The Power of Positive Relationships Overview

Its All About Relationships!

At the root of all interactions is the quality of the relationship. An employee may join a company because of its prestige and reputation, but its the employees relationship with his or her immediate supervisor that determines how long the employee stays and how productive he or she will be. Today, eight out of ten employees report that they are not managed in a way that brings out the best they have to offer. It doesnt have to be this way. We can build organizations that are highly motivating and engaging by catching ourselves, our teammates, and even our bosses doing things right. We can build organizations that bring out the best in all of us. In day-to-day interactions, leaders have the ability to inuence the people around them. People want to be treated as an individual worthy of basic respect. They want someone to take interest in them and to help them succeed. What people really want is someone to inspire them. That someone could be you! The Ken Blanchard Companies is known for stressing the importance of positive relationships in all areas of our lives. Leaders and employees alike bring their personal lives into their work lives. They also bring their work lives home with them. Its important to consider the whole person and the life skills necessary for successful relationships (in and out of the workplace) when considering a training process.

Foster Positive Relationships

A recent survey of 5,000 workers in the United States revealed that only 51 percent were satised with their jobs compared to 59 percent in 1995 (The Conference Board, March 2002). In addition, the cost of replacing an employee ranges from 2946 percent of his or her annual salary. The challenge for managers and organizations to create motivated, productive, and positive workers has never been more critical.
