Management Science or Art or Both

Management is the crucial component for any organization without which the firm cant achieve its targeted goal. The serious discussion had been occurring from many decades that is management Science or Art. Different people have various thought regarding this topic. First of all we need to be clear about the Art and Science. Science is a knowledge relating to different physical and natural world which are based on the scientific experiment and universally proven. Art is a act of completing the activities in best effective way. Before deciding whether management is an art of science, we need to first consider major managerial function. They are given below: Planning: It is related with setting firms target and goal and process of achieving it. So, the managers most predict all the possible way to achieve the goal, most predict future hindrances in advance so that the firm can prepared best to tackle with the problem. (prediction of future i.e science) Leading: Manager most have leading capabilities which is also contain, inspiring, directing and motivating and influencing others for accomplishment of the targeted goal in given period of time. (Art). Organizing: It involves allocation of different activities, role and responsibilities and grouping them into different appropriate departments with clear chain of authority. Proper organizing depends upon the managers capability to handle all the available resources and accumulating or organizing them in best possible way.( Art). Control: This is measurement of the actual performance with the standard performance IF deviation occurs certain decision are taken to eradicate the problems. (combination of art and science). Management is the art of getting things done through other people using available resources. Different managerial skills and capabilities are required for the effective management of the firm so that it can achieve the targeted goal in given period of time. Motivating, encoring and maintaining proper relation with employees needs a certain skill for managers to use them according to the need. Similarly, different scientific tools and techniques are used for the prediction regarding budgets preparation, sales and demand forecasting, controlling need to perform by the management for the best possible outcome which is a completely a science. Thus, the above logic proves that management is both Science and Art.

Managers are developed


Managers are those human resources who manage the entire activities of the organization. Success or failure of the organization depends upon the efficient management. Thus, a good management team is very much crucial for any organization for smooth operation of all its activities and to accomplish the targeted goal in given specific time. Different trainings, experiences and so on can be great knowledge for enhancing the skill and capabilities of the managers.

Characteristics of Managers

Good manager posses variety of good qualities and competencies which are describe below: Knowledge and commitment toward the work : Knowledge regarding various topics and problems and commitment towards the work is very much essential so that managers can carefully understand the scenario and evaluate the problem existed so that they can solve it in best possible way. Responsibility and accountability: Good managers most feel great responsibility and accountability towards the entire organizational activities and need to be serious towards the job. Good Leadership and communication skill: Good manager are those who influence, inspire and motivates his subordinates for the proper accomplishment of the given task with clear instruction so that staff may not suffer any difficulties in understanding. Dynamic in nature: Business environment is changing with the change of time so anything can happen in coming future. A good manager most have ability to change the organization according to change in environment for the betterment of the firm. Positive attitudes and behavior: Manger most have positive attitudes and behavior so that it can cope with any problem arises. Decision making ability: Making correct decision plays vital role for the success of any firm. Thus a manager most make correct decision evaluating various alternatives thinking for the long term affect of the decision within short period of time so that firm will not suffer for a long time from the problem. Adaptability: Firm should operate its transaction in any situation so a manager most have ability to adapt the changing factors and convince their staff to adapt the change. Independent and problem solving nature: Manager should not take decision influencing under other provocation but have to think independently and take the suggestion from the seniors in order to solve the problem correctly and effectively. Besides these different other qualities like: team player, calm and friendly, enthusiastic and participative, trustworthy etc are necessary for a good manager.

Different people have different attitudes and behaviour. Attitudes can be changed due to the variation in different mental and emotional factors. All these variation occurs with the passes of time, while facing different problems one's should tackle with situation. Different problems and situation can change the attitudes of the person and usually starts with selfawareness. Attitudes can be change by the following ways:

Education: Attitude can be developed through different learning materials. Many

important knowledges will be gained after studying different useful materials and we can developed our attitude according to the need of situation. It is easier to have the right attitude if you have the right knowledge. For example, after learning about emotional

intelligence in one of our workshops, participants reported an average of 55 percent improvement in their ability to deal with negative emotions.

Experiences Experiences shape our attitudes. we can provide our staff various

opportunities to think in different style. with the opportunity to think differently. For example, employees may have poor relationships until they are given an opportunity to bond together through team building exercises. Similarly, Workshops, feedback and coaching will benefit your attitude. Training programs can improve leadership, sales, handling change, project management, team building, communication and customer service. Following factors also help to change the attitudes: Due to success or failure in a project or two Due to mental and emotional circumstances Persuasion Thought provoking features Education/ knowledge Experience from the past results

There is a close relationship between attitudes and job satisfaction. By viewing the attitude and behaviour of employees in the organisation the manager most traced out that he/she is satisfied with his job or not. It is very crucial for the organization to satisfied their employees in order to get things done within given period of time using the limited available resources. Managers most concerned about the attitude of the employees and their job satisfaction level because human resources are most important resources that mobilizes all other available resources for getting things on time. So, they need to handle so carefully

keeping their needs and interest on mind. The more he observes the attitude closely the more he can get closer to satisfying the job to the employees. For instance, managers can give different tough works with equitable rewards, good working environment and proper feedbacks. This will not only helps employees to bring positive changes on their attitudes but also leads for the proper job satisfaction. Drug rehabilitation programs are operate for those who wants to get rid of drugs but still they are not able to recover from it. Different methods are used by such rehabilitation to change the perception and thinking pattern of the people who are admitted. In my view, these program are operates for changing behaviour as well as the attitude of the addicted people. It is very much essential to change their attitude and behaviour so that they get rid of addiction. Such people are always going through many mental and emotional problems. For the improvement in their behaviour and attitudes different programs and training are given so that they can change their emotions and thoughts. Well, there are many situation when the other people and we students behave differently on many occasions. According to need of situation we need to behave so differently than other people. One of my personal experience of such a case is: when I used to work as sales man in company and need to deal with different customer in house or out of house. Once, I had to serve a customer who was rather snobby and rude. Based on my attitude, I stand my grounds where I dont let go down my self-respect get hurt but due to my job i cope very patiently and calmly. Even though the customer was yelling at me for something so inevitable and was only testing my patience, I dealt it with a different behaviour that was very good (according to my manager) but a bit different than me or my attitude. I usually ignore such people and tend to remain silent or walk away in such cases but I had to keep talking to them to soothe them. Hence, making me realise that I behaved different to that of my attitude.
