prologue
Please read the below passage if you are interested in applying to join the staff of The Adroit Journal. First, a bit about the publication itself: The Adroit Journal is an internationally-distributed literary magazine with a defined focus on giving emerging writers in high school and college the professional treatment they deserve by featuring their works alongside the works of a myriad of established writers (such as Matthew Rohrer, Dorianne Laux, Ned Vizzini, Garth Greenwell, Edith Pearlman, Bruce Bond, Laura Kasischke, and more). Since inception in November 2010, the journal has received almost 7,000 submissions for consideration, and maintains an acceptance rate of approximately 4%. Each year, the journal constructs a humanitarian feature (2012- Cuba, 2013- Zimbabwe), recognizes undergraduate and secondary writers with the Adroit Prizes in Fiction and Verse, and nominates selected works for the Pushcart Prizes, Best New Poets Anthology, Best of Net Anthology, and Plain China Best Undergraduate Writing Anthology. Current developments (with the help of the University of Pennsylvanias Kelly Writers House) include adjusting to an annual publication plan of two online issues and one print issue, while further sculpting our charitable focus to distribute print copies around the United States with the help of our partner organization the Fill-A-Room Campaign (www.fillaroom.org). The journal is currently staffed by approximately sixty high school and college students from around the world. As the journal continues to expand and assimilate to the global literary world, we have opened our doors to new individuals (expanded now to a category of 24 years of age or younger as of October 1, 2013, the beginning of our reading period) to fill a variety of volunteer positions, all of which are detailed in this catalogue. Please note that experience, while beneficial, is not necessary, and that you can apply for as many different positions as you would like. All applications should be emailed to theadroitjournal@gmail.com according to the specialized guidelines included throughout this catalogue. We will close our application portal on December 1, 2013, but encourage you to apply sooner rather than later, as we will be evaluating applications on a rolling basis. Please email applications separately if applying for more than one position. In the meantime, please feel encouraged to reach out via email (drop us a line: theadroitjournal@gmail.com) if you happen to have any questions, or would like additional information. 4 | THE ADROIT JOURNAL
