Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina

Dear Eastminster Family, Last week I shared a broad update on Vision 2020. This week I want to zero in and bring you up to speed on our sanctuary renovation. The Session has approved the Sanctuary Renovation Committees recommendation that Mashburn Construction be engaged to work with Quakenbush Architects in developing detailed construction drawings. Their conversations will include exploring the possibility of staging some of the work in a way that will minimize our time out of the sanctuary. At this time, it appears we will be able to use the sanctuary through March, and at some point after that, we will hold worship in the gym for a few months. As with any construction project, especially one related to a building the age of the sanctuary, there are a thousand considerations and details that have to be examined before firm dates can be determined. The good news is that, in time, we will enjoy better accessibility for those with mobility challenges, improved heating and air conditioning, the addition of a mens rest room, a covered drop-off at the Nelle Gunter room, and an enhanced chancel area. Eastminster is blessed with remarkable facilities for ministry and mission. With this renovation, we will be even better suited to offer a welcoming space for worshipping our Lord. To God be the glory,

Brad

Brad Sherrills fourth biblical performance is based on the epic story of Gods deliverance found in Exodus. This performance draws largely from the books of Exodus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, took almost a year to create, encompassing as much of the essential narrative and vital speeches as could be experienced by audiences in this 95 minute performance. The live performance and multimedia presentation will come together for one extraordinary evening of theatre. Eastminster will host Brad Sherrill on Sunday, November 10 at 6:00 p.m. and again on Monday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. The event is free, but please sign up for tickets as there is limited seating. Tickets may be obtained from Julie McDaniel in the church office (jmcdaniel@eastminsterpres.org). All middle and senior high-aged students and their parents are encouraged to join us on Saturday, October 26, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for a skeet shoot! This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and students to spend time together. We aregoing to Live Oaks Sportsmans Club in Swansea, SC. There will be an introduction and presentation about firearm safety and shooting with a move to a 12-station sporting clay course. Lunch will be served in a covered pavilion with a short devotion at the conclusion of our time. If you have questions or would like to participate, email Tricia (tmccormick@eastminsterpres.org) or call 256-1654. Please join us for Breakfast in the Breezeway on Sunday, October 20, from 8:30 a.m. 8:55 a.m. Breakfast finger foods, as well as coffee and juice, will be served in the breezeway as we enjoy a brief time of fellowship together prior to the 9:00 a.m. worship service. Hosted by the Fellowship Committee. Calling all men! Youre always welcome to join us at 7:00 a.m. each Monday morning (excluding holidays) as we gather in Thompson Hall for a full breakfast, for an enriching, enlightening Bible study (currently the book of Acts), for great fellowship, and for prayer. We conclude at 8:00 a.m., whether our teacher-of-the-day is finished or not, so that everyone can get on to the office or the shop or the golf course. No reservations needed. We hope to see you! Does the church have your e-mail address? If not, we cannot share our daily devotionals from Exodus with you. Also, did you know that Exodus classes being taught by Mark Durrett can be viewed on line? Even if you cannot attend the class, you can watch the lesson on your computer or tablet on YouTube. Go to www.eastminsterpres.org and follow the link on the front page. The CLC is always in need of smiling faces to represent Eastminster and help our many visitors to that area of the building. If you would like to volunteer to welcome guests, give directions and staff the front desk in the Christian Life Center, please contact bketchin@ eastminsterpres.org or 256-1654. Sixteen adults left Sunday morning for New Jersey where they will spend a week doing Hurricane Sandy relief work. The group will return on Saturday, October 5. Please pray for travel mercies, and a rewarding experience while they are helping those in need.

Update for October 6, 2013

Eastmister member Dottie Pratt is the speaker for the October Savvy Seniors meeting. She will speak on the Old Order Amish from her year-long experiences with the Amish and a book she has written. Pratt explores the history of the ElkhartLaGrange, Indiana, Amish settlement from 1841 to 1975. Most often her actual focus is the portion of that settlement in LaGrange Countys Newberry Township, and today identified with the townships popular tourist destination, the village of Shipshewana. Stay tuned for all the details. Go Tell It on the Mountain The Story Behind the Story is the theme this year. Our speaker is Dr. Robert Fuller, pastor and head of staff at Fairview Presbyterian Church in North Augusta. We are once again at Blue Ridge Assembly, December 6 through December 8, and the retreat will spotlight Bobs insights (along with his guitar skills), bring us a return of our own terrific Appalachian Band, grant us incredible opportunities for fellowship, and help prepare all of us for Advent. Grab a brochure when you are at the church and sign up!
