Rotor Weighfeeder Pfister TRW

Highly accurate and reliable gravimetric feeding of coarse, abrasive and hot materials

Whether dosing materials to the coal mill, raw mill or finish mill. The robust design of FLSmidth Pfisters rotor weighfeeder Pfister TRW is ideal for metering coarse bulk materials such as coarse coal, clinker, pre-ground cement, limestone, gypsum, coal etc. with high constancy and precision. Due to the integration of material extraction, weighing and dosing the system is easy to operate and thus extremely reliable.

History
FLSmidth Pfister has more than 110 years of experience in manufacturing group since 1998. The Rotor Weighfeeder technology was invented by FLSmidth Pfister in 1984 to feed pulverised coal to the cement burning process and it is now time tested and state of the art technology. More than 1,700 systems are in operation world-wide. Out of that long experience, FLSmidth Pfister

developed in 1996 the Pfister TRW to feed coarse materials. More then 150 units are successfully in operation world-wide. Further derivates are the Pfister TRW-S for solid secondary fuels and the Pfister TRW-K to feed crushed coal to mills in power plants. Please see extra brochures for these Pfister TRW models.

General Principle
The Pfister TRW is used for extracting coarse bulk material out of a storage silo and feed it with high accuracy to the grinding mill. Because of its robust and all-metal design, it is especially beneficial if used for dosing of hot and abrasive materials such as clinker.

The Function Principle

The Pfister TRW utilises the operation principle of a gravimetric drag chain conveyor which transports the material in a circle and has revolving trough walls. The bulk material is directly extracted from the storage silo and transported from the inlet the rotor wheel
(1) (2)

The high material layer results in a high measuring load, which means that any effects of external disturbance variables can be virtually ignored. At the outlet, the bulk material simply falls out of the feeder by gravity. The gravimetric measuring value provides

Function Principle

The Weighing Electronics ProsCon

The electrical controller calculates the required speed of the motor for the time of the material discharge. It uses the set feedrate and the measured bulk material mass for calculating the angular speed of the rotor (see chart). That means that the speed of the rotor is controlled inverse to the loading of the rotor at the outlet. Less material in the rotor results in a higher angular speed, more material in a lower speed. With this principle, so-called prospective control ProsCon, the rotor weighfeeder achieves a highly accurate compensation of variation in rotor loading and material density. This results in an extremely accurate feedrate with variations of less then 0.5% for short- and longterm.
To achieve highly accurate feeding, the angular speed of rotor is controlled invers to rotor weighfeeder loading.

Benefits
What are the benefits?

Pfister TRW Reduces Wear and Maintenance

Compact design with minimal amount of functional parts. No cleaning necessary. Low wear because of slow speed of the rotor (max. 4 8 rounds per minute). Only wear resistant steel in contact with bulk material, no rubber belt. Only one moving part, the rotor inside. no belt, no pulleys, no idlers. The only axis is additionally purge-air sealed.

Suitability for a wide variety of bulk-materials

Able to handle large lump sizes up to 100 mm because of the large inlet diameter and generous dimensions. Any foreign bodies can easily be removed through the service openings. Insensitive to hot and abrasive materials. (continuous: 200C, peak: 250C)

Feeding Accuracy This results apparently in:

Less maintenance work Easy and simple maintenance Higher reliability Higher efficiency High accuracy because of intelligent controller with proactive control strategy ProsCon. High measuring loads, which are 10 times higher compared to belt weighfeeders. This eliminates external influences. Insensitive to pressure differences in the process. This high accuracy results in exact mixing ratios into the mill.

Designed for long service life.

Benefits

Smart Design
Completely closed and dust tight, an environmental friendly system. Simple and intuitive operation. The rotor weighfeeder is an advanced mechatronic system. However, it is very simple to operate. The communication to the local plant control system is flexible and works absolutely reliable. Integration of material extraction, measuring section, dosing and bulk material transfer in one piece of equipment.

Applications
Modernisation of white clinker feeding to cement mill in France

New Installation: Rotor weighfeeder for hot white cement clinker, directly flanged to the silo outlet. It is possible to feed material with a peak temperature of 250C because only steel parts are in contact with the bulk material. Fading of the paint at the frame proofes extreme temperatures (1).

Old Installation: traditional belt weighfeeder with rubber belt. The customer had to replace the belt regularly. The new Pfister TRW drastically reduced wear and maintenance.
