ASHRAE Chennai Chapter, the second in the South India was started 2009 and works to accomplish to fulll the goals of ASHRAE, USA .It conducts seminars, bi-monthly Technical Talks in the eld of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration. ABOUT ISHRAE ISHRAE (The Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers) was founded in 1981 at New Delhi by a group of eminent HVAC&R professionals. ISHRAE has more than 8000 members in 34 chapters and over 3000 students in 75 student chapters, across India. ISHRAE organizes International and National Expositions, Seminars, Quiz programs, Paper Presentations, Training and Workshops to achieve its primary objective of furthering the Arts and Sciences of HVAC&R. ISHRAE publishes handbooks, technical guides, a quarterly journal, operates a web portal and develops software for the HVAC&R industry. ISHRAE is harmonising industry standards, publishing a new set of Indian weather data and is closely working with the Government of India in the area of energy conservation. The Chennai Chapter was founded in 1989. Since then the Chapter has successfully conducted many seminars on a variety of subjects. The chapter operates from its own premises fully equipped with a training center. ABOUT SPEAKER T. David Underwood P . Eng. P . ASHRAE Fellow, Life Member, and Certied Commissioning Process Management Professional, is retired and resides in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. As Treasurer of ASHRAE, Underwood is a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive committee. Other service includes member of the Toronto Chapter Board of Governors and Honors and Awards Committee and liaison to the Building Energy Quotient Ad Hoc Committee. He formerly served as director-atlarge on the Board of Directors; a member of the Planning Committee and Foundation Trustees; and chair of the Commissioning Process Management Professional certication subcommittee. As a Vice President he served as chair of Publishing and Education Council. He has received the Exceptional Service Award and the William J. Collins, Jr. Research Promotion Award. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the University of Manitoba in 1964.

189.1 BACKGROUND The purpose of this standard is to provide minimum requirements for the siting, design, construction, and plan for operation of high-performance green buildings to (a) (b) balance environmental responsibility, resource efciency, occupant comfort and well being, and community sensitivity, and support the goal of development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

This standard provides minimum criteria that: a. apply to the following elements of building projects: 1. new buildings and their systems 2. new portions of buildings and their systems 3. new systems and equipment in existing buildings b. address site sustainability, water use efciency, energy efciency, indoor environmental quality (IEQ), and the building's impact on the atmosphere, materials, and resources. The provisions of this standard do not apply to single-family houses, multi-family structures of three stories or fewer above grade, manufactured houses (mobile homes) and manufactured houses (modular), or buildings that use none of the following: electricity, fossil fuel, or water. This standard is a compliance option of the International Green Construction.
