Grammar: Grade 7 Unit 1: Subjects, Predicates, and Sentences Lesson 6: Kinds of Sentences: Simple and Compound Sentences A simple sentence has one subject and one predicate. However, a simple sentence may have a compound subject, a compound predicate, or both. Saturn and Jupiter are the two largest planets in our solar system. (compound subject & compound predicate) A compound sentence contains two or more simple sentences joined by a coordinating conjunction (and, but, or, nor for, so, yet) or by a semicolon. A run-on sentence is two or more sentences incorrectly written as one sentence.
