comunicação móvel:
uma idéia MUITO antiga
…Isaacs foresees the day, not far distant, when pocket wireless telephones will be in wide
use. A business man's secretary, walking along the street, Isaacs says, will hear a bell
ring in his pocket, will put a receiver to his ear and hear "his master's voice" give him
instructions, probably from an airplane hundreds of miles away.
The Daily Mail says that the British government probably will compel all commercial
airplanes and airships to carry wireless telephone or telegraph equipment. Larger
machines of both types may be compelled to carry both.
infra-estrutura
Livermore Data System model LAP-2000, circa 1982. Self contained mobile telephony before cellular. Unit
weighs 18 pounds, has only 11 channels, puts out 30 watts, and measures battery life in minutes.
Today's mobiles weigh a half pound or less, can work a thousand frequencies, often use less than a watt to
reach the base station, and can go for days on a charge. Few cities had 11 channels operating, most small
cities just one, San Francisco four, Los Angeles thirteen. Long waits to make calls were common yet
demand so great that multi-year waiting lists existed in every major city…

Three hundred years of technology
came to an end after World War II.
During those three centuries the model for
technology was a mechanical one: the events
that go on inside a star such as the sun.
This period began when an otherwise almost
unknown French physicist, Denis Papin,
envisaged the steam engine around 1680.
