Rules and Regulations

The 8th Managements Events: Gadjah Mada Business Case Competition


Overview

The organizers offer the following procedures and rules to provide a competition environment that is culturally diverse, transparent, and fair to all teams.

Eligibility
The competition is open to all active undergraduate students from any universities around the world. Eligible students can come from any discipline . Students are to register in teams of three students. Students have to belong to the same universities. Cross-discipline teams are permitted. Member(s) of a team is not allowed to be the member of another team. The competition consists of 3 rounds; an elimination round which takes place over the internet, followed by the semi-final and final round which will be held at Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Team Composition

Once a team is registered, modification in its composition is not allowed. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, the organizers have to be notified of any changes and the reasons for doing so. Permission for the changes will be announced maximum three days after the notification. The organizers are contactable at managementsevents@feb.ugm.ac.id.

Fair Play
Teams will only submit their own original work for all deliverables. All sources must be specified and identified clearly. The team is not allowed to receive any coaching from their faculty advisor or have any contact with other faculty or external experts during the competition. Teams are not allowed to include anything in all their deliverables that would enable judges to identify their education institutions.

Registration
Students is suggested to read the rules carefully before registration. Students should pay the registration fee of US$37 for students from universities outside of Indonesia or Rp320.000,00 for students from universities in Indonesia To register, students should log onto me.feb.ugm.ac.id. On the registration page, students should fill the registration form and attach their team members' student cards along with the proof of payment. In selecting team names, teams are not allowed to indicate or suggest their education institution. After registration, no changes to the teams name can be made. Teams are to furnish the organizers with a valid email and contact number. Upon registration, teams will receive an email confirming the validity of the email address provided. Emails will be the main communication channel between teams and the organizers. The responsibility is on all teams to ensure receipt of the confirmation email. In the event no confirmation email is received, teams are to notify the organizers promptly at managementsevents@feb.ugm.ac.id. By registering, competitors consent to having their information published on me.feb.ugm.ac.id.

Elimination Round
Case Release The elimination round case will be released on November 20th 2013. Deliverables Teams are to submit a paper consists of: a one page cover with the team name and email contact (should not indicate anything that enable judges to identify their education institutions), a one page executive summary of the solutions, a five pages analysis and solutions, appendices (optional). The paper submitted should abide to the following specifications: Font Headings : Calibri, 14pt, bold; Body : Calibri, 12pt Layout Justified, single spacing, 1 inch margin on all sides Header Include team name and email only Format pdf format only File name GMBCC_qualification_teamname Submission Submission will be done by sending the paper of case solution to managementsevents@feb.ugm.ac.id. Teams are encouraged to submit early to avoid possible network problems. Teams are allowed to submit multiple times. Only the latest submission will be considered. Upon successful receipt of the file, GMBCC will notify each team via email.

In the event of submission delay due to a documented failure in network infrastructure or the lack of a receipt acknowledgement email, teams must promptly notify GMBCC organizers at managementsevents@feb.ugm.ac.id so that organizers can provide an alternative avenue for submission. External Support After receiving the case, teams are not allowed to receive any assistance from any external parties in preparing the paper. Anonymity Teams are not allowed to include anything in their file that would enable judges to identify their education institution. Judging The deliverables will be evaluated on the basis of clarity, accuracy of issue identification and analysis, the relevance and viability of proposals and recommendations, and creativity.

Semi-Final Round
Notification of Semi-Finalist The result of the qualification round will be announced by January 17th, 2014 at 00.01 (GMT+7) Case Release The case will be released after team has confirmed their attendance to Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The latest confirmation will be on January 24th, 2014 and case release will be on January 29nd, 2014.

Resources Any resource supporting the case solution are permitted. All sources must be specified and identified clearly. Submission Teams will have to submit their semi-finals presentation at the Technical Meeting on March 12th, 2014. The specification of the presentation will be published to the semifinalist soon after the notification.

Semi-Finals Presentation Teams will have 10 minutes to present their analysis of the case, followed by 10 minutes of question and answer. When a team finishes its presentation, it will proceed immediately to the Q&A session from judges. Upon reaching time limits, a presenter may complete only the current sentence. Order of Presentation A random ballot will be conducted to determine the order of presentation Case Release Presentation Materials The organizers of GMBCC will prepare copies of each teams PowerPoint slides and distribute them to the judges. Teams are not permitted to give the judges any other supplementary material.

Judging Presentations will be evaluated on the basis of clarity, accuracy of issue identification and analysis, the relevance and viability of proposals and recommendations, and creativity.

Audience participation No team will be allowed to watch the presentations of other teams during the Semi-finals. Anonymity Teams are not allowed to include anything in their presentation slides that would enable judges to identify their education institution.

Final Round

Notification of Finalist Finalist will be announced at the end of the Semi-final Round. The finalist consist of five teams which will proceed to Final Round. Order of Presentation A random ballot will be conducted to determine the order of pre sentation Case Release The case will be released on March 15th 2014, at the competition venue. Teams will have 5 hours to work on the case and prepare their presentation slides in a separated holding room for each team. Resources No laptops or writing materials will be provided. All teams are to bring their own working materials. Each team is permitted to use a computer which is connected to internet on each holding room. All teams will have access to the internet during case preparation. Each team will be provided by a modem to access the internet on each teams laptop. All sources must be specified and identified clearly.

Submission Teams will have to submit their final slides at the time and location specified by the Competition Director during case release. Presentation Finalists will present the solution of the case given before. Teams will have 15 minutes to present their analysis of the case, followed by 15 minutes of question and answer. When a team finishes its presentation, it will proceed immediately to the Q&A session. Upon reaching time limits, a presenter may complete only the current sentence.

Presentation Slides Teams will not be allowed to edit their slides after submitting the presentation to the organizers

Any other rules or information will be posted on the official competition website me.feb.ugm.ac.id. Teams are responsible for checking the website regularly for the latest updates. GMBCC organizers reserve the right to disqualify or penalize any teams found to be in breach of the competition rules. The organizers also reserve the right to make changes to the rules with sufficient notice to the competitors.
