School of Education
Catalog Description
This course focuses on how to use the Internet for teaching and learning. It helps
students develop skills and strategies in integrating the Internet as an essential
resource into the curriculum. Prerequisite: ED452 equivalent.
Course Rationale
Technologically based literacy skills, in this day and age, have become a path to
personal growth as well as to the future workplace. While earlier generations
were introduced to information primarily through books, American teens now
access information predominantly from the web or other new digital media
sources. Self-generated digital media, particularly web-based, is profoundly
influencing every aspect of their lives. Therefore, this course introduces in-service
teachers to blogs, wikis, and other read-write Internet services that allow
students to be creators of digital media. In addition, you will gain experience
using course management tools for designing and managing online school and
classroom content.
