Super Cooler

The cooler described in this article uses home made articles which may be available
around the house or may be available at the local Scrap collector/seller.

Required material: Card Board, Glue (specially rubber solution), Paper to bind, Masking
tape, flexible tube (used in drainage pipes:-sink etc). and a broken down/bad hair
blower/dryer (the motor and turbine like fan should be in working condition).

Note: the flow of air in a hair blower/dryer is very strong, it is advisable to use this kind
of blower only on electronic equipments that become very hot and need constant cooling,
E.g: TV, Computer CRT Monitor, CPU, power supplies, Inverters etc.

First we need to cut the card board in 8 pieces (one similar to the other) as shown in Fig.1
below. And bend each sheet as shown in Fig.2. also 2 pieces of the top hood for the
Funnel as shown in Fig.3.

These, should be bound together with paper and/or masking tape to make a funnel, like
shown in Fig.4 below.

Next would be connecting the flexible pipes between the 2 funnels. Please check picture
below for details. For E.g. I have used this Blower as a CPU cooler in a computer in the
Diagram below.
Now for the Final Assembly, the Fan and motor from the broken Hair blower/dryer has to
be assembled in the funnel unit in such a way that it takes in air and pushes it down on
the CPU, thus assisting the CPU fan to keep the heatSink at a lower temperature.

The assembly of the motor and fan would be slightly tricky, but in my case I have
mounted the motor on a dis-assembled chasis, of a chasis fan used in a computer. This
provides excellent positioning, and due to the square dimensions of the funnel, it fits in
just fine too.

A filter made of such a cloth that is thick enough to trap dust and thin enough to allow
enough air can also be placed on the outside of the CPU case, in front of the fan that
would be pulling in cool air from the outside and blow it on the CPU, as this filter would
be required to be cleant more often.

Try this DIY Super Cooler at home and I am sure that it can come to many uses, specially
for cooling CRT monitors, Computer CPU’s etc.
