The SS8IO-1 8-Channel Audio Interface is a professional 2U 19 rack unit that provides 8 channels of balanced inputs and outputs, with XLR connections, using high-end industry standard Crystal Semiconductors AD/DA devices. The audio performance is exceptional and ADAT lightpipe or Fibre in/out, programmable routing, plus presets and 8 channel LED metering is provided as standard.

Dolby Surround Encoder/Decoder Plug-in

The plug-in is the result of collaboration between Dolby Labs and Soundscape Digital Technology and licenses Dolbys DSP code, developed for the Motorola 56301 DSP used in the mixtreme Mixer environment. The Dolby Surround Encoder/Decoder Plug-in which is available exclusively from Soundscape Digital Technologys International Distributors and Dealers includes a separate 4 channel to stereo encoder and a stereo to 4 channel decoder and includes elements for Surround channel strips and Surround Panners in the mixtreme mixer. Dolby Surround is a phase-matrix encode/decode process that makes it possible for regular stereo program sources to carry four channels of information. Originally developed as a sound-with-picture format, the channels are configured with three across the front (Left, Center, Right) and a fourth (Surround) reproduced by speakers to the sides and rear of the listening area. Because Dolby Surround soundtracks are specially encoded during production and then decoded on playback, producers can control the placement and movement of sounds in a way that creates a remarkably realistic listening experience. Dolby Surround soundtracks also create a wider, more enveloping soundfield even when played in normal stereo. With tens of millions of playback systems in homes worldwide and a multitude of encoded films and TV programs available to the consumer Dolby Surround has become the standard for high-quality surround audio.

Now Soundscape Digital Technology has created an unbeatable combination of hardware and mixing software for Video Editing Applications - mixtreme . The mixtreme Audio Card provides a massive 16 audio channels of 24 bit digital input and output and has powerful 24 bit customisable digital mixing and real-time optional audio effects plug-ins like Equalisation (EQ), Reverb, Dynamics control and Surround Sound Processing. With Multimedia drivers for Windows NT and Windows 95/98, mixtreme can be used with most Video Capture Cards and a wide range Video Editing systems. Powerful Motorola 56301 DSP (Digital Signal Processor) The mixtreme card is inserted into a spare for Mixing and effects PCI card slot in your PC and the mixing software is quick and easy to install. Two external professional Soundscape Audio Interfaces can be added, providing up to 16 channels of Audio in and out with high quality balanced XLR connectors. PCI BUS Alternatively you can connect the two TDIF connectors (Tascam Digital Interface - the standard 24 bit interface for the latest audio mixers and recorders) directly to a digital console or Tascam Wordclock/Superclock DA-88. There are other external converters or Video Sync In/Out available for ADAT users, unbalanced audio connections and fibre optic digital devices.

mixtreme has a powerful on-board Motorola DSP (Digital Signal Processor) instead of having to use the Pentium CPU in the PC for audio processing, so that it takes almost no power from your video application. You get the benefit of separate digital audio input/output channels for Surround Mixing, digital mixing and routing with total recall, and real time effects, all running simultaneously with your video editing software. External analogue or digital devices can be mixed with tracks from your video editing software by configuring a mixer that fits with exactly what you need. You can have one mixer for track laying, lay-offs from tape and recording. One for 5.1 Surround Mixing and one for lay-back to tape, all which can be loaded instantly!

mixtreme is friendly to the rest of your studio too. You can hook up your VTR inputs and outputs, Timecode DAT, NAGRA or Tascam DA88, using any number of Pre/Post sends and place additional channel strips in the mixer to mix the return signal. Every element in the mixer is a plug-in that you can place exactly where required, which means that you can record to disk with EQ, a compressor or other acoustic effect. Recording a voiceover through mixtreme with dynamics and EQ can help to give your productions a professional sound quality that normally requires time in a top audio studio. You can even use the mixtreme real-time effects to remove hum and noise from badly recorded audio clips or to decode audio recorded in M&S format into L/R stereo. All effects settings and the entire mixer configuration can be saved and loaded from a PC file, so you never need to lose that perfect mix you were working on yesterday!

The fully configurable Soundscape V2 Mixer comes bundled with the card and was originally designed for Soundscapes award winning SSHDR1-Plus Digital Audio Workstation. Released in 1993, this high end Audio Post System is used today by thousands of top sound designers and industry professionals in Music Soundtrack Recording, Dialogue Replacement, Foley and Dubbing. Right now you can have a 24 bit, 16 in/out, 16 bus virtual digital mixer at your fingertips running simultaneously with your video editing software on the same PC, with the additional advantage of optional high-end DSP effects plug-ins from some of the worlds leading names in audio. Effects like Surround Encoding & Decoding, Compressors, Expanders, Gates, Limiters, Delays, Chorus/Flangers, Reverbs and fully parametric Equalization are all available now. And there are many other plug-ins in development from the industrys top audio companies including:Noise Reduction, Spectral Enhancement, multi-effects and many others. The mixtreme mixer has a completely user definable channel structure and routing. You can easily create and save your own mixes (e.g. M&S Decoding) and the entire configuration of the mixer plus all parameter settings are stored in the mixer file, so it is truly total recall. Each channel can have any number of real time processes running (e.g. Equalisation, acoustic treatment, normalising etc.) limited only by the available processing power on the mixtreme card. Plug-in Effects
The Equalisation (EQ) Plug-in allows the editor to select a range of frequencies on an audio track i.e.Bass, Mid, Treble and boost them or reduce/cut them. For example high frequency camera noise on the audio tracks can be dramatically reduced or removed by selecting that range of high frequencies and cutting them. You can change the audio bandwidth to make it sound like youre listening to the radio or to simulate a telephone call, or create a rumbling bass on explosions or car engines. This feature is standard in the software.

The Audio Toolbox is an optional set of audio effects elements and includes a Chorus/Flanger, Digital Delay and a Dynamics Processor with Gate, Expander, Compressor and Limiter functions. The Chorus/Flanger can
produce anything from a slight thickening or phasing of a sound. Flanging is at the extreme end of the control range, with large pitch changes, delay variations and amazing stereo width and movement - great for Sound Design, alien voices etc..

TC Reverb
The superb TC Reverb Plug-in delivers high quality acoustic treatment exclusively for mixtreme users. The Plug-in features an intuitive user interface with a graphical approach to parameter control: graphs visualize the settings and make it much faster & easier to get the desired result.

TC Dynamizer
From the makers of the industry standard TC Finalizer studio mastering processor, comes an all new approach to setting broadcast levels. This plug-in enables you to increase the energy of the audio tracks without exceeding broadcast levels. Integrated multi-band expansion Compression and limiting Streamlined, highly graphical approach to dynamics processing All unnecessary guesswork taken out of setting broadcast levels Automatically processes the audio tracks substantially faster with desired results easier to achieve!

The Dynamics Processor consists of four main real time processors.

1. Noise Gate - Allows real

time gating of the signal to remove any low-level background noise on audio tracks and is useful for dialogue editing or ducking backgrounds.

The Reverb Module

from Wave Mechanics Inc. is a top quality Acoustic Treatment module which adds natural ambience or sparkling digital effects to your recorded audio. This Plug-in features over 60 presets from categories such as: Ambience Effects, Delays and other oddities, Gated Reverbs, Large Halls and other Large Spaces, Medium Rooms and Chambers, Plates and Small Room Reverbs.

2. Expander - This has similar operation to that of a noise gate, but has a ratio setting which determines the slope of the cut-off. Instead of total silence the level can smoothly increase to allow a gentle build into the new sound. This can be used for higher levels of background noise removal, such as tape hiss or Air Con noise etc. 3. Three Node Compressor - A compressor is very useful for
production sound recorded on a sound stage. The Actors voices can be compressed at a particular level, a door slamming in the background can have another higher setting to prevent loud bangs etc. on the dialogue tracks.

APHEX AURAL EXCITER TYPE III

Coming soon from Aphex Systems Ltd is the Aural Exciter Type 3 and Big Bottom Pro Plug-Ins exclusively for mixtreme. Since 1975, the Aural Exciter has improved thousands of recordings by bringing more clarity, detail, air and presence. Big Bottom works at the other end of the spectrum by adding low end presence and punch without adding peak level. A must have Plug-in for all mixtreme users.

4. Limiter - The Limiter makes sure that the audio signal never exceeds a given level, useful for optimizing broadcast levels during lay-back to tape.

The Delay Plug-in which is included in the Audio Toolbox, provides Long, Medium or Short delays or fading echo which sounds similar to the effect of shouting in a cave or in the mountains.

A must have Plug-in for all mixtreme users.
