Why Used IGBT?

IGBT is a 3-terminal device that used as an electronic switches for the combining of higher efficiency and faster switching. It switching electrical power in various applications such as variable speed refrigerators, electric cars, and air-conditioners. It is designed to switch on and off. The IGBT combined gate-drive characteristics of MOSFETs with high current and low saturation voltage capability of BJT by combining an isolated gate FET for control input, and bipolar power transistor as a switches. IGBT used in medium to high applications such as switched mode, motor control and induction. Large IGBT basically have very high current capabilities with blocking voltages around 6,000 V. The IGBT is a newly invention. The first generation devices were relatively slower in switching. Second generation devices improved, and the latesy third generation devices are even much better. The pulse ratings of second and third generation devices make them useful in generate large power. The pulse rating and low prices on the market make them attractive to the high voltage in generate large amounts of high frequency. Besides affordable, IGBTs is a key for hybrid car and electric vehicle. For instance, second generation hybrid Prius has IGBT controlling which connected to the DC batteries.

Comparison Between Multilevel Inverter Flying Capacitor And Diode Clamp

The comparison of between this inverters is based on the ratings of output voltage quality, power complexity, and cost production. The comparison results are based on theoretical results. The two multilevel were studied for purpose of comparison. Simulation results of the converters were obtained using PSIM. The comparison of inverters is based on criteria as follows: cost production control complexity voltage THD % of the output voltage amplitude and dominant harmonic components
