Monday, October 21, 2013: Ubuntu is a Linux OS that is widely used but like is the case with many OSes, it also has its share of shortcomings. These can be done away with by following the steps that have been outlined below.

As cited on sites.google.com, lets take a look at them one by one below 1. Select Windows as the first choice in the Grub boot menu - You can do this by ensuring that you have both gksu and leafpad installed. -Then you need to click on the grey Ubuntu logo (Dash home). Query: terminal and click on Terminal. -Then you need to type (or copy/paste): sudo apt-get install gksu leafpad. You need to press Enter and enter your password. The password will not be visible without the asterisks. - You need to then type in the terminal (use copy/paste):gksudo leafpad /etc/default/grub and press Enter. You can make changes GRUB_DEFAULT (the default boot line). The default boot line is 0 as Grub begins counting with 0 and not with 1. For instance: if Windows is at line 5 in your Grub menu then you need to make the 0 into 4: GRUB_DEFAULT=4. - You can save and close the configuration file and apply the change: in the terminal (use copy/paste): sudo update-grub. -You need to press Enter and put in your password: your password is not visible and press Enter again. 2. Forgot password: what to do - You need to boot your computer into Recovery Mode (second option in the Grub Menu), and select the terminal (root). - Mount the file system read-write. Type (note the spaces in the command!): mount -n -o remount,rw / and press Enter. - Ensure you type the command correctly, as its easy to commit errors with the spaces in the command.
