School Crossing Supervisor Band 1 Civic Amenity School Crossing Co-ordinator Manager Traffic and Parking July 2007

POSITION OBJECTIVE: To assist in providing a safe effective means of school aged children and other pedestrians to cross the road at established school crossings, pedestrian and traffic lights. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS To be correctly attired and equipped whilst performing the duties of a School Crossing Supervisor. To supervise children, other pedestrians and vehicles at the school crossing, pedestrian crossing and traffic lights. Ensure that the flags are displayed correctly whilst performing duties. Maintain a high level of awareness. Ensure that traffic flow is not unduly disrupted by pedestrians crossing the road. Ensure that all vehicles are stationary before allowing pedestrians access to the crossing. Ensure that all pedestrians have crossed the roadway before vacating the crossing. Where required, report all incidents and breaches of the Road Rules Victoria. To the School Crossing Co-ordinator.

ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Reports To: Position deals With: School Crossing Co-ordinator Internal Civic Amenity team members External General Public (parents and children) School Principals School staff

ACCOUNTABILITY AND EXTENT OF AUTHORITY This position is accountable to the School Crossing Co-ordinator for providing safe crossings for pedestrians.

JUDGEMENT AND DECISION MAKING The position is clearly defined with standard instruction.


MANAGEMENT SKILLS The ability to work with out supervision The ability to supervise pedestrians correctly and safely over school crossings

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS A friendly, helpful and courteous communication style with the public at all times



Previous school crossing experience an advantage The ability to travel with in the city of Glen Eira to perform duties To be physically fit ,alert and posses the physical ability to react in an emergency situation The ability to stand and walk for up to one and half hours per day, five days per week Minimum vision at the standard required for a drivers licence (natural or corrective) Must maintain a satisfactory police check Must maintain a current working with children check

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Possess physical ability to perform duties Must possess adequate English communication skills Ability to demonstrate commitment and punctuality Satisfy a Medical practitioner as to being medically fit to perform the duties Must maintain a satisfactory police check Must maintain a current working with children check Be prepared to attend annually a paid inservice training day As required attend a sight and hearing test.
