ISLAM– The Way of life

The purpose of this meeting is that we are here to CHANGE, So that we become better human beings and become
obedient servants of Allah and serve his religion and the divine message. As we are all eagerly waiting for his last Hujjat
Hazrat Mahdi (atfs) in this holy month we can struggle to understand his message and try and understand what Imam
expects from us. And we shall try and think and ponder over different issues related to Islam.

This is also great month of Astaghfaar and we can cleanse our hearts with Astaghfaar and reach close to Allah which
is our final destination and importantly Insha Allah we cleanse our heart from Nifaaq and other spiritual diseases.

To start the session I have the Ayat of Holy Quran in which Allah (swt) says

I ) Change :

For each (such person) there are (angels) in succession, before and behind him: They guard him by command of Allah.“
Surely Allah does not change people's lot (condition) unless they change what is in their hearts. But when (once)
Allah willeth a people's punishment, there can be no turning it back, nor will they find, besides Him, any to protect. Allah
(willeth misfortune for a folk there is none that can repel“(13:11

“And that Man shall have nothing but what he strives for, and his Striving shall be soon seen. Then shall he be
rewarded for it with the fullest reward, and that to YOUR LORD IS THE GOAL”

Allama Iqbaal “ Khud ko badalte nahi ye.... Quraan ko badal dete Hai ”

“ And we have indeed made the Quran. Easy to understand and remember then is there any one who will
receive admonitions”

When we gather at any gathering we should try and come with open and clean heart and mind. So that we can
understand Holy Quran the way it is and not way we want to.

Example: When you go to marriage party where all the foods are available, would you take Achar in your pocket. When
the Host has arranged all what is necessary for you.
Similarly Quran has got the best philosophy of Living and leading our daily life. So we should try and follow Quran and
not try and think it as we want but understand religion as our Imams have taught.

So Insha Allah we sit here to think , ponder and do Tafaqqur and tadabbur on various aspects of Islam. I am sure
you must be aware of some part or some of you may be aware of most part of this talk But it will be still be important that
we go back and refresh our minds with the basics of our faith. And we should all know that Allah has given us just one
chance and there will be no second chance One More Ayat to ascertain where we stand

“Do the evil does think that they are equal in our (Allah’s) sight, with the believer who do good work, so that
their lives and deaths are alike? How bad they judge! ” (45:21)

Once during the time of Khilafat of Imam Ali (a.s) there was a man who was selling Fishes without scales. Imam
was passing by and saw this man selling fishes, which are haraam to sell. Imam immediately ordered 11 hunters for this
man .
Man : Imam I m your Shia
Imam : then give him 22 hunters
Man : I did not know that it was haraam
Imam : then give him 33 hunters ,
Explanation : Imam (a.s) ordered him 11 hunters initially based on Islamic principles but when he claimed to be a Shia his
responsibilities are more so his punishments was doubled and when as a Shia you don’t know what you are doing and
the Islamic laws pertaining to that ,, it is more heinous crime.. So As a shia of Ali we understand :
• We need to follow the teachings of Masoomens in Practise
* If we say we are shias we have additional responsibility
* If we say we don’t know or I was not aware be prepared for some extra punishment.

Example of Allama Majlisi : That he use to stay with a Sharigd (student) for four years, The student said in my 4 yrs of
stay I have not seeen Allama make even 1 makrooh act. ~ So he was not masoom and we see many olemas leading life
where they have followed Aeimmah in deeds and not words.

II) Youth & Responsibility

a) Youth and its importance:

.‫ ما القي فيها من شيء إلّ قبلته‬،‫ إنّما قلب الحدث كالرض الخالية‬:‫قال المام عليّ عليه السّلم‬
Imām ʿAlī ibne Abī Ṭālib (a.s.) has said: “Surely the heart of the youth is like the uncultivated ground – it will accept
whatever you throw upon it [and that is what will grow from it].“ Tahaful Uqul Pg 70

Imām Jaʿfar ibne Muḥammad as-Ṣādiq (a.s.) said to a companion named Al-Aḥwal: “’Have you been to Baṣrah?’ The
man replied, ‘Yes.’ The Imām (a.s.) then asked him, ‘How did you find the enthusiasm of the people in regards to this
issue [of the Wilāyah and Imāmate of the Ahlul Baīt] and their acceptance of it?’ The man replied, ‘I swear by Allāh
surely those people [who follow and accept this] are few in number. They work upon this [propagating this belief to
others, even though they are small in number.’ The Imām replied to him, ‘I advise you to work on the youth [in
educating them on these issues] since surely they are quicker to accept all good things.’

b) The Young person & refraining from seeking knowledge

Imām Mūsā ibne Jaʿfar al-Kādhim (a.s.) has said: “If I was to find a youth from amongst the youth of the Shīʾa
not gaining a deep knowledge and understanding, I would surely strike him with a sword.” Fikhul Riza pg 337

Imām Muḥammad ibne ʿAlī al-Bāqir (a.s.) has said: “If I were to find a youth from amongst the youth of the Shīʾa that was
not engaged in gaining a deep knowledge and understanding [of the religion] I would seriously reprimand him.“ Al
Mahasin Vol.1, pg 357, 760

Imām Jaʿfar ibne Muḥammad as-Ṣādiq (a.s.) has said: “I do not like to see the youth from amongst yourselves except
that he/she is passing the life in one of two states: either as a scholar or as a student. So then if he is not in one of these
two states then he is one who has wasted (something) and surely the one who wastes is one who has squandered
something and surely the act of squandering is a sin and the person who commits a sin shall reside in the Hell Fire –
I swear by the one who appointed Muḥammad with The Truth.“ Amali of Al Tusi , Pg 303, 604

c) The greatness of a Young person who worships Allah

The Messenger of Allāh (s.w.a.) has said: “Surely Allāh, the High, loves the young person who is repents [for his sins].“
Kanzul Ummal , Hadith 10185

The Messenger of Allāh (s.w.a.) has said: “Surely the most beloved of the creations to Allāh, the Noble and Grand, is the
youth who is young in age and who is a very handsome/beautiful individual however he places his youth and his beauty
in Allāh and in His obedience alone. This is the thing for which the Most Merciful [Al-Raḥmān] boasts to His
Angels about and says, ‘This is truly my servant.’” Kanzul Ummal , Hadith 43103

Imām Ḥasan ibne ʿAlī al-Mujtabā (peace be upon him) has said:
“Surely today you are the youth of the nation, and tomorrow, you will be the leaders of the community, thus, it is
incumbent upon you to seek knowledge. So then if you are not able to memorize all that you learn, then you must write it
down and preserve it (for safe keeping) so that you can refer to it later on (when you need it).“Biḥārul Anwār, Volume 2,
Page 152, Ḥadīth 37

Insha Allah this discussion will help us to give the insight we need and the approach we need to go into our main part of
the speech. But before that I would like to bring one more aspect which is Imaan (Belief) and Khuloos (Niyat for only
Allah)

III) Niyyat ~ (Intention)

In Islam one of the basics of all acts is Niyyat (Intention)

“ Al Aamalo bin niyyate hi “ . ~ Our Aamal are depndend on our action.

If our Niyyat is purely for the pleasure of Allah (khalistan Lillah ) then Allah will help in our action Insha Allah.

Let us take example of Islamic History the first battle of Islam~

Muslims Kuffars
Badr 313 1000
Ohad 1000 10000
Tabuk 10000 100000

Though muslims were far lesser in number and did not have enough weapon they still managed to win because they
fought only for the pleasure of Allah. They were bare footed with no weapons, they were hungry and the kuffars were fully
armed but Allah helped them because they obeyed the Prophet (saww) and Allah. Allah rewarded them with victories.

Now lets take expample of war of Hizbulla and Israel .

there were very few hizbullas, less equipped still they won the war against a army which was fully supported by USA. The
reason why they won as per Hasan Nasrullahs Statement is that they won it because of divine help.
Example of Karbala and 2 Kids came up to the general in Iran to fight the war. General said no .. they said u give us in
writing that Janabe Kasim was not present in Karbala and we will not fight.. general had to accept..

Now lets see the Islamic Revolution in Islamic republic of Iran : nobody expected the Islamic revolution to succeed
because they did not have weapons, no army but they had a vision to make a government which will work for the cause
of Imam (atfs). To surprise of every body they won ?

WHY THEY WON ?

Because Allah helps those who work for him

Conclusion: we need to have khuloos and full faith in Allah as nobody can help if he doesn’t. So have faith in him and
implore his help by working with khuloos and just for Allah
PART 2

What Is Deen (Religion) ?

Islam is a religion of peace. This is evident even from the name "Islam" itself. ("Islam" is an Arabic word.) The word
"Islam" and the Arabic word for peace, "salam" both comes from the same root, "salima".

Say: Lo! my worship and my sacrifice and my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the Worlds.

Islam is not Christianity?

Christianity has belief that God will forgive all sins if u only submit to Jesus and ask for forgiveness on every Sunday. Tell
the father of all yr wrong doings and father will forgive you.

Islam is complete and comprehensive meaning it covers All aspects of our lives:

Even when we go to toilet Islam says do this way put weight on the left lag.. do istibrah.. this dua .. Now a religion, which
covers such small things, cannot leave any aspect of human life. Be it social, spiritual, day-to-day transaction, Marriage,
sex etc.

How the Prophet propagated the religion :

Very important that we reflect on the fact that Holy Prophet used to be called AMIN and SADIQ by non muslims. The
main reason why muslims have all the problem today is that we have lost these 2 basic characters of the Holy Prophet
(saww)

Islam is complete and comprehensive meaning it covers All aspects of our lives:

@ Allah Says in the Holy Quran

“Do you think that we have created you for nothing (IN JEST) and you would not return “

And when ye call to prayer they take it for a jest and sport. That is because they are a folk who understand not.

We have 3 different aspects to our religious duty (Ibadat):

Relation (Duties) of man with God (Spiritual- Huaqua

Allah) :

Relation (Duties) of man with his own self ( Nafs,

Development):

Relations (Duties) of man with fellow human being

(Huquq un Naas)
I) Relation of man with God (Spiritual- Huaqua Allah) :

The Holy Qur'an says "Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find peace" Sura 13 verse 28.

Say: Lo! my worship and my sacrifice and my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the Worlds.
(6:162)

Peace of mind that passes understanding can only be attained by sincere and continuous remembrance of
Allah.

Imam Ali (a.s) “ Carefully Guard that rope that connects you with Allah ”

Positive: This is basic and an important aspect of the religious duty of human being i.e Identifying Almighty God, His
Attributes and performing his rituals as HE has commanded us to follow. As we have also read an ayat of the Quran
YOUR LORD IS THE GOAL

Extreme: Ibaadat of Sufi who forgets the world and only engrosses himself of just jatan, mantra, tasbeeh , tahreer etc.
and take a lota and go to mountain and just say ALLAHO …

Imam Ali (a.s) was once taken during his Khilafat to Kufa and shown few people jus doing Tasbeeh. Imam asked why are
they jus doing Tasbeeh all day .. how they feed themselves … when he came to know tht they dnt work .. Imam threw
them out of the mosque saying : even dogs are better thena them bcoz even dogs find their own food “

Sufism : Sufi (Arabic: ‫ تصــوّف‬- taṣawwuf, Persian: ‫ صوفی‌گری‬sufigari, Turkish: tasavvuf, Urdu: ‫ )تصــوف‬is generally
understood to be the inner, mystical dimension of Islam.[1][2][3] A practitioner of this tradition is generally known as a ṣūfī (
ّ‫) صُوفِي‬, though some adherents of the tradition reserve this term only for those practitioners who have attained the goals
of the Sufi tradition. Another name used for the Sufi seeker is dervish.

Classical Sufi scholars have defined Sufism as "a science whose objective is the reparation of the heart and turning it
away from all else but God."[4] Alternatively, in the words of the renowned Darqawi Sufi teacher Ahmad ibn Ajiba, "a
science through which one can know how to travel into the presence of the Divine, purify one’s inner self from filth, and
beautify it with a variety of praiseworthy traits."[5]

II) Mans develeopment of his own Self.

Imam Ali (a.s) says “Jisne Khud ko pehchaan liya usne Khuda ko Pehchaan Liya”

Explanation : How can you identify yourself and reach GOD ? and also development of your worldly positions as Allah
says momeneen should acquire power so we should strice acquire power but aim should be to use that power to serve
Allah (swt). Also Humans are expecte to gai knowledge woek hard to earn livelihood. In Islam when you work for a
livelihood is also considered as Ibadat and worship. As its our duty to fulfi our needs and those dependents on us.

We have to be careful here that the sole purpose of ur existence just doesn’t become like a machine producing money. In
the current economic system Man produces to consume and then consumes so that production is done for the job
market to flourish. Islam promotes to create balance in Human life where People work and stay in the society as
responsible citizens and also have connectin with Almighty.

Extreme : A person only engrossed in his development like Ambani , or any capitalists. This is the belief that man is
capable of everything and create any system and can oppose the existence of God and those who believe in god should
not interfere in Public Insitituitions.

Capitalism is an economic system in which wealth, and the means of producing wealth, are privately owned and
controlled rather than commonly, publicly, or state-owned and controlled.[1][2]

Secularism is the assertion that governmental practices or institutions should exist separately from religion and/or
religious beliefs.

In one sense, secularism may assert the right to be free from religious rule and teachings, and freedom from the
government imposition of religion upon the people, within a state that is neutral on matters of belief, and gives no state
privileges or subsidies to religions. (See also Separation of church and state and Laïcité.) In another sense, it refers to a
belief that human activities and decisions, especially political ones, should be based on evidence and fact unbiased by
religious influence.[1] (See also public reason.)

Separation of church and state is a political and legal doctrine that government and religious institutions are to be kept
separate and independent from each other.[1] The term most often refers to the combination of two principles: secularity of
government and freedom of religious exercise.[2]

III) Relations of man with fellow human being (Huquq un Naas)

Positive : A man working for the society and doing service to Humanity as a whole and specifically working for social
development such helping the poor, building hospitals , schools , speaking for truth , justice etc..

Extreme: You will find a Communist normally will have a service oriented life but just this aspect doesn’t do
justice for human development.

Socilaism and Communism : The history of socialism finds its origins in the French Revolution of 1789 and
the changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution, although it has precedents in earlier movements and
ideas. Like the concept of capitalism, it embraces a wide range of views.[1]

The term 'socialism' is variously attributed to Pierre Leroux in 1834, who called socialism "the doctrine which would not
give up any of the principles of Liberty, Equality, Fraternity" of the French Revolution of 1789[2] or to Marie Roch Louis
Reybaud in France, or else in England to Robert Owen, who is considered the father of the cooperative movement.[3]

Most socialists of that period opposed the dislocations brought by the Industrial Revolution. They criticized what they
conceived to be the injustice, inequalities and suffering which the Industrial Revolution brought into being and the laissez
faire free market on which it rested.[4]

Conclusion : In Islam you need to strike the balance wherein you serve Allah, yourself and the society . even if you are
doing the 2 properly and missing any 1 . that means you are actually not following the complete religion .

Example : Maulana Rum in his book states a wonderful example on which he says ~ There was a elephant in a dark
room with no lights there and then to check peoples intelligence (understanding).
The First man goes inside the room he touches the trunk of elephant and comes out and says that there is a pipe in the
room
The second man goes and touches a leg of the elephant and says the room has a pillar
The third touches the tail and says Yaha diwar pe jhadoo latka hai
The fouth man touches the ears and says Ek panka (oldage) latka hai

Maulana Room says that if you rush about religion without trying to understand all aspects of religion you are in a similar
state.

Then a man goes inside and he touches the trunk and waits and then tryies to find what else it has. Then touches legs,
tails, stomach, teeth etc. and then comes to sonclusion that it is elephant …

The same example applies to majority of Muslims who have understood a part of Islam and think this is all Islam But the
fact is that what they believe is a part and important part of Islam but there are other aspects as well . If you don’t
understand and implement other aspect then our understanding is incomplete ..

Some Muslims have taken Ibaadi Nizam Duas, Munajat – They have become Sufis / Pandits
Some have taken Social development ~ they think service to Allahs creation is true Islam
Some hae taken Ethics / Mysticism / Cultural etc
Some have taken Azadari ~ they think this is only Islam and service to Islam
some have taken Liberal, economic etc

Now all these and many more aspect will contribute to complete understand of Islam so we should not restrict ourselves
to just one aspect and say that it .. islam is vast and covers all aspect of Human life i.e Spiritual, Development,
Relationship with fellow being, love of Ahlulbayt(a.s), Azadari, Economic , poltical, defence .. etc. Any think that we can
think Allah will provide thebest system for it. That’s an approach to understand the comprehensive and complete aspect
of Islam

Ayatulla Khomaini at the time of revolution is Iran said there are 2 kinds of Islam amongst us at the moment :

1) Ismal e Muhammedi : Pure religion which was brought by Mohammed saww and practised and propagated by
aimmae Masoomeen (a.s)
2) Islam e Americai / Yazidi (Liberal / Poluted Face of Islam ) : That Islamic face which doesnot want to speak
against the truth but let Muslims pray and not interfere in any other aspects . It will tell you to pray and not get
involve with the political systems and not say anything relating to establishment of justice.

Even Shah of Iran was Shia, his military was shia, his spies were Shias but they were all Gulams of America or
whosoever is in power.

It will also Confuse Muslims amongst culture and make parts of \Islam as whole Islam

Last year we attended the Yaume Samarrah Event ppl attenended the Azadari session and did Alhmadolillah Matam for 4
hrs. But were not ready to say who attacked Samarrah ~ America and wahabis ~ they will not speak because to speak
for truth is a sign of being a Hussaini bcoz Hussain (a.s) stood up against oppression . Now this face of Islam never
allows anybosy to stand up.
Another Example : the Minister In charge for Religious affairs clearly said that those mosques which donot support the
anti govt. policies then such mosques will be given aids and grants . Even our very own Mosques got the aid of more
than 20000 GBP . Now How can some 1 sepak for Islam when they are being paid from the enemies of Islam.

Islame Muhammadi has many signs ~ Some of the identification is are as it is:

1) Complete

(….This day have I perfected your religion for you and completed My favour unto you, and have chosen for you
as religion al-Islam…(5:3)

Ayatulla Khomaii Says "Unlike other atheist schools of thought, Islam take into account all aspects of human life, that is,
individual, social, physical, spiritual, cultural, political, economic and military affairs of life. Islam does not leave any point
helpful for the material and spiritual development of man and society untouched. Islam elaborates on the obstacles of
such development in society and teaches how to remove them."[14]

Islam is not incomplete and has solutions to all the problems..

“Islam was brought a gift to all mankind”

• Islam is not only for Akherat but also for this Dunya as well
• Islam will give you everything i.e in this world progress, in Kabr maghferat etc…
• Islam will take care of everything from your physical world to the eternal world
• Islam is not like another religion it will take care of dunya, teach you how to earn , guides for spiritual
development, helps you to develop Zahir and baatin both, guides yiur brains, taskeeeh Ruh (Nafs).
• Incomplete Islam will only talk about Akherat and not about Dunya

2) One Ummah

The Holy Prophet (saww) “ The Example of my Ummah is like of 1 body ”

We are all one muslim and the ummah of Imame Zamana (atfs), irrespective of which part of the world we belong we are
all muslims and shias of Imame Zamana (atfs). As youths we need to understand and try to be responsible servants of
Imame Zamana (atfs).

3) Islam has the capacity to rule in this modern progressive world:

* Islam is a practical religion for everyday use in every aspect of life and will provide the best solution
* Islam has the best solution to all the problems of the world and no one has a better solution to any problem other than
Islam.
* There is a conspiracy against Islam that it is 1400 yrs old religion and does not have solutions to all the problem of
todays world

We should learn Islam from Imam Hussain and Aiemma e Masoomeen

4) Izzat Avar – Islam which is true as preached by the Holy Prophet will always give you Izzat in this world

If Islam is true then it will provide you Izzat and Waqar.

* If we loose the true face of Islam in our society then Muslims will have to face zillat
* Which Islamic country today has Izzat except where u will find True Islam
* In comparison that Islam which is American will always be zalil..
* Islame haqiqi (Hussaini)~ Insaan ka sar uta dega

3) Islam is involved in evert aspect of our life and everything essential to form a perfect society:

All the prophets and Imams tried to establish an Islamic government but were forced out by the Zalim rulers and by the
non support of their followers

The basic tenets of Ayatulla Khomaini’s political thought should be ascertained from his approach to the concepts of
religion and politics. He has forwarded his ideas on these two concepts on different occasions and meetings from the
very beginning of the Islamic movement in Iran.

"… It is a perfect form of politics that the Prophet (s) of Islam and our IMAMs in Islam practiced. They came to guide
people and lead them towards their real interest. Politics is meant to guide people and take into account all interests of
the society and man. This is the politics of the Prophets which others are unable to implement."[5]

"If one looks at various teachings of Islam including its social dimensions , concentrates over its rituals like prayers and
hajj pilgrimage which pertains to man's relation with God and takes into account social, economic, political and legal laws
of Islam, one would conclude that Islam does not deal only with rituals and moral matters ... but it is meant to establish a
just government and has certain rules on tax, public finance, legal issues, jihad, and international relations as well."[6]

The teachings of Islam encompass all aspects of human life. Through establishing a just government, Muslims can bring
about social justice. Therefore, it can be inferred that Islamic politics, while taking into account all physical and spiritual
dimensions of man, is meant to guide man towards perfection.

As far as the question of a political theory is concerned we need not borrow from other theories to develop a theory on
politics, for, the religion itself can provide all particulars of a political theory. Nevertheless, it does not mean that all
particulars of every age is contained in religion but it means that one can refer to religious sources to develop a perfect
political theory at each particular age.

"Unlike other atheist schools of thought, Islam take into account all aspects of human life, that is, individual, social,
physical, spiritual, cultural, political, economic and military affairs of life. Islam does not leave any point helpful for the
material and spiritual development of man and society untouched. Islam elaborates on the obstacles of such
development in society and teaches how to remove them."[14]

"Be sure that Islam can provide justice, independence, freedom, economic equality without relying on the teachings of
other schools of thought."[15]

Ayatulla Khomaini bases his ideas on theological accounts. He refers to some of the Qur'anic verses and narration from
the infallible Imams (a). In his speeches he affirms that political and economic system of Islam has not been worked out
seriously. He refers to the following verses of the Qur'an to support his views:

.We have not neglected anything in the Book... Chapter An`am, verse 38 of the Qur'an.

.nor any green nor dry but (it is all) in a clear book…. Chapter An`am, verse 59.

Conclusion :
• Change is essential is our daily life and try and follow the true face of Islam
• As youths we should be more active in Islamic activities and specially realise being servant of Imam (atfs)
• Our Niyyat should be to serve Allah and the Imam of Time (atfs)
• We should try and understand the complete aspect of Islam
• Try and fulfil all apects of our duty i.e towards Allah, Seld and Society
• Finally think and ponder what can we do to be better servants of Imam (atfs)

Finally

"We created man of a water-drop...Surely We guided him to the right way--now whether he (follows it and) be grateful or
(goes astray and) be ungrateful is up to him." (Qur'an: chp. 76, verse 3).

Extra points:

You shall not attain to righteousness until you spend (in the way of Allah) of what you love. (Ali Imran: 92)

The best example of having good things (property, wives, children, relatives, friends, honour and fame) yet staying
detached so as to sacrifice all of them in the way of Allah is found in Karbala. Imam Husayn willingly made an offering of
all that which he had to his Lord.

He has created life and death that He may try you (to prove) which of you is best in conduct;
(Mulk: 2)
