1 Corinthians 10:21

October 2013

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. Ephesians 5:6-12 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. ...

Dogs-Mutant Disasters?

By Ken Ham

DID YOU KNOW that dogs are often used by evolutionists to demonstrate evolution at work in our world today? Years ago, I told a veterinarian that I had purchased a small dog of a certain breed for our children. The vet looked at me and said, Ken, I hope you realize the sort of biological disaster you have there! Your dog has all sorts of problems. I make a living keeping these biological disasters alive! The vet told us that domestic breeds of dogs have mutations. Mutations, as he explained (and which we knew), are mistakes in the genes. They occur because of the curse (Genesis 3). Today it is very sad that many people think that when they see changes in dogs, it is some upward evolutionary variation. But its not evidence of evolution. You see, these dogs arent improving--- or evolving upward--- at all! These breeds are going the other direction- devolving, if you will. Our breed of dog may be cute, but it had many mistakes in its genes, resulting from the curse of Genesis 3.

How much power do witches have? Didnt the witch of Endor call Samuel back from the dead? Doesnt that prove spirits and mediums really can reach the dead, as they claim? Read the story ( 1 Samuel 28;3 ) closely and you discover the most surprised person in the witchs house was the witch herself ( 1 Samuel 28:12-14 )! She may have expected some evil spirit to manifest itself, but she surely didnt expect Samuel himself to appear. Dont be fooled. People who dabble in the occult may touch supernatural powers, but they are dabbling with danger.

The LCMS View on Halloween

Q: Has the LCMS said anything officially on the celebration of Halloween? May we permit children to dress as goblins and ghosts, etc.? What should we teach our children concerning this celebration? A: The LCMS has not officially spoken to the observance of Halloween in any of its resolutions or statements. Frankly, opinions differ in our church regarding the appropriateness of Christians observing Halloween customs. Those who oppose the observance of Halloween by Christians argue that its origins are pagan and that emphasis on the Occult in our society finds expression in various kinds of Halloween symbols, parties and activities. Others argue that, generally speaking, current Halloween customs have little to do with pagan roots in the minds of most and that there is no harm done in permitting our children to enjoy such customs. In general, this is a good example of an issue where "sanctified common sense" and a balanced approach are necessary-with sensitivity to the "witness value" of a given action or activity in a specific context. On the one hand, we do not want to minimize the potential dangers of involvement with occultic symbols and practices. At the same time, we do not want to lay a burden of conscience on others in matters that lie in the area of Christian freedom and sound Christian judgment.

Halloween Safety Tips

1. Cell phones - Be sure you have your cell phones before you leave home. If you do not have a cell phone, team-up with a reliable friend who does. Also keep your cell phones easily accessible, not in Halloween bags. . 2. Stay with a friend or group - There is safety in trick-or-treating in numbers. 3. Never go into houses - A sweet elderly lady could answer the door but a dangerous predator could be inside. 4. No Drinking, Drugs, or Tricking - Remind your teens of the consequences. 5. Costumes - Wear bright costumes. Illuminate dark costumes. No one is ever too old to be hit by a car. 6. Plan a route and stick to it - This means no unsafe alleys, backyards, short-cuts, or deserted unlit areas. Stay in well-lit areas and only go to well-lit houses. 7. Follow the local curfew - Halloween trick-ortreat curfews enhance safety.. 8. Don't Eat Candy - Bring it home to be checked. 9. Driving Instructions - If you drive for Halloween trick-or-treating: 1. No horsing around while driving, 2. wear seat belts, 3. keep lights on, 4. drive slowly, and 5. watch out for little trick-ortreaters. A split-second accident could have negative lifetime effects. 10. Carry an ID - Family can be reached faster in an emergency.
