Mathematics

Lesson Plan: 10/7/2013

Teacher: Caroline Kennedy Objective: Get a better understanding of addition and subtraction by playing BINGO Time: 35 minutes Materials: BINGO board, addition and subtraction problems and M&Ms as markers Procedure: 1:001:05 Split the class into two different groups. One group: addition and Second group: subtraction 1:051:15 Each group will have a board game of addition or subtraction BINGO and will play with the other students in their group. An adult will read a math problem and a color, the students will then have to see if they have the answer to that problem under the color that was called. Example: the adult says 5+1 or 5-1 under the yellow, so the student looks for the number 6 or 4 (either if they have the addition or subtraction BINGO board) and look for the answer under the yellow category. 1:151:25 After fifteen minutes is up, the two groups will switch and whoever played the addition game will now play the subtraction game and whoever played the subtraction game will now play the addition game of BINGO. 1:251:35 After the class had the opportunity to play the addition and subtraction BINGO game, they will take a 5 question quiz about addition and subtraction to see how they have comprehended the math during the game of BINGO. Homework: Create a worksheet with 5 addition and 5 subtraction problems and bring it to class the next day for one of your classmates to complete
