Beneficial effect of homeopathic medicines on breast cancer cells

A recent study published in the International Journal of Oncology has demonstrated the beneficial effects of homeopathic medicines on breast cancer cells. In 1999 the US National Cancer Institute NCI! e"aluated a cancer treatment protocol de"eloped at the #. $aner%i &omeopathic 'esearch (oundation #$&'(! in )ol*ata+ India. ,he -$aner%i protocol. used specific ultra/diluted natural substances to treat patients 0ith different cancers. ,he NCI re"ie0ed 11 patients treated on the $aner%i protocol. In four of the cases 0ith lung and esophageal cancers+ the NCI confirmed partial responses. All patients re"ie0ed had appropriate pathology and imaging studies to confirm diagnosis and response. ,he patients only recei"ed the remedies prescribed at the #$&'( clinic and did not recei"e any additional con"entional treatment+ such as surgery+ radiation+ or chemotherapy. After rigorous e"aluation+ the NCI concluded that there 0as sufficient e"idence of efficacy to 0arrant further research of the $aner%i protocol. Considering the gro0ing interest in $aner%i protocol remedies among patients at the 2.3. Anderson Cancer Center of the Uni"ersity of ,e4as+ most of 0hom ha"e ad"anced breast cancer+ a team of researchers decided to e"aluate the in/"itro effect of those remedies. ,he result of this study has %ust been published in the International Journal of Oncology. ,he study has demonstrated that four ultra/ diluted homeopathic medicines e4erted preferential cytoto4ic effects against t0o breast cancer cell lines 2C(/5 and 23A/2$/671!+ causing cell cycle delay8arrest and apoptosis. ,hese effects 0ere accompanied by altered e4pression of the cell cycle regulatory proteins+ including do0nregulation of phosphorylated 'b and upregulation of the C3) inhibitor p65+ 0hich 0ere li*ely responsible for the cell cycle delay8arrest as 0ell as induction of the apoptotic cascade that manifested in the acti"ation of caspase 5 and clea"age of #A'# in the treated cells.

,he e4periments 0ere conducted in triplicate and repeated at least t0ice in each case of remedy. ,he researchers commented that the homeopathic remedies appeared to ha"e similar acti"ity to the acti"ity of paclita4el ,a4ol!+ the most commonly used chemotherapeutic drug for breast cancer+ 0ithout the to4ic effect on the normal cells. ,he findings demonstrate biological acti"ity of these products 0hen presented at ultra/diluted doses.
