SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
The Horatio Alger ScholarshipStudents must be a full time student for the entire school year, plan to enter college in the fall of 2014; critical financial need; involvement in co -curricular and community activities; minimum GPA of 2.0; and a citizen of the United States. Deadline is October 25. Apply at www.horatioalger.org/scholarship. Elks National Foundation awards scholarships to 500 high school seniors nationwide. The first place winners will be awarded $60,000. Others scholarships will range from $4,000 to $40,000. Applications are online at www.elk.org/ enf/scholars or www.elk./org/lodges. Application deadline is December 3rd. Washington University Danforth Scholarship: Students must be nominated by counselor. Applicants must exhibit a strong character of service and leadership; academic excellence, maturity, strong moral character, selflessness and a commitment to community. Nomination must be made by Oct. 15th. See your counselor to be nominated. Dartmouth College, Northwestern University, Princeton University, University of California, Berkley and Vanderbilt University will host a Student/Parent Information Session on Wednesday, October 2 at 7:00pm at Hilton Greenville, 45 West Orchard Park, Greenville. Francis Marion will host its 11th Annual SC Physics Scholar Institute November 14th-16th. Students will participate with their peers in a variety of advanced physics experiments in nuclear and atomic physics, lasers, health physics, medical physics and computational physics. Academy Day will be held for all juniors and seniors who are interested in an appointment to one of the nations military academies on Saturday, September 28th at the National Advocacy Center on 1620 Pendleton Street, Columbia, SC. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards recognize students who have demonstrated exemplary community service. All interested students should apply by November 5th online at spirit.prudential.com. Clemson University Minority Engineering and Science College Recruiting Weekend will be October 27th-29th. This is a sneak preview program designed to offer top minority seniors the chance to experience life as an engineering or science major. There is no cost. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA. Scholarship Opportunity:
AES Engineers Scholarship: Interested students should apply online by October 4th. Students must submit an essay on one of the two topics that appear on the scholarship page of the website. To apply visit the website www.scholarshipaward_aes@aesengineers.com University of Virginia: Associate Dean of Admission will be at Christ Church Episcopal Upper School on Monday, September 30th at 6:30 p.m. The admission process and campus life will be discussed.
College Visits
College visits give students and their parents the opportunity to visit potential colleges and universities. Seniors are granted three visits. College Visit forms must be completed and returned to your counselor one week prior to the visit. Upon returning, students are required to submit to the Attendance Clerk verification of their visit on the college letterhead. All visits must by made by March 15th, 2014.
