Letter from the President
The CIAA is a volunteer-driven organization. Without members giving their time, an associa-
tion like ours can not prosper. Volunteering gives you the opportunity to get to know how the
association works and opens up opportunities to become a member of the Board of Directors.
Members are sometimes concerned that they won’t know what to do or that they won’t have
time once they commit. The Board of Directors works closely with all volunteers, and any
time that can be given is greatly appreciated. A lot goes on behind the scenes to keep our asso-
ciation ticking. We need YOU involved to continue bringing the members the opportunities
they have come to expect. Contact any board member to get involved and take an active role!

Tired of all those satellite dishes littering your property, magically appearing in the middle of the night, and fighting to
get them removed? Jim will explain an exclusive program available to you that will not only remove the unsightly
dishes attached to your siding and roofs, but offer your residents a choice between cable and satellite without compro-
mising your buildings. Highlights of this presentation will include:

• Factors of MDU Vacancy.

• Brief discussion on how having DIRECTV available increases the value of a property.
• Residents demand access to an HDTV solution.
• How technology can provide leasing incentives and increase traffic to your property.
• Telecom act of 1996 and recent FCC rulings say you must allow satellite TV.
• You can still legally get all the renegade dishes off your property by providing an alternative.
• Why not offer the best zero cost solution?

“Fair Housing and Beyond”
September 2, 2009 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
West Des Moines Police Department, 250 Mills Civic Pkwy (E. of 50th St.)

The National Apartment Association Education

Institute (NAAEI) and The Institute of Real Estate
Management (IREM) join forces to enhance fair
housing education among rental housing providers.
NAAEI and IREM have partnered to develop this coursework and education initiative. NAAEI represents the
education and career development division of NAA, while IREM serves as a professional association for manag-
ers of income-producing properties worldwide.
The “Fair Housing and Beyond” seminar was created by subject matter experts from both of the above organiza-
tions. A legal firm specializing in Fair Housing reviewed all course content to insure compliance with Fair Hous-
ing Law.
• Sets new standard in fair housing training
• Uses DVD-delivered scenarios to demonstrate how real-life situations require critical thinking and pru-
dent decision making
• Vividly shows the serious consequences of incorrect responses and provides coaching on how to avoid
costly mistakes
• Delivers relevant knowledge of fair housing essentials – practical explanations of how federal, state, and
local protected classes and barred discriminatory acts impact property operations
Training for:
• Management company executives
• Property and site managers
• Leasing professionals
• Maintenance technicians
• Vendors at your property
