Introduction
Que. Data : Data is a name given to basic facts and Entities. Or Data can be anything Eg. Name , address , etc Attendance sheet where Rollno, name , present or absent Sign are a data. Que. Information : Meaningful data is known as Information Information helps people in their decision making process. Eg. Merit List , Reports Que. Database : Collection of interrelated data are known as database Que. Database Management System: It is collection of interrelated data & set of program to access data. The collection of data usually referred as the database, which contain information relevant to an enterprise. The primary goal of Database Management System is to provide a way to store & retrieve database information that is convenient and efficient. Que. Early Information System(File Processing System): In early days, each business was stores business transactions information in hard copy or in various notebooks. When Computer introduced, each Business transactions informations were stores in various files. Normally Text file were used to store each informations and when ever need to Retrieve the information , Application Program were used to retrieve The Informations. Application Program was used to manage the information of files. Application Program is Written in different languages are used to extract information from text file. Disadvantages of File Processing System: 1. Data Redundancy and Inconsistency: All the informations was stores in different Files. The Various Files are likely to have duplicate informations and because of Duplicate informations Redundancy are increased. E.g. The address and telephone number of a particular customer may appear in a file that consists of a saving account record & in a file that consists of check account. The redundancy leads to higher storage and access cost. E.g. Each Student informations Like Rollno, name, contact no are Stores at computer Lab files, and also at each faculties facultys individual attendance sheet. So that here all the Students information are repeated to Various Files. In addition it may lead to data inconsistency i.e. the various copy of this same data may not have same data value. Student informations are stored at various files like computer lab file, DBMS Attendance File, C Attendance File etc Suppose Student information are modified at one file will not reflected to all other files. This may increase the inconsistency. 2. Difficulty in Accessing Data: File Processing System does not allow to Retrieve the particular needed Data. It will display All the informations of file it does not return the particular needed data. Eg. Teacher wants to Retrieve The Particular Students Contact number, file Processing System Does not have such kind of Facilities. Teacher Have Two Choice
