5.0. TYPES OF HARDWARE TO SUPPORT PERSONAL COMPUTER.

5.1 Security Hardware
Computer security can takes two forms. Software security provides barriers and other cyber-tools that protect programs, files, and the information flow to and from a computer. Hardware security protects the machine and peripheral hardware from theft and from electronic intrusion and damage. Physical on-site security can be as easy as confining mission-critical computers to a locked room, and restricting access to only those who are authorized. This also holds for servers, which are computers that function as a central routing point for information to and from the networked computers and the Internet. Many personal computer users pay to have this service provided by an Internet service provider (ISP). However, having an out-side provider can generate security threats and can be disruptive if the ISP ceases operation. Nowadays, many corporations opt to establish an in-house ISP. In this way the security of the corporate server is under direct control.

5.2 NETWORKING HARDWARE

Network hardware is the individual components of a network system that are responsible for transmitting data and facilitating the operations of a computer network. Although a network contains many hardware components, there are several basic categories that make up the complete operations of a network system. 5.2.1. Types of networking hardware : i. Network Router A network router is a hardware device that is connected to multiple channels for different networks through an interface that is situated on each network. The router is usually located within the layers of a network that determine the path for the transfer of data with the router acting as a processing unit for information packets. The router duplicates information packets for use during transmission from one network to another. The router uses a specific protocol or set of rules to determine which information packets are to be routed to certain interfaces within the network.

Network Interface Card

Network interface cards are used to connect each computer to the network so they can communicate with the network router to receive information packets. The interface cards determine the infrastructure of a local area network (LAN) and allow all of the computers to connect to the network. There are many different types of network interface cards that perform different functions within the network which include Ethernet cards and wireless network interface cards. a. KF-221FXMC Fiber Optic- 100Mbit Fiber NIC, Multimode, SC, 2KM -Price: $100.75/ RM308.30 Main network infrastructures like tier 1 and 2 Internet backbones need more controlling NICs. Fiber optic NICs consume fiber optic cabling to achieve speeds of 10 gigabits per second, with a requirement below review to push this limit to 100 gigabits per second. These NICs are frequently, though not always, exterior devices that attach to servers or workstations by an inter-networking plane which gives a lower connective speed 100 Mb/s. This adapter features fiber connectors for a 100 Mbps IEEE 802.3u Ethernet network connection over optical fiber cable. The series provides different fiber transceiver types supporting short, middle, and long reach applications. SPECIFICATION Details

5.2.2. OTHER NETWORKING CONNECTIONS

5.2.2.1. Network Switches Network switches work similar to routers because they both copy information from one area of the network to the other. However, network switches contain multiple ports for copying frames of information from one port to the other. Like routers, switches operate within the layers of a network and evaluate every frame before determining the port in which the frame should be copied. Network switches are more sophisticated then their predecessor the network hub, which copied all frames to all ports instead of determining individual destinations. This required more bandwidth than what is required with network switches. 5.2.2.2. Network Bridge A network bridge divides traffic on a local area network by separating the LAN into several different segments. It is also responsible for filtering data by determining the data destination or discarding unnecessary data. Network bridges operate within the layers of the network and also control the data that crosses the boundaries from one local area network to the other. 5.2.2.3. Network Hubs Hubs are one of the most basic pieces of networking equipment available. Physically a hubs is a box with a number of RJ45 ports ( typically between 4 and 32) that allows you to connect several networking devices together using twisted pair (CAT 5) network cable. Hubs have no intelligence meaning they cannot be programmed or have a memory of devices that are plugged into its ports. They are quite suitable for small network but tend to perform poorly on large networks. Hubs typically come in both standards (10 Mbps) and Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) version. 5.2.2.4. Network Gateways Gateways are able to connect networks that use completely different protocol or data formats, such as a LAN to a mainframe. Generally a gateways is a combination of hardware and software with a built-in processing power necessary to perform protocol conversions. A gateways is lower than a bridge or router.

IMS455

Page 17

IMS455-KINDERGARDEN LABORATORY 5.2.2.5. Networks Modems

December 17, 2012

Modems (MODulator DEModulator) convert data between the analog form used on telephone lines and the digital form used on computers. ADSL modems- (also called ADSL routers) are used on many networks to provide the required connectivity to the Internet. ADSL modems are popular choice for connecting small- to medium size organizational networks to the Internet using an established ISP.

5.3.

MULTIMEDIA DEVICES

There are several types of media, including video, audio, and text. A multimedia device allows a person to deal with a variety of these media while eliminating the need to have a separate device for each. There are numerous tasks that may be accomplished on these devices, such as creating, editing, and transferring files. Many of these devices are compatible with computers, which allows them to be easily dealt with in ways that may not otherwise be possible. Media is generally defined as a form of communication. Documents, music, and video clips are all common types of communication. People are increasingly interested in dealing with media in easier and faster ways. This has led to the development of a wide range of multimedia devices, which allow a person to create and access various types of media files on a single device. Examples of a multimedia device include a memory card, a tablet computer, and an MP3 player. A multimedia device can allow a person to accomplish a wide range of tasks. To begin with, a person may need to develop communication. This can be done by typing a document, taking a picture, or producing a video. Once this is done, individuals may want to save these items. Later, they may want to access them again and alter them. There is also a possibility that a person will want to transfer media files from one device to another or share them with someone else. It is important to understand that a device does not have to facilitate every type of media for it to be defined as multimedia. Many devices are also limited in the fact that they allow only certain types of tasks to be completed with each type of media. For instance, a memory card can store several types of media and allow it to be accessed numerous times, but it is not a device that can be used to produce media files. This must be done on another multimedia device, such as a laptop. As two of the primary goals of these devices are consolidation and convenience, individuals are increasingly buying small electronics that can also serve as portable multimedia devices. A prime example is a cellular phone. These devices tend to offer users more media capabilities as newer versions are released. Like cellular phones, most modern multimedia devices have rechargeable batteries, though a small number may still use replaceable batteries. Many also have the ability to be connected to a computer so that media can be stored directly on them. IMS455 Page 18

6.0. SOFTWARE TO BE DEPLOYED IN EACH PERSONAL COMPUTER

6.1. Operation System
An operating system or OS is a software program that enables the computer hardware to communicate and operate with the computer software. Without a computer operating system, a computer and software programs would be useless. 6.1.1. Operating system types As computers have progressed and developed so have the operating systems. Below is a basic list of the different operating systems and a few examples of operating systems that fall into each of the categories. Many computer operating systems will fall into more than one of the below categories. a. GUI Short for Graphical User Interface, a GUI Operating System contains graphics and icons and is commonly navigated by using a computer mouse. b. Multi-user A multi-user operating system allows for multiple users to use the same computer at the same time and different times. c. Multiprocessing An operating system capable of supporting and utilizing more than one computer processor. d. Multitasking An operating system that is capable of allowing multiple software processes to run at the same time. e. Multithreading Operating systems that allow different parts of a software program to run concurrently

Operating System used:

6.2.1. WINDOWS 7 Windows 7 is more than just spin. It's stable, smooth, and highly polished, introducing new graphical features, a new taskbar that can compete handily with the Mac OS X dock, and device management and security enhancements that make it both easier to use and safer. Importantly, it won't require the hardware upgrades that Vista demanded, partially because the hardware has caught up, and partially because Microsoft has gone to great lengths to make Windows 7 accessible to as many people as possible. It's important to note that the public testing process for Windows 7 involved one limited-availability beta and one release candidate, and constituted what some have called the largest shareware trial period ever. As buggy and irritating as Vista was, Windows 7 isn't. Instead, it's the successor to Windows XP that Microsoft wishes Vista had been, and finally places it on competitive footing with other major operating systems like OS X and Linux. Microsoft is offering six versions of Windows 7: Starter, Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, OEM, and Enterprise. The three versions that Redmond will be promoting most heavily are Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate, although Starter will also be available to consumers. Windows 7 will support both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. The bare minimum requirements for the 32-bit include a 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB available hard-disk space, and a DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver. 64-bit systems will require at least a 1 GHz processor, 2GB RAM, 20GB of free space on your hard drive, and a DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver. A touch-screen monitor is required to take advantage of the native touch features. Do note that some users have claimed to have limited success running the Windows 7 beta with less than 1GB of RAM, but that's not recommended.

Special Features: a. Taskbar and Aero Peek

Although the look of Windows 7 may seem to be nothing more than some polish applied liberally to the Vista Aero theme, make no mistake: This is a full replacement operating system, and more than just "Vista done right." From driver support to multi-touch groundwork for the future, from better battery management to the most easy-to-use interface Microsoft has ever had, Windows 7 is hardly half-baked.

IMS455

Page 28

IMS455-KINDERGARDEN LABORATORY

December 17, 2012

The first thing that should stand out is the new taskbar. This is one of the best improvements Microsoft has made--third-party program dock makers are going to have to do some serious innovation when Windows 7 goes public. Besides incorporating the translucent style of Aero, the new taskbar is arguably even better than the Mac OS X dock. It features pinned programs using large, easy-to-see icons. Mouse over one and all windows associated with that program appear in preview. Mouse over one of those preview panes to reveal an X to close the window. Hover over the preview to show a full-size preview of the program, or click on the window to bring it to the front. Because of the button size, people with touch screens should find it especially easy to use. Jump lists are another new taskbar improvement that make recently opened documents easier to get to. Right-click or left-click and drag on any program icon pinned to the taskbar to see a list of files that you've recently used in that program. In Internet Explorer, this will show recently visited Web sites, although it doesn't yet seem to work in Firefox. If you've noticed the missing Show Desktop icon, that's because it's been baked into the taskbar itself. Mouse over to the right corner. Hovering over the Show Desktop box reveals the desktop, and then hides it when you mouse away. Click on the box to minimize all your programs.

Aero Peek shows the desktop when you hover over the right edge of the toolbar, and is also an option in the program-switching hot key Alt+Tab. Resizing programs has been simplified and improved by the capability to drag a window's title bar. Drag a program window to the top of your monitor to expand it to full screen. If you want to work in two windows simultaneously, drag one to the left edge and one to the right edge of your screen, and they'll automatically resize to half the width of your monitor. Dragging a program away from the top or sides will return it to its original size. This is an entirely new feature in Windows 7, but it should prove easy to adopt because it mimics and expands on the maximize/restore button that people have been resizing windows with since Windows 95. Theme packages also make it much faster to change the look of Windows 7. From the Control Panel, you can change the theme under Appearance and Personalization. Microsoft has created several theme packages to give people a taste for what the feature can do. Click on one to download it, and it instantly changes the color scheme and background--no need to reboot. Users can create their own themes, as well.

b. Windows Media Player and Device Stage One of the biggest new features makes Windows Media Player useful again: you can now stream media files from one Windows 7 computer to another, across the Internet and out of network. Even better, the setup procedure is dead simple. When you open Windows Media Player, there's a new Stream option on the toolbar. Click it, and you're presented with two choices. Both require you to associate your computer with your free Windows Live ID. When you've associated a second Windows 7's WMP with that same ID, you can remotely access the media on the host computer. Windows Media Player's mini mode looks much slicker, emphasizing the album art--sometimes at the expense of clearly seeing the controls, but it's a definite improvement.

6.3. SECURITY SOFTWARE

Security software is computer software which is designed to enhance security for an individual computer or for a computer network. This software is meant to be used as part of a total security plan, rather than as a standalone security measure. Numerous software companies make security products, ranging from freeware which can be downloaded by individual computer users to specialty programs designed for particular networks, such as those used to store information for governments. Security software can serve a number of security functions. Some programs are designed for a single and specific purpose, such as spyware removal, while others can accomplish several functions. Security software is used to establish firewalls, to detect and remove viruses, to secure information on a network, to detect attacks on a computer or network, and so forth. As a general rule, it runs all the time, providing background protection, and users can also run utilities to scan their computers for specific computer threats. Such software can also be used for access filtering. With some computers and networks, access filtering may be desired to keep people away from sites which could threaten security, such as sites which automatically start downloads of malicious code. Access filtering may also be utilized to ensure that people in the workplace only access work-appropriate sites, and to protect young computer users such as children from material which could be threatening or dangerous.

Bitdefender's Rescue Mode is a truly impressive feature. It boots the system into an alternate operating system, with a Rescue CD. The user doesn't need to download anything and doesn't need to burn a CD, but the effect is exactly the same. The user interface within the Rescue Mode is streamlined, but there's still room to improve its ease of use. AV-Comparatives runs two kinds of file-based malware detection tests. The regular test checks how many samples the product can detect in its default configuration, while the retrospective test forces the product to use old malware definitions, checking its ability to detect new threats. In both tests, Bitdefender rated ADVANCED+, the highest rating. AV-Test rates antivirus tools on three real-world criteria: repair of infested systems, protection against new attacks, and overall usability. A product can receive up to six points in each category, with a total of 11 needed for certification. In tests under Windows XP and Windows 7, Bitdefender received an impressive 17 of 18 possible points. AV-Comparatives also tests real-world protection, daily challenging products to defend against brand-new threats over a period of months. Bitdefender took an ADVANCED+ rating in this test as well.

b. Pros Preinstall scan smooths installation. Alternate OS Rescue Mode Scan doesn't require CD burning. Excellent results in independent lab tests and in our own malware cleanup tests. Very good malware blocking and phishing protection. Secure browser for financial transactions. Facebook and Twitter protection. Full remote management. c. Specification Type OS Compatibility Tech Support : Business, Personal, Professional : Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 7 : 24/7 email, phone and chat support.

OTHER UTILITIES SOFTWARE

6.5.1. WinRAR WinRAR can create multiple-volume archives (popular with file sharers) and use 128-bit AES encryption to password-protect them. Like most of its competition, it also has an option to hide file names inside an encrypted archive: someone without the password won't even see what files you've archived, let alone view their contents. In our maximum-compression tests, WinRAR 3.61 archived our files faster than most competitors; except for StuffIt Standard 9.5. Though we found .rar archives to be smaller than conventional .zip 2.0 archives, they weren't as small as .7z files created by PowerArchiver 2006 and ZipGenius 6 Standard or .zip files created with WinZip 11's new Best Method option. Like most other file compression programs. WinRAR can also compress .zip 2.0 files, hide file names, and split archives into multiple files of userdefinable size. 6.5.2. Bing Toolbar Bing from your browser with a toolbar that keeps email, Facebook, and more just a click away. 6.5.3. Download languages Find out how you can install additional languages for Windows. 6.5.4. Silverlight Get the free web-browser plug-in for interactive media experiences, business apps, and immersive mobile apps. 6.5.5. Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 A collection of games and applications for your Windows touch-enabled PC, including Blackboard, Surface Globe, and Collage. 6.5.6. Microsoft Safety Scanner Help protect your PC and remove malicious software (including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom).

7.0. THE ARCHITECTURE OF NETWORKING FOR THE LAB.

BUS TOPOLOGY DIAGRAM

Bus topology is the simplest of network topologies. In this types of topology, all the nodes are connected to the single cable, by the help of interface connectors. The central cable is the backbone of the network and is known as Bus. Every workstation communicates with the other devices through this Bus. The advantages of Linear Bus Topology is easy to set-up and extend bus network. The cable length required for this topology is the least compared to other networks and it cost is very less. Linear Bus network is mostly used in small network which means it is good for LAN. We have chosen Bus network topology for our kindergarten. This is because we does not have a lot of personal computer. Beside that, Bus topology is suitable for network with not heavy traffic. We use routers as networks connector because it is more sophisticated network devices compared to either a network hub or a network switch. Routers are typically small, box-like pieces of equipment that multiple computers can connect too. Each features a number of ports on the front or back of the unit that provide the connection for electric power, and a number of LED lights to display device status. While routers, hubs and switches all share similar physical appearance, routers differ substantially in their inner workings.

9.0. THE STRENGHT OF THE LABORATORY

In our kindergarten lab, we choose round table with three chair and each of the table have three computer for students usage. The main reason why we choose round table is because of its safety for the students. Other than that, there will be more space on the table to put the computer, including the student belonging. The gaps between every table in the lab are suitable for the students to move around the computer area. This will make them feel more free to move and more comfort to study. We also put the printer at the back of the lab for teachers and students usage. In front of the lab, we put a large screen with projector, so that the teacher can used it during learning lesson, and the students can pay more attention because they can see more clearly what the teacher are talking about with the help of the projector. At each side of the corner in front of the lab, we put the closets to place the teachers items on the right side. On the left side of the corner, there also will be a closets for the students to place their items. Overall, the arrangement in the lab are suitable for the students and they will be more focus to study in the computer lab.

10.0. CONCLUSION
We have provide complete facilities and advanced technology to children to entice them to learn using the latest technology. Therefore, the child will be more interested in learning and exploring new knowledge in the field of technology. An early exposure to the advances usage of technology are very positive impact for children because it will not experience to face the techno-phobia. Therefore, kindergarten is the most basic place to give information on the usage of the latest technology and can be practiced by children in kindergarten or at home. In kindergarten children also can learn and explore on their own about what is o the computer have because they are given the opportunity to use computers individually. Learning while using technology is help more compared to learning manually. We hope the latest technological innovations that we put into this assignment can provide some information for others to improve kindergarten in our country.
