number is 151 in 2012. Among the age group of 14-18 years during the same period it is 27 and 177. In a more bizarre revelation, the report said that 2 per cents of the total crime was committed by their own relatives while 15 per cent were their neighbours during the year 2012. In this regard, RunumiGogoi, chairperson of Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) said that this is a serious issue and it will be discussed thoroughly during the two-day state level consultation programme to be held in Guwahati.
While, the activists and common people feel that besides the government, civil society and media has also a role to play in this regard. Yes, the government has failed to protect to some extent but we have to look beyond that. Even the civil society and media have also a role to play. Media has to be more careful to publish or telecast such type of news. The civil society people have to create an environment so that women and children can feel safe, said activist and author MainiMahanta. Besides, Assam is also one of the top states as far as crime against women is concern.

is a Muslim colony and theirs is not? quips Subedar Shaikh, a retired railway employee living in Sajid Row Houses. Unauthorised They came to live here in 1998, but out of the blue the AMC declared this reserved land for public purposes in 2004, and so our colony has now become unauthorised, he says. The AMC would not even include the society under its impact fee scheme that envisages regularising
unauthorised constructions for a fee, points out Shabbir Shaikh. We are ready with all legal procedures completed but they would just not listen to us. Wasim Ansari, a local BJP leader for the last 15 years, counters this. This problem is not restricted to Maqdoomnagar. It exists in all illegal Muslim colonies in
Ahmedabad because of the nexus between the Muslim builder mafia and Congress councillors. They set up illegal societies without providing any facilities and later leave the residents to fend for themselves. Look at the Hindu builders and the colonies they build. They are so well laidout with all facilities. It is not right to blame the ruling party and give a communal angle to this, he argues. What Mr. Ansari says, however, is only the partial truth, what with illegal constructions having proliferated across the city over the years irrespective of which community built them. Senior Congress leader J.V. Momin points out: By the AMCs own admission, there are as many as five lakh unauthorised constructions in Ahmedabad alone and most are in so-called posh Hindu areas. Regularising many of them is easier than doing so with those in Muslim areas. Illegal buildings cannot come up overnight without the connivance of officials and rulers of the AMC. What were they doing? And now this discrimination, he says. Come to Alifnagar in Vatwa, where people veritably live in the middle of garbage, slush and potholes full of turbid water. Forget gutter lines, water supply or garbage clearance. The AMC does not even conduct any fumigation in the area, says

They worry he would exacerbate sectarian tensions that have subsided somewhat in the last decade, it said noting that in 2002, rioters savagely killed nearly 1,000 people, most of whom were part of the Muslim minority in Gujarat. India is a country with multiple religions, more than a dozen major languages and numerous ethnic groups and tribes, the Times said. Mr. Modi cannot hope to lead it effectively if he inspires fear and antipathy among many of its people.
Modi has been denied a US visa since 2005 for his alleged role or inaction during the 2002 riots. Supporters of Modi, the Times noted argue that an investigation commissioned by Indias Supreme Court cleared him of wrongdoing in the riots. And they insist that Mr. Modi, who is widely admired by middleclass Indians for making Gujarat one of Indias fastest-growing states, can revive the economy. But Modis strident Hindu nationalism has fuelled public
case for instance, they (investigative agencies) concentrated mainly on the Malayalam speaking Muslims, especially from Ernakulam - Kochi area and now in this case, they have targeted the Tamil speaking Muslims. Muslims who are either engaged in helping the victims of state terrorism or are involved in any socio-economic activities directed towards uplifting their community, are being targeted. Peer Mohideen, Saddam Hussain and Tenkasi Haneefa were subjected to third degree torture and forced confessions, their ordeal continued for six months and despite that, the police could not fit them in any angle and had to let them out of the charge sheet. The only evidence against them was, that they were Muslims and the corroborating evidence was that they were involved in some social activities. So, whoever tries to help their community in anyway, are termed as terrorists. How do individuals, who are
outrage, the daily said recalling his incendiary response to a question from a British news agency whether he regretted the killings in 2002. Modi has shown no ability to work with opposition parties or tolerate dissent, the Times said. His economic record in Gujarat is not entirely admirable, either, it said noting, Muslims in Gujarat, for instance, are much more likely to be poor than Muslims in India as a whole, even though the state has a lower poverty rate than the country.
absolutely innocent, get framed in such cases? What happens, is if any of their family members or friends were accused in any case, for instance here, a lot of them, had some of their friends or relatives, who were accused in the 1993 Coimbatore blast case; let me emphasize this, accused not convicted, so there was a familial link established, because of which they got framed. This is not the first time that a person arrested on charges of alleged terrorism, was released for lack of evidence, do you think, there is a deliberate attempt to frame people in such cases? For the fascist forces to militarize a society, they need to blame a particular community and in India, they blame the Muslims. Even during the colonial rule, they never fought the British, but targeted Muslims instead. Today, war on terror, is a world phenomenon and though it is an American framework, the Indian fascists and corporates also follow the same pattern.

By Shaik Zakeer Hussain Bangalore: When a low intensity bomb exploded on April 17, about 100 meters away from the Karnataka BJP headquarter in Malleswaram, Bangalore, the incident was termed an act of terror and eventually ended up in the arrest of 11 suspects, all belonging to the Muslim community. Six months later, the First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrates Court, ordered the release of three persons arrested by the police in the case. Peer Mohideen, Saddam Hussain and Tenkasi Haneefa were discharged from the charges. While Mohideen was released on Tuesday, Hussain and Haneefa will be handed over to the Tamil Nadu police, for their alleged role in another case. In this Interview with TCNS Shaik Zakeer Hussain, S. Balan, the lawyer for the acquitted, talks on the whole trial. Advocate S. Balan Three of the accused you represented were discharged of the alleged terror charges against them, are you happy with the outcome? This is not the question of being happy, this outcome proves that a particular community is blamed or projected as terrorists. Their cases were dropped, because the investigating agencies could not collect any material against them. What was the prima facie behind the arrests of Peer Mohideen and other accused in this case? There wasnt any. Whenever a blast takes place, the agencies proceed in a certain direction, there is a particular modus operandi or pattern behind these types of cases. In 2008 blast
