October Outlook
With last weeks rains there is no question that fall is finally upon us. This is great for anglers as the cooler temperatures will get fish more active and the rain will bring more anadrimous fish into our river systems. October is hands down our favorite time of year to fish here at Orvis Bellevue. Trout-The Yakima will be fishing extraordinarily well this month. Check out our Yakima River Forecast for more info on this fishery. The Forks of the Snoqualamie, Forks of the Skykomish, and Skykomish tributaries will all fish very well this month. A standard dry/dropper setup is all you need for all day success on these streams. Searun cutthroat fishing in the rivers will also be very good this month especially in the North Sound Rivers. The Skykomish, Snoqualamie, Skagit, Stilly, and Cowlitz are all great places to target these fish. Try throwing traditional reverse spiders, small streamer patterns, and even dry flies to catch these ferocious fish. The states stillwater fishing will really pick up this month as the water temperatures cool and bring fish shallow. Expect to see hatches of midges and callibaetis at many of your favorite lakes. Anglers fishing lakes that have brown trout will find these fish in pre-spawn mode and very aggressive, try pulling big streamers near spawning staging areas. However, never target fish on Redds and let them go about their business making sweet fishy love. Steelhead-Fall is definitely the best time of year to catch steelhead here in the Pacific Northwest. Anglers will see a great mix of summer and even early winter fish entering the river systems. Saltwater-Saltwater fishing will remain great for searun cutthroat in the South Sound and begin to taper off for Coho as the rains push these fish up into the rivers. When targeting searun cutties, throw small baitfish imitations on an intermediate line. Come in the shop and check out our great selection of Puget Sound flies. Toward the end of the month we will see a few chum moving into the river estuaries but fishing for chum wont start being really productive until mid November.

Years in the salt chasing baitfish that are very flashy have predisposed Coho Salmon to try and eat anything that has a lot of shine. This is why conventional anglers do so well fishing spoons and inline spinners. Fly anglers can trigger the Cohos natural instinct to eat with the Flash Fly. This is a very simple pattern to tie and can be used to catch fish in the salt and in the rivers. Try tying a few of these up in a variety of colors and try them on your next outing, were sure you will like the results.

El Pescador Lodge 2012 Lodge of the Year
February 16-22nd 2014 Includes: 6 nights lodging, 5 days guided fishing, Free H2 rod!!!, 15% Discount Card, All Meals, Local Alcohol This part of Belize is one of the best places to get a saltwater Grand Slam: bonefish; permit; and tarpon in one day. The flats are extensive and the lodge is well located so you dont have to travel far to be on the fish, although they go on endlessly north to the border with Mexico. El Pescador caters to fly-fishers, but there are some great non-angling activities available as well. Theres excellent snorkeling, an extensive barrier reef, a dive shop and the option to take excursions to Maya ruins on the mainland. Its a good place for your first saltwater trip and theres an onsite coach to help you master sight casting on the flats. The large numbers of bonefish mean your chances of success are excellent, and light tackle gear is available.
