"Green economics" is loosely defined as any theory of economics by which an economy is considered to be component of the ecosystem in which it resides. Green economy actually is an economy or economic development model based on sustainable development and knowledge of ecological economics. The Blue Economy Gunter Pauli a graduate from St. Ignatius Loyola's University in Belgium, Economics (1979) and obtained his MBA from INSEAD (1982) in Fontainebleau, France and finally a Doctorate in Systemic Design from the Instituto Politecnico di Torino (Italy) is a pioneer of the concept of the Blue Economy. The Blue Economy means a further development of the Green economy. Instead of calling it Green 2.0 the term refers to the color of sky, the ocean and the Gaia seen from the universe.

He wrote a book The Blue Economy with the twin aims of stimulating entrepreneurship while setting up new and higher standards towards sustainability. Several innovations are described in the context of water, energy, building or food supply. Moreover the Blue Economy thinking is also broken down into things every individual can do every day to live a happier, healthier and more sustainable life. The goals set for the Blue Economy as a Business Model are high: To create 100 million jobs and substantial capital value through 100 innovations in the 2010-2020 decade. All the innovations cover the full gamut of industrial activity; from energy to mining; from medicine to banking. ... all of it inspired by science and biometrics. All with zero emissions and no waste. Memorable achievements from this concept include recycling coffee waste for mushroom farming, making biodegradable detergent from discarded citrus peel, and the conversion of petrol stations into 'charge stations' for electric cars among others. Challenges and Opportunities "The world has been racked by food, fuel, environmental, financial, and economic crises. Ecosystem and biodiversity loss has led to an emerging climate crisis and a looming natural-resource calamity. The Blue Economy principles permit to respond to the basic needs of all with what we have. It stands for a different way of designing business by using the resources available in cascading systems, where the waste of one product becomes the input to create a new cash flow. It aims at creating jobs, building up social capital and rising income while saving the environment. An international community of companies, innovators and scientists support the concept, providing open source access to develop, implement and share prosperous business models which targets to improve natural ecosystems and quality of life. In the congress, Dr. Ernie Gonzales, a graduate of London School of Economics and a Professor from UP Manila will discuss and explore the concept of Blue Economy in Philippine setting.
