The First Sunday of End Time

This Festival is always both the first Sunday after Reformation (October 31st) and the fourth last Sunday of the Church Year. Beginning of the Season of End Time, it celebrates Christs restoration of the Gospel in these last days through His servant Martin Luther. The Liturgical color is red. It is the color of fire, fervor, blood, martyrdom, and the victorious truth of Christian teaching based on the blood of Christ.

The Lords Supper at Zion

participation in the Blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the Body of Christ? Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf. Those who celebrate the Sacrament together are expressing unity with both each another and Christ Jesus their Savior. When the faith publically confessed by the participants is unified, what God gives us in the Sacrament is pure Gospel and a truly a blessed communion and union with one another and our God. But if there is disagreement concerning Gods Word underlying a celebration of the Sacrament, its intended purpose is spoiled and those involved are improperly declaring unity where unity does not fully exist. The Lords Supper is truly a most high and intimate expression of unity. Paul writes in I Corinthians 10:16-17: Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a

Welcome in the Name of Christ!

We pray that you enjoy your time with us and that your spirit is enriched as we together sit at the feet of our Savior. Gods richest blessings be on you! Bathrooms are located in the north and south side of the entryway as you go down into the basement. The mens is on the north side and the womens on the south side. A small Nursery with a changing table and rocking chair is in the back of church on the south side; a carpeted play area is found in the basement; and black activity bags are available in the entryway. If you would like talk to Pastor about anything, catch him after worship or give him a call at 507-648-3601 (Cell: 507-276-5225).

Our practice as it involves the Lords Supper is based on a deep reverence for God and His Word; it is based on our profound respect for the purpose of the Sacrament; and it is based on a deep desire to in every way honestly, accurately, and clearly confess all of Gods Word to the world. Therefore, those who are not yet fully united to us are cordially invited and encouraged to speak with Pastor or an Elder so that we may work together for the truth (III John 8); for when spiritual unity is achieved on the basis of Gods Word, outward unity can and will be joyfully celebrated. Those who have declared their unity with us, either by their membership here or by their membership in another congregation with which we are unified, are cordially invited to express that unity at the Lords Table.

Service Notes
We begin this morning with the Gathering Rite on Holy Baptism incorporating the Order for Holy Baptism. It is printed for you on your Green Insert. Our third Hymn this morning, In Christ Alone, is from Christian Worship Supplement and is printed for you on the Goldenrod insert. During the Offering the Choir will be singing the anthem Hiding in the Shadow of God. Following the service, people are invited to remain and visit for as long as you like.

First Lesson: Jeremiah 31:31-34 The time is coming, declares the

LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them, declares the LORD. This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the LORD. I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, Know the LORD, because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.

Second Lesson: Romans 3:19-28 Now we know that whatever the law
says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunishedhe did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith. For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.

said, If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. They answered him, We are Abrahams descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free? Jesus replied, I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Ladies Aid Bake Sale Thank You: Thank you to everyone who brought items for the bake sale this past Sunday; they were tasty and thoroughly enjoyed! October Voters Meeting: On Sunday, October 20th, at 2:00 pm the October Quarterly Meeting was held. Following an opening prayer by Pastor and the Secretarys, Treasurers and Pastors reports the following items were discussed and decided: After hearing and discussing the recommendation of the Tuition Study Committee, the Voters decided to follow the Committees recommendation and set the commitment for the 2013-2014 school year at $3000.00 per student. There are three students attending this year. Last year the commitment was $2500.00 per student. A lighting specialist was out here to church a few days before the meeting to inspect the Sanctuary; he talked with us and took measurements and pictures. He will be writing up an estimate for lights with specific fixture recommendations and costs. This will be brought to the congregation once we have the estimate. After a good amount of discussion it was decided to do both the South Side and East Entry next year. The South Side would include windows, siding, and insulation; the East Entry would involve the East Walls and roof. Harley Johnson has been retained for the work and questions can be directed to Sam Altermatt or Pastor Prell. Other details from the meeting include: there is currently $72,384.00 in Savings AFTER paying for the work on the North Side as well as $11,648.00 in a CD; we continue to await word from Mike Mason in Sleepy Eye concerning costs and details of possible stained glass windows; there will be two choirs coming in November and DecemberSt. John Lutheran Grade School and MVL. New Sunday Evening Bible Class: Beginning Sunday evening November 24th, we will be starting a new series in the Sunday Evening Bible Class entitled Whats in a Name? Old Testament Names for God. It will be presented by MLC President Pastor Mark Zarling. Watch for more information next week! Hospital Visits: If you or a loved one is going to be in the hospital for surgery, tests, etc., please call Pastor Prell and let him know. He will add you to the Prayer Chain (if you wish) so that others can join in prayers for you. This also helps Pastor know who he needs to visit; due to health care regulations concerning privacy, hospitals no longer publish who is in the hospital. Thanks in advance for your help!

Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another. Hebrews 10:25 I rejoiced with those who said to me, Let us go to the house of the LORD. Psalm 122:1
