Louis Vuitton-Moet Hennessy (LVMH) is the worlds leading luxury products group with more than 35000 people employed around the world. Some of the product categories that the group deals in are perfumes, wines, duty free shops etc., with some well-known brands like Givenchy and Christian Dior in its portfolio. The groups long-term strategy is to consolidate its position as a global luxury goods retailer and further expand its global presence. Shell scripts were written to automate the reports generated by Information Advantage. Macros written in Excel were used to customize the reports generated by Information Advantage. As value addition to the client, Cognizant was also responsible for the Database Administration in the following regions: North America, Hong Kong, Japan, Hawaii, Taiwan, Singapore and Oceania.

Client Situation
LVMH is presently using DFactS, a tool, which extracts data from source systems and stores then into a data warehouse. Merchandise common system (MCS) supported on AS400 is their data source. The tool also has an analysis and reporting module, which enables them to obtain information from data, which are momentous to them from their business perspective. Data stored in the warehouse are primarily gathered from duty free shops operated by LVMH, most of these are from businesses on land. With the expansion of their business from land to ship voyages, LVMH purported to deploy a system by incorporating necessary changes in their existing system so as to bring their new venture aboard their existing warehouse.

Client Benefits A system, which can accommodate data hived from duty free outlets on ship voyages with the existing system and convert them to business critical information. Automation of reports generated by Information Advantage facilitated in streamlining the entire process by restricting human intervention. Business leads were able to view information for land and sea operations, facilitating faster decision making. Cognizants competence in Data Warehousing technology and expertise in Unix environments, Red Brick and Information Advantage.

To effectively bring about changes in the existing system, Cognizant did a comprehensive study of their dimensional model. Their data model was changed so as to integrate the duty free shopping data garnered on ship voyages to the existing warehouse.
