KSPC’S CHIMNEY TO RISE 110 METERS HIGH INTO THE SKY

C ebu Power Plant’s tall chimney will soon rise into the sky as the

e
astounding erection of this important feature of the project has already
commenced.

Concrete pouring work has started and will continue until the height of 110
meters from the ground of the structure is achieved. The slip-forming
equipment used was imported from Sweden. The technology was introduced in
the country by a Hungarian. This is now being enjoyed by both the Filipinos
and the Korean nationals who are implementing the construction work.

M eanwhile, the rate of concrete casting is 600 mm high every 4 hours.

C
The cement to be poured is being monitored and the temperature is being

controlled in order to stabilize the concrete before the forms slip up to the next

elevation. The rebar preparation and installation are done in advance so that

they will not be caught up by the advancing pouring of concrete.

The chimney has strong foundation that can withstand the forces of nature

and carry the load of the structure itself. The foundation alone can consume

770 cubic meters of ready mix concrete with strength of 30 megapascals

reinforced by 231 tons of rebar. Once completed, the new skyscraper, which

has a fascinating dome figure on its top, will be a new landmark in Naga, Cebu.

T he MOO defines how the MMT should operate with regards to monitoring

h
activities, rules and regulations, trainings, sampling methods, and all other

areas of concern. With the development of this manual, the different activities

of the group can be done smoothly and in line with their goals.

There was a site visit in the afternoon to provide a visual compliment of the

project status. The whole event created a benchmark for the committee’s goals

in formulating the yearly work and financial plan. Furthermore, this marked

the beginning of the group’s adherence to their Mission and Vision for the year

2009: “Our Environment, Our People, Our Concern.”
