What a great turn out for the Fiestas Patrias La nas last Sunday! Congratula ons to all who worked so hard to make it a wonderful day. We are proud to have people from many La n American countries in our parish and though we live here, it is good remember our Madre Patria, our roots and our culture. Please pray for our Youth Ministry and Religious Educa on Programs which got underway this week, with the Youth beginning in October. We have upwards of 800 children and young people coming to the parish for various classes and ac vi es. Ma , Larry and Elena have a daun ng but exci ng task ahead, but with our support and the magnicent contribu on of our teachers it promises to be a frui ul year 2013/2014. Let us keep them all in our prayers. Watch out for the St. Francis Fes val beginning with the Transitus (Passing) of St. Francis on Thursday September 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the Historic Church. Details may be found in your bulle n, in the special edi on of the San Luis Rey Community Newsle er which you will have go en last Sunday and on the back page this week. The Small Chris an Communi es will have a General Mee ng on November 22 at 7 PM and November 23 at 9 AM in the Serra Center, and will be invi ng new members to a end. It is hoped to do some forward planning and move ahead with the help of a facilitator. Elec ons will be held and a new leadership put in place. We look forward to refreshing our vision and renewing the wonderful spirit of the SCCs in our parish. Details will be made available in October. Welcome Sunday is drawing close (Sunday, October 6) so if you need space for your par cular ministry now is the me to get moving with a phone call to Marta Werner or to the Parish Oce. This ministry provides ongoing emoonal support for people in the midst of their grief and the healing process. COLLECTION FOR FRANCISCAN MISSIONARY UNION

A PILGRIMAGE TO THE SHRINES OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION FOR IMMIGRATION REFORM


Join people across the country in a Na onal Day of Ac on calling on Congress to vote on Immigra on Reform this year. San Diego County Communi es will meet at 10 AM on October 5th at 6th Ave and Laurel (downtown, near Balboa Park) to march together to the Federal Building and call for immigra on reform that promotes fair and just laws. The event will nish at 1 PM.

HELPING TO DONATE A BIBLE AND A CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH


Our parish community each year welcomes adults into the RCIA program. One of the key elements of their catechesis is coming to know the Scriptures, the word of God, on a weekly basis. Adults new to the Catholic Faith or returning to the Faith have ques ons that need the catechism for reference in class. A dona on of $20.00, or of any amount, would help us purchase these books. Your help would be appreciated. If you wish to give, you may make a dona on at the Parish Oce, or drop it into the collec on in an envelope marked Bibles. Que gran asistencia tuvimos de las Fiestas Patrias La nas el domingo pasado! Felicidades a todos los que trabajaron tan duramente para hacerlo un da maravilloso. Estamos orgullosos de tener a gente de muchos pases de Amrica La na en nuestra parroquia y aunque vivimos aqu, es bueno recordar a nuestra Madre Patria, nuestras races y nuestra cultura. Por favor oren por nuestro Programas de Educacin Religiosa el cual inici esta semana y el Ministerio de Jvenes que iniciar en octubre. Tenemos ms de 800 nios y jvenes que vendrn a la parroquia para varias clases y ac vidades. Ma , Larry y Elena enen un gran desa o pero emocionante tarea por delante, con nuestro apoyo y la magnicente contribucin de nuestros maestros, que promete ser un ao fruc fero 2013/2014. Tengmoslos a todos en nuestras oraciones. Estn pendientes del Fes val de San Francisco de Ass comenzando con el Transitus (la muerte) de San Francisco, el jueves, 3 de sep embre a las 7:00 p.m. en la Iglesia Histrica. Los detalles se encuentran en el bole n y en la edicin especial de la hoja informa va de San Luis Rey la cual estaba dentro del bolen el pasado n de semana. Las Pequeas Comunidades Cris anas tendrn una Reunin General el 22 de noviembre e invitaremos a que asistan nuevos miembros. Esperamos planicar a largo plazo e ir hacia adelante con la ayuda de un facilitador. Se har una nueva eleccin y se escogern a los nuevos lideres. Esperamos refrescar nuestra visin y renovar el maravilloso espritu de las PCC en nuestra parroquia. Los detalles estarn disponibles en octubre. El Domingo de Bienvenida ya se acerca (domingo, 6 de octubre), si van a necesitar un lugar (mesas) para su ministerio en par cular, ahora es el momento de movilizarse y hacerle una llamada a Marta Werner, Coordinadora de Voluntarios o comunquense a la Ocina Parroquial. Esperamos ver a todos los ministerios de la parroquia presentes para darle la bienvenida a los feligreses nuevos de la Parroquia Misin San Luis Rey y obtener miembros nuevos para su ministerio. La UMF apoya las Misiones Franciscanas en Mxico, Rusia, La Tierra Santa y Territorios Na vo Americanos en el suroeste de los EE.UU. Los sobres estarn disponibles en las sillas durante las Misas. The Franciscan Friars of Old Mission San Luis Rey invite you take part in various celebrations to honor St. Francis of Assisi.
Thursday, Oct. 3rd Transitus of St. Francis of Assisi, 7 p.m. in the Historic Church
A short service of prayer and reflection remembering the death of St. Francis. It is traditional to celebrate his passing on the anniversary of his death. Dessert reception to follow in the Sacred Garden.

Saturday, Oct. 5th Festival of St. Francis Blessing of the Animals, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
In this special joint event, long-held traditions from OMMS and the Parish are being incorporated into a larger community event. There will be two blessings of the animals (11am and 2pm), and an animal costume contest at 1pm. Stay and enjoy food, artisans, vendors, a kids fun-zone (fundraiser for OMMS 6th grade camp), a silent auction for Social Concerns. Many animal rescue groups will have information and animals available for adoption. This is a free event and all are welcome! Parking $5 per car.

Sbado, 5 de Oct. Festival de San Francisco Bendicin de las Mascotas, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

En este evento colectivo especial, una tradicin de hace mucho tiempo de la Escuela Montessori y de la Parroquia se incorporan en un evento comunitario ms grande. Habr dos tiempos para la bendicin de las mascotas (11 a.m. y 2 p.m.), un concurso de vestuario de mascotas a la 1 p.m. Qudate a disfrutar de comida, artesanas, vendedores, una zona de diversin para nios (recaudacin de fondos para el grado sexto de la Escuela Montessori), una subasta para Asuntos Sociales. Muchos grupos de rescate de animales estarn presente para dar informacin y tendrn mascotas disponibles para adopcin. Este evento es gratuito y todos son bienvenidos! Estacionamiento es $5 por vehculo.
