Railway Budget 2009-10

Key Highlights
• No increase in passenger fares across classes
• Tatkal fees reduced from Rs 150 to Rs 100
• Tatkal scheme to be reduced from 5 days to 2 days
• No hike in freight rates
• Railways will receive an additional budgetary support of Rs 5000 crore in the current year
• Kolkata Metro to get more extensions
• AC Yuva trains to be introduced at Rs 299 and Rs 399
• 12 new 'Turant' AC sleeper trains between major metros
• 12 new non-stop 'Turant' AC and non-AC train service between Howrah-Mumbai, Delhi-
Lucknow, Delhi-Chennai, Delhi-Pune, Delhi-Allahabad, Howrah-Delhi, Sealdah-Delhi and
Ernakulum-Delhi.
• New scheme 'Izzat' to be introduced under which monthly season ticket of Rs 25 for up to 100
kilometers could be availed by unorganised sector passengers
• Freight loading target for 2009-10 set at 882 million tonnes, an increase of 39 million tonnes
• Railways to set up Land Banks to be used for industry
• Railways to set up a 1000 MW power plant with NTPC
• Ladies' specials to be introduced in suburban trains during peak hours
• Ladies Special to be extended to Kolkata, Chennai
• Metro concession in Kolkata to minority students
• Photo-ID cards cum credit cards to be given to accredited journalists
