McKoy English II 1st Block September 4, 2013 Exploratory Essay She was young, only 17, she thought and knew she was not ready for a responsibility such as this. She was pregnant and did not know what to do; she thought the only other choice she had to turn to was, abortion. She, is my sister Whitni. Whitni was a troubled child in the streets, doing whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted. When she found out she was pregnant, she was worried about not being able to do what she been doing most her life and thats party. My mom is totally against abortions and if my sister were to get one then my mom would not speak to her at all anymore. My mom, my sister and I, convinced Whitni to keep the baby because we thought, what good would having an abortion do? Whitni decided to go on with the pregnancy and she now has a healthy little boy and I have a cute little nephew, who turns 1 on September 18. Abortions are wrong and they can end for the better. An abortion is when you kill a child before its birth. Each year, 1.4 million women decide to make the decision to abort their baby and 89% of them, go through with it before their 12th week of gestation. It takes 17 days before a babys heartbeat can be detected, so considering abortion is not just killing the unborn but murdering a baby who just began the process of living. Abortion had been around for as long as you can think of but its legalization came about in 1973.

In 1973, the Roe vs. Wade case, made it possible for women in the United States to get safe and legal abortions only for American women. Not all states allow abortion and if they did, it was only for specific determined reasons. Most abortions performed in the United States are usually performed on healthy women. The United States is 1 out of 4 countries, which do perform abortions. The other 3 countries that perform abortions legally are Canada, China and North Korea. Since the legalization of abortions in 1973, over 4 million unborn children are killed; that is 1 baby every second. People do have the freedom and personal choice to have an abortion. What people fail to realize is that if you have an abortion, just like everything else; it has a consequence. Compared to other medical procedures, the abortion industry is largely unregulated. There is not any exact statistics on the number of women who have die from botched procedures but LifeDynamics.com, created a list of 347 women killed by legal abortions, since 1973, the year it was legalized. Having an abortion increases your chances of getting breast cancer 50% by as opposed to women who have not had abortions. So there are side effects to this procedure and they are critical. The reason why women get abortions varies. The reasons most frequently stated of why these women have chosen to get an abortion were that having a child would interfere with their education, work, and ability to care for dependents. Statistics also state that 73 % of women said they could not afford a baby now, 48% said they did not want to be a single mother or were having relationship problems. Nearly 4 out of 10 women said they were done with having children and 1 out of 3 was not ready for a child. Less than 1% of women said that their parents or their partner wanted them to get an abortion. Of all the reasons stated for an abortion, none are right, its still wrong doing. If you are not ready for a child, abortion is not the answer but

adoption is always an option. Bless a child with the gift of life and bless a couple with the gift of allowing them to become parents. Some people may argue and say they were raped and they do not want to carry that memory with them, well if you think about it, being raped overall with a baby or not; you are still going to have that memory. Why should an innocent child be killed when it did not do anything wrong, and did not even ask to come into the world. I find abortion a very debatable subject and I would love to do more research on abortions to persuade people that in my opinion are a bad and serious issue. I want people to realize that, no matter what situation or circumstance, abortion should not be the answer. Even though people have different situations, the end result should be the same, let the baby live. Inducing drugs, rape, incest and etc., is NOT an excuse to have an abortion. If you get an abortion, you are, in my opinion, an irresponsible murderer because there are lots of other alternatives to turn to, other than not giving the baby a chance at all. Babies do not ask to be made and if you are faced with a situation, stick it through it is life and help to save one baby at a time.
