The Floor Manager and all lighting personnel will make sure that all lights hanging from the grid have both pins and safety chains attached at all times. Also Hard Hats will be worn by anybody working in the studio when lights are being moved or changed. Staff and students will make sure that anyone climbing the ladder must ensure that a second person is supporting the ladder at the base. Also Hard Hats must be worn. The Floor Manager will ensure that fire lanes are kept free of any obstruction at all times The Floor Manager will ensure that cables crossing fire lanes are suitably covered, and that any other equipment is not left in a position that could cause someone to trip over it.

If any light is found to be without a pin or safety chain, the studio must be evacuated immediately and Howard Austen informed. No one must use the electric hoist unless properly trained and supervised by a tutor

Electrical Hoist Anyone working on the hoist Medium Hard Hats MUST be worn. Ties, ID holder lanyards, or anything else that might get tangled in the operating controls should be removed. Tutors must make sure that anyone working on the electric hoist has been trained in its use. Because some of the studio lights get extremely hot, protective gloves should be worn. Low

ALL electrical appliances used in the TV studio must have an up to date PAT test label. The Floor Manager and tutor responsible will ensure that all persons using the studio have been given a fire drill induction, and know what to do if there is an alarm, and where the fire exits are. If Stroboscopic Lights are to be used, a warning notice should be placed on the outside of the studio doors. If smoke machines are used, the Floor Manager and Producer should check if any crew members or guests are asthma sufferers, and advise them of the use of the smoke machine. Producers, Directors and Floor Managers should make sure that sufficient breaks are scheduled for crew and guests to take food and water. Also see Obstructions above
