FACT SHEET DISARMAMENT YEARBOOK AND OTHER PUBLICATIONS

Disarmament Yearbook The United Nations Disarmament Yearbook is the flagship publication of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA). Published annually, it has been an excellent source of historical knowledge of developments, trends and achievements in the area of multilateral disarmament and non-proliferation for since 1976.

The publication is designed to be a concise reference and user-friendly tool for diplomats, researchers, students and the general public on disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control issues under consideration by the international community. The Disarmament Yearbook is a continuously evolving publication aiming not only to better serve its readers but also to become the primary source of information on multilateral disarmament issues. The Yearbook is divided into two distinctive parts. Part I contains the annual compilation of the text and statistics of disarmament-related resolutions and decisions of the previous General Assembly session and is published during the first half of the year. Part II of the Yearbook is divided among the main multilateral issues that were under consideration throughout the previous year. It presents developments and trends on the issues; a convenient issue-oriented timeline; short summaries of First Committee and General Assembly actions taken on resolutions and decisions;

the full texts of principal multilateral agreements reached during the previous year and declarations adopted by treaty review conferences. The Disarmament Yearbook is available in print and electronic format (available online at www.un.org/disarmament). The online version of the publication is available only up to the 2002 Disarmament Yearbook (Volume 27). The Yearbook is also available as an e-book which can be purchased from commercial retailers and downloaded to an e-reader portable device. The publication is translated into all official languages of the United Nations but only the English publication is available in print version. All other languages are available in electronic format.

Other principal UNODA publications The Occasional Papers: biannual publications of up-to-date issues in disarmament. They also include edited presentations made at international meetings, symposia, seminars and workshops organized or sponsored by UNODA or its regional centres in Lima, Lom and Kathmandu. A total of 21 Occasional Papers have been published so far. The UNODA Update: a quarterly electronic newsletter providing information on the activities of the Office in all relevant areas of disarmament. The Disarmament Study Series (Blue Book series): a publication which compiles studies and related documents from various groups of governmental experts or expert panels. The latest publication in the Studies Series is No. 33 (Developments in the Field of Information and Telecommunications in the Context of International Security). Other ad hoc publications: The latest being Disarmament A Basic Guide, a publication aimed at informing, educating and generating public awareness of the importance of multilateral disarmament issues.
