Question 4. Create another visual presentation (it can be graph/chart/ power


point/table etc) elaborating techniques you would use to motivate your trainees. Include the techniques you would prefer to use and mention the benefits of using it.

Answer: The success of trainer depends on the ability to motivate the trainees. It

may sound simplistic, but one way to motivate trainees is to create a training environment that is conducive to learning. It improves trainees attitude, confidence and performance. A trainer is just like a ring master whose destiny lies in the hands of trainees (See the picture below). By inducing positive reinforcement he can motivate a person in such a way that even a small kid can perform a difficult task of doing push up with single hand. This is the essence of motivational medicine injected to trainees.

I would like to use the following techniques for motivating my trainees -

An ice breaker is an activity, game, or event that is used to welcome and warm up the conversation among participants in a training class. It helps you to be interesting in your lesson presentation. Eg. Good sayings are like pearls

An effective ice breaker will warm up the conversation in your training class or meeting, reinforce the topic of the session, and ensure that participants enjoy their interaction and the session. When participants dont know each other, the ice breaker will help them introduce themselves to the other participants. It helps in arouse and maintain interest of the trainees. An inspirational quote is to speech what salt is to food and hence it will motivate your trainees.

Explain the objective

Show them the need for the lesson. Do not assume that trainees recognize the lessons importance. If you want trainees to participate actively in the training process, you need to reward them for learning by smiles, positive body language, and words of encouragement.
Dont be rigid. Try Empathy i.e. putting yourself in other shoes will help you to keep pace with them. Focus on two way communication instead of boring one sided lecture delivery. Keep on taking feedback in the mid of the session.

This will help to show the benefit of the lesson to the trainees needs.So, they will feel motivated to listen to the entire session.

Use positive reinforcement

Positive Reinforcement are powerful psychological tools and they make trainees feel good about learning. Use them generously. Words like Good, Bravo, Fantastic, Hats Off will motivate the trainees.

Be Flexible

Listening to trainees need and accommodating their thoughts with the training objective will be an effective motivational tool. This will help the trainer to bridge the gap between the trainer trainee relationships. While taking feedback gradually will make the session effective and hence increases the efficiency of the trainer.

Appreciate heartily where a trainee does a good job. Avoid credit I, blame You attitude.
Role Play help participants to share experience of a real life situations.

It helps the trainee to take decision in various versatile situations which in turn motivates them for their vertical growth.

Positive Ending Note

Emotional reactions to trainees anger frighten them. This distracts them from the subject being taught. Games and exercises will bridge the theory practice gap and boost the morale of trainee. This will help to maintain the repo with trainee and finding the solution to the grass root problem. It is rightly said the End is Well, All is Well. End the session with group song, motivational video clip.

Emotional outbursts interfere with learning and are demotivating. Also avoid giving examples on caste , creed and religion.

Trainees can easily gain the learning from games rather than from theory and will remember it for life long. Participants will gain confidence on the trainer and it will help them to realize that the trainer is working for their whole sole benefit only. This will generate the momentum and trainees will feel motivated.

Apart from the above tactics here are some tips for trainers to maintain the trainees motivation

Provide necessary facilities/resources Give Responsibilities to trainees. Recognize individual skill and promote them. Last but not least, give the correct guidance on trainees professional and personal problem.

So, by applying the above strategies one can easily maintain the trainees motivational level.
