(Information Manual)
Its annual youth gathering activity started with the 2012 work program with the Yeoju cultural trip. To keep the momentum of the previous program, ASEAN-Korea Youth Workshop 2013 is designed to be a forum where, apart from strengthening their relationship and expanding the network, the ASEAN and Korea youth can gain an insight on vital issues of the world that might, unavoidably, have an impact, and many of whom might play a key role on issues in their respective countries in the future.
Lowcarbon development and green growth, green economy in sustainable development Sustainable development has become the overarching goal of the international community. Despite the efforts of many governments around the world to implement sustainable development strategies recommended by UN Agencies concerned, there are still continuing concerns over economic development in many countries which are in danger of transgressing ecological limits. With governments today seeking effective ways to lead their nations out of these related crises whilst also taking into account these ecological limits, green economy (in its various forms) has been proposed as a means for catalysing renewed national policy development and international cooperation and support for sustainable development. The concept has received significant international attention over the past few years. Koreas role in the green growth Despite the growing international interest in green economy, there is a lack of an internationally agreed definition or universal principles for green economy (such as green growth, low carbon development, sustainable economy, steady state economy etc.), and a lack of clarity around what green economy policy measures encompass and how they integrate with national priorities and objectives relating to economic growth, poverty eradication, as well as sustainable development. The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) has been a world leader in this field. KOICA also plays an important role in helping ASEAN member countries develop in a greener way as well as problems with environment degradation. The youth can gain an insight of green growth and learn what GGGI and KOICA has contributed to their countries. What is needed in the near future: Green Lifestyle The situation and the future path emphasize the need to change the way societies produce and consume, and called for programs for sustainable consumption and production. There is an urgent need to promote social and economic development within the carrying capacity of the environment, de link economic growth and environmental degradation through improving efficiency and sustainability in the use of resources and production processes, and reduce resource degradation, pollution and waste. Therefore Green Lifestyle, such as the 4 Rs, should be a way of lif e of all, in particular the young generation of the world. In a wider context, green lifestyle encompasses establishing social infrastructure to reduce GHG, facilitating social system transition toward low-carbon green growth, establishing foundation for the public practice of green consumption and green living culture and global green technology networking and cooperation.
