AT END OF PACK
Application form (for Hackney residents only)
Supplementary Information Form for all applicants
The information in this pack is correct on October 2013 and may change in the future.
The advice given is for information only and not legal advice. For all further information consult the
Hackney Legal Trust Secondary School Admissions Brochure or call the Hackney Learning Trust
Admissions Team on 020 8820 7501.
This Information Pack is a collaborative effort and thanks to all involved.
The YHS Forum is independent from Yesodey Hatorah Senior Girls School and is not associated with
the School.
1.
Q. I would like to apply for my daughter to join Yesodey Hatorah Senior Girls
School (the School) but she does not attend Yesodey Hatorah Primary School.
Can the School refuse my daughter a place because of the primary school she
currently or has previously attended?
A. No. It is against the law for the School to favour applicants who attended an
independent fee-paying primary school. Yesodey Hatorah Primary School is an
independent fee-paying school and girls from that school may not be given any
advantage in the admissions process.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Q. How can I find out about the grades achieved by the School in recent years?
A. The exam results of the School and lots of other information can be found on the
Schools page on the Department for Education website.
6.
Q. Has the School been inspected by Ofsted and where can I see its reports?
A. The School last had a full inspection in 2006 and an interim inspection in 2010.
The full reports can be found on the Ofsted website here.
7.
8.
9.
Q. Must the parents or our daughter meet the Head Teacher, the Principal or
anyone else from the School before or during any stage of the application
process?
A. No. It is against the law for the School to require an interview with either
prospective pupils or their parents or the child in the course of the admissions
process.
10. Q. May the School refuse my daughter a place because she did not achieve good
grades in primary school?
A. No. The School does not select according to ability.
11. Q. My daughter is disabled/has special needs. Is that a valid reason for refusing
her a place?
A. No. It is against the law for the School to discriminate on grounds of disability or
special needs. There is a separate process for children with a Statement of Special
Educational Needs. This is set out at page 14 of the admissions brochure.
12. Q. What are the criteria for being accepted to the School?
A. The School stipulates that all pupils must abide by the principles and ethics of the
Charedi community. The Schools definition of Charedi and its general
admissions policy* can be found here.
13. Q. I am of chasidish / litvish / sefardi / yekish origin. Is this a reason for the
School to refuse my daughter a place?
A. It is against the law for the school to discriminate on grounds of race, religion or
belief (subject to the schools religious ethos). Decisions on admissions must also be
fair and objective.
21. Q. I have read the form and I do not conform to some points on the Schools
ethos. However, I think this is unfair because there are people I know who
have daughters at the school and who also do not fully conform. What can I
do about it?
A. Faith based criteria (which is what the Supplementary Information Form seeks to
apply) must be fair, easy to understand and fairly applied. If your daughter is
refused a place and you feel you have been unfairly treated you can appeal.
22. Q. I have recently moved to London and no one really knows me here / my family
does not live in the Stamford Hill area and I do not know members of the
Rabbinate. Can I still apply?
A. The law requires admission procedures to be fair. You should contact a rov or
dayan who knows your family and ask them to write a letter for you or to contact a
member of the Rabbinate to provide a reference on your behalf.
23. Q. Where do I send the completed Supplementary Information Form?
A. The completed Supplementary Information Form is sent to the School, see details
below. NOTE: ONLY THE SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION FORM IS
SENT TO THE SCHOOL. IF THE PAPER APPLICATION FORM IS USED IT
MUST BE SENT TO YOUR HOME LOCAL AUTHORITYS SCHOOL
ADMISSION TEAM.
24. Q. When is the deadline for returning the Supplementary Information Form to
the School?
A. 31 October 2013. It is very important that you contact the UOHC about the
Supplementary Information Form as soon as possible.
25. Q. I do not live in Hackney. Does that put me at a disadvantage?
A. The School may not discriminate because you live in another borough. If not
applying online, you must apply through your home local authority who will
forward your application to Hackney Learning Trust. See the contact sheet for
details of some neighbouring local authorities.
26. Q. Is the distance that I live from the School relevant to the admissions process?
A. Generally no. However, if the School is oversubscribed (see below) and after
having prioritised applicants under the oversubscription criteria there still remain
insufficient places then priority will be given to the applicant living closest to the
School.
27. Q. I applied just before the deadline. Will parents who applied before me have
priority?
A. No. A child may not be given priority because their application was later than
others so long as the application was submitted before the deadline.
GOOD LUCK!

GUIDANCE NOTES FOR PARENTS WHO WISH TO COMPLETE THE ATTACHED FORM
PUPILS TRANSFER FROM PRIMARY TO SECONDARY SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER 2014
This form should not be completed in respect of a child who has a Statement of Special Educational Needs
All Hackney residents must complete this form. The national closing date is 31 October 2013, we would prefer all
th
completed forms returned to Hackney Learning Trust by 25 October 2013.
Hackney Learning Trust will be operating an Equal Preference system in accordance with the Pan-London Admissions
System, The Pan - London Schools Admissions System is used by all 33 London boroughs together with neighbouring
Counties.
All your preferences will get considered at the same time, regardless of its rank and whether the school is in another local
authority.
Section 1 Childs Details
All sections must be completed.
Section 2 Parents/Carers Details
Please ensure that the names of all responsible adults/carers are recorded on the form for the secondary school to
approach. Please note that when parents live separately, the application must be based on one address where the child
normally lives between Monday and Friday and where the child benefit is received. You should provide a letter of
explanation as to the living/care arrangements of your child if the address is different to the address that is normally used.
Hackney Learning Trust will withdraw offers of a place if it has been proven that false or misleading information has been
provided.
Section 3 Secondary School Preferences
You are entitled to name up to six secondary schools anywhere in London as your expressed preferences on this form
(except for private fee paying schools). Please ensure that you complete all the boxes that are applicable to each
preference.
Sibling Connection - It is important that you state if your child already has a brother or sister including step siblings,
(they must be living in the same household/ address between Monday to Friday) attending the preference school, as this
can give your child priority for admission.
Medical/Social reasons - Special consideration can be given to children who have a particular medical or social need.
This will need to be demonstrated by providing professionally supported documentation, and explains why this means
your child can only attend a particular school. These documents should be attached to this form or sent to us by Monday
6th January 2014.
Children of staff working at a school Some schools, as part of their criteria give priority to children of staff working in
their school. You will need to provide the member of staff details (who is the parent of the child) on the form in order to be
considered under this priority.
If applying to Cardinal Pole Catholic, Lubavitch Girls Senior Girls Jewish, The Urswick CE, Our Ladys Covent Catholic
and Yesodey Hatorah Girls Jewish Schools you must obtain a supplementary form for religious commitment. The
supplementary form must be completed by the Priest/Vicar/Pastor/Rabbi and is available directly from either Hackney
Learning Trust or the secondary schools. Completed supplementary forms must be sent directly to the school(s)
concerned.
Section 4 Other information
Please give reasons for preferences
Please write a supporting statement if you are considering to apply for medical/social priority and include any relevant
documents. Please note not all schools have this criterion.
Section 5 Children in Care/Subject to a Child Protection
If you are a Foster Carer, looking after a child who is in public care, this must be indicated on the form. Children in this
category will be given priority of admission to the community schools in Hackney in accordance with the criteria for
admission. If previously looked after proof of this must be supplied.
