Those swimming laps in open space must be aware of others, and yield right of way. Lap Lanes: Anyone 15 year and older may swim laps in the designated lanes. Lap lane users are required to share lanes when needed. Open swim activity not permitted in these lanes. Please notify all other swimmers in a lane before entering, and enter from shallow end. Use of starting blocks is not permitted during lap swim. Open Swim: Open to all swimmers. All children 5 years and younger, regardless of swimming ability, must have an adult physically in the water, and within arms distance, at all times. Swimmers under 18 must pass a swimming test given by the lifeguard before entering. An adult may stay within arms distance of a child without a floatation device who wishes to swim in the shallow end only. Lap swimming is permitted in the open space, but all lap swimmers must be aware of others and yield right of way. Please yield right of way to swim lessons during open swim times. Swim Team Practice: These time slots and lanes are designated for swim team only. One lane only will be reserved for Lap Swimmers. Open swim activity not permitted during these times. Please visit YMCAWNC.org for practice times, locations and more information on Piranha Swim Team. Water Fitness: These areas of the pool are designated for water fitness classes at these times. Open swim may be allowed for families and children supervised by an adult as long as it does not interfere with the class. Please do not swim through a water fitness class or disrupt by jumping in, throwing toys or being loud. Swim Lessons: These lanes and times are designated for swim lessons only. There is limited open swim during group swim lessons and interference with swim lessons will not be tolerated. Masters Swim: Masters Swim is a program for adults who want to get a competitive swim level workout. These lanes are designated for this program but may be used by other lap swimmers if there is not a need for all lanes designated.
