Terms and conditions for students of RIIHL

1. Your use of this and other connected websites of the Resilience International
Institute of Higher learning is subject to the terms and conditions as set out below,
including, but not limited to the documents that are referred to in some of the
clauses.

2. You should read the terms and conditions carefully before you access any website
or participate in any chatroom, newsgroup, bulletin board, mailing list, transaction
or other on-line forum of RIIHL.

3. By using these websites, you acknowledge that you have read these terms and
conditions and agree to be bound by and comply with them.

4. You may download, view and print content from the RIIHL websites for private
study and lawful purposes only. You undertake not to share the material provided
for your academic purposes.

5. All the work, trademarks and databases on this website, including but not limited
to, software, text, graphics, icons, hyperlinks and designs are proprietary of or
licensed to RIIHL and as such are protected from infringement by local and
international legislation and treaties. Subject to the rights afforded to you herein,
all other rights to all intellectual property on this site are expressly reserved.

6. When you visit the RIIHL website and during that visit complete a web form to
request information or when you send an e-mail to RIIHL, and do not explicitly

are encouraged to report any possible malfunctions and errors.

are used at own risk. These sites have not been compiled or supplied to meet the

14. All items purchased from RIIHL, including study material, are made pursuant to
agreements with shipping, delivery or transmission agents and risk of loss pass
from RIIHL to such agents upon delivery of any item to such carrier.

15. Neither RIIHL nor any of its agents or representatives shall be liable for any
damage, loss or liability of whatsoever nature arising from the use or inability to
use any product sold on this website.

16. RIIHL does not screen or edit all the content, including postings of any kind, on
the various RIIHL sites and does not accept any liability for illegal, defamatory or
obscene content. You are encouraged to use the online feedback form to notify
RIIHL of any content that may be offensive or illegal.

20. The fees, relevant levies and other costs for study units (courses, modules and
programmes) and prices, taxes and shipping costs for other products of RIIHL
may be stated on various web pages on the RIIHL sites or communicated to you
directly. These amounts are subject to change.

21. Import duties may be payable by recipients of goods in foreign countries. RIIHL
does not have knowledge of and therefore does not provide information on such
levies. Such payments are the sole responsibility of the students.

22. The turnaround time for admission to and registration for postgraduate studies is
not guaranteed due to the complexities of the admissions process, including the
verification of credentials.

23. The delivery times for study material, library material and other auxiliary goods
will be effected within 30 days after receipt of an application, request or order,
subject to seasonal peaks and/or delays at customs.

24. Only requests for credit card payments may be accepted via the RIIHL websites.
These requests are processed offline at a later stage.

25. Various other offline payment options, such as direct bank deposits and cheque
payments, are available to prospective students and the buyers of other products.

26. There are no refunds on course fees that have been made. If a student encounters a
difficulty to complete the course of study or degree on time he or she may apply
for an extension which will amount to a maximum of four years from date of
registration. Thereafter the count will not remain active.

27. The terms of agreement will apply for the period that a person is a registered
student at RIIHL or until other transactions, such as the purchasing or borrowing
of goods from RIIHL, has been concluded according to the terms that apply to
such transactions.

28. Higher studies of RIIHL is accredited by the Open International University which
is a network of over 102 institutions worldwide.

29. These Terms and Conditions of Use constitute the entire agreement between
RIIHL and you, the user of this web site. Any failure by RIIHL to exercise or
enforce any right or provision of these Terms and Conditions of Use shall in no
way constitute a waiver of such right or provision.
30. In the event that any term or condition of the use of this website is not fully
enforceable or valid for any reason, such term(s) or condition(s) shall be severable
from the remaining terms and conditions. The remaining terms and conditions
shall not be affected by such unenforceability or invalidity and shall remain
enforceable and applicable.

31. This site is hosted, controlled and operated from the Netherlands and therefore
governed by Law of the Netherlands, subject to the terms of Public International
Law.

voluntarily, e.g. when they wish to register for studies at the Institute, when they
register to use the online services or when they request information and wish to
receive such information via e-mail.

34. In some cases non-personal information, such as the user’s domain and IP-address
is stored on the user’s computer as a cookie-file and in a statistics file on the web
sever. This information is used to improve the service offered to users.

35. The collected personal information is stored in databases to which access is


strictly controlled and only staff, who in the course of their duties need to have
access to such information.

user’s permission or due process.

WHAT TYPE OF EDUCATION CAN YOU EXPECT AT OPEN


INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY?

It is pertinent to ask the question what is the true purpose of University education that we
provide? Some may think it is to simply study and memorize certain books and gain the
knowledge to pass certain examinations. Some may think it is to get an impressive certificate
or a license to practice . However, a university education goes beyond that. It is more than
memorizing books and facts. It is more than a framed certificate on a wall that can be used to
impress future employers or clients. We all have identities away from our careers. If the
objective of a university education is more than gaining the knowledge necessary to pass tests
and get a degree, what is the true purpose of a university education?

At Open International University we believe that you already possess a large number of skills
and competencies gained in different pursuits , and the deeper studies you undertake with us
will now develop a habit of mind that will last through a lifetime. We strongly encourage our
students to appreciate that gaining knowledge is in a way beneficial in itself ,giving its own
reward and not to be focused only what you are planning to do one day in the future. You will
continue to amass knowledge and learning is a lifetime endeavor that never ends. We believe
you need time to reflect on what you learn because knowledge can be acquired but wisdom
lingers!

Our education will also help you to honestly face complex issues bombarding mankind from
diverse quarters. You will develop a mind of your own and be a “ thinking” professional with a
contribution of your own on vital issues, yet maintain honesty and ethics upholding the rights
of others. We are helping develop value-centric professionals in life so that it would be for the
greater benefit of mankind.

We also believe that a true University should incorporate many diverse branches of knowledge
and it has been our endeavor to always provide you with much opportunity to develop yourself
in your own field of interest. From humble beginnings in the field of complementary medicines,
today we have diversified to many branches, also helping you look into the “unity in diversity”
which is the work of a real university.

We also believe that we should learn to operate with both head and heart to grapple with
issues facing us and a focus only on bookish excellence and head knowledge is doomed to
failure. The point of a university education is not academics. It is about the future of the whole
person. The education gained our university allows people to really think. It is about the
quality of the mind and what you do with what you have. Our education brings the mind into
form. The mind can be a very beautiful thing that our education can really help develop. The
lack of a beautiful mind is indeed a misfortune!!
