptions, vision, and common
understanding of our objectives and framework. Yes, many works
have been performed and proved the physical existence of our
committee among students; however, the obscure and
incomprehensible identity of our body reveals the weakness of
our soul and consequently exposes our project- if it deserves to
be called as such- to risk and decline. We need to make sure all
ECDC members have learned common conceptual framework guidelines
by heart so that we can have a coherent body and deserve to be called
‘committee’ or ‘organization’. To overcome this dilemma, it’s urgent for
any INTERESTED member to talk, collectively with other
members, over all the problems we consider to be serious and
pressing. Such talk should consider figuring out practical and
reasonable solutions to each problem provided that any suggestion the
Administrative Office agrees upon should be backed up with a sense of
commitment and responsibility. Any judgment, decision, or action
shouldn’t be based on vacuum. ECDC should draw on its history-
documents, reports, drafts, publications-to take a right step
forward. Archiving any action taken by ECDC, collectively or individually,
is of paramount importance in rating our development, checking the
points that need improvement, and make the right decision(s) for the
phase to come.
2. Containing differences and Building up a
philosophy of work:
Since the outset, ECDC has been communicative in nature. It hasn’t
had no pre-set ideas or ideology about who specifically to address and
what discourse to adopt. Yet, communication has taken place openly,
safely, effectively, and successfully. The secret behind this will be the key
word to contain the differences around us and build up our philosophy of
work. The experiences we have accumulated since the rise of this project
are enough to know what discourse to opt for among many other
discourses.
Most of the mainstream discourses on the field seem to advocate
ideology, politics, revolution, fanaticism, racism, extremism,
exclusivism…etc. These have proved their failure in establishing a
positive rapport between themselves and their audience/students. The
right choice is therefore the one we have been practicing without being
aware; it is the one that addresses the other as a part of ourselves, not as
an enemy to overpower. If you noticed, most of us feel happy expressing
his mind in English and listening to others taking their turn in lovely and
respectful manners.
It’s here where the secret lies: A mutual interaction where all parts of
communication negotiate and struggle to find out the points of
English Committee for Dialogue and Communication
intersection among them- That is, to achieve a common general
consensus. We might have been different in details, as in how we look at
a particular issue, yet we often feel joined by a common sense of shared
values: communication, listening, respect, tolerance, understanding, and
other germs of character.
3.Broadening our space and thinking up new
horizons:
After we decide on the general philosophy and discourse as pointed to
before, much endeavor shall be made to broaden our work space and
devise new areas of communication. Central to this objective are
membership and partnership.

To start with membership, as already explained somewhere, is broken

down into three categories: 1st grade member (any member of the
Administrative Office who manages one of E.C.D.C. sub-committees), 2nd
grade member (any member inside any sub-committee), and 3rd grade
member (any member who is not in charge with any responsibility in the
committee). This division is based, not on effectiveness and participation,
but rather on the tasks/functions and responsibilities assigned to each
member. It is recommended that any member, especially those in charge
with a high responsibly in the committee, to suggest his or her ideas,
plans, and proposals to contribute to the acceleration of E.C.D.C.
development from his or her part. It is also advocated that Administrative
Office should consider VARIETY in the form and content of E.C.D.C.
activities. For instance, A.O. should vary the form and patterns of
communication in both Oral and Written activities. Likewise, the content of
the topics suggested for discussion should embody the principle of variety
and tackle interesting, present and past issues, no matter what category
they belong to.

Besides, E.C.D.C. should devote much time to think up a plan to widen

E.C.D.C. work space. There shouldn’t be such overdependence on one field
(which is here Moulay Ismail faculty of arts and humanities) to realize our
objectives. WE must establish more forms of partnership and work spaces.
Here, I suggest TWO large categories: On-land partnership and On-line
partnership.

On the On-land level, E.C.D.C. can further enlarge its body by creating
as many branches as possible all over Morocco. A very simple plan can be
made to realize this objective. If we take by granted that E.C.D.C.
constitutes an organic part of O.S.R. (Organization of Student Renewal),
the matter will be easy for us to contact O.S.R. members in different
branches and offices in Morocco, explain to them the IDEA, have them
adopt it and constitute their branches provided that Méknes branch will be
the Central Office. If we manage to take this step, E.C.D.C will make a shift
from the local level and become national. The process of nationalization is
the next phase to think about, so let us overlook any UNREASONABLE
feelings as far as the relationship between E.C.D.C. and O.S.R.
English Committee for Dialogue and Communication
On the On-line level, ECDC should think forward to start up online
relationships with broad partners- individuals, committees, leagues,
organizations, associations and schools- to benefit from their experiences
and transfer to them our own. Such partnership should be based on
common interests, values and concerns. An initial step has been made on
this way when we started creating some forums, yet that initiation, and all
ECDC works too, still lacks that sense of professionalism and formality. I
herby call all ECDC members to exert more and more effort to formalize
their work and make it a little bit accurate and legible.

I hope these suggestions will be of utility to keep the lamp of our project
burning.

Thank you.
