INSIGHTS NSTP (National Service Training Program) is an academic curriculum that aims to enhance the civic consciousness and defense preparedness in the youth by developing the ethics of service and patriotism. In what I have learn in the previous session, NSTP has three components: (1) Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC)- this program provide military training to 1st year college students in order to train, organize and mobilize them for the defense preparedness. (2) Literacy Training Service (LTS)- this program is to train 1st year college students to become teachers of literacy and numeracy skills to school children, out of school youth, and other segments of society in need of their service. (3) Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) this program refers of activities contributory to the general welfare and the improvement of life for the members of the community or the enhancement of its facilities, such as those devoted to improving health, education, environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation and morals of the citizenry. According to the NSTP law, NSTP is required in all tertiary level students. They need to complete this curriculum in two semesters. NSTP1 is on first semester and NSTP2 is on the next semester. In order to proceed in the next semester, you need to complete 54-90 hours in one semester. NSTP training shall be given emphasis in all three program components: TESDA, CHED, and DND. I was able to know some people who join the CWTS because Maam Umblero tasked us to do so. So, I meet some people from the annex campus, other section of my courses and other courses in the main campus. I also learned the values in the Philippine Constitution of 1987. These are makadiyos, makatao, makabayan, makakalikasan. Each of them has values. In makadiyos, we have faith in Almighty God, respect for life, order, work, and concern for the family and future generations. In makatao, it is love, freedom, peace, truth, justice. In makabayan, we have unity, equality, respect for the law and Govt., promotion of the common good and patriotism. In makakalikasan, it is to conserve the environment. I encounter the basic values of the Filipino people enshrined in the 1978 Philippine constitution. I learned that Freedom is nothing or everything. It isnt what you want to be or what you want to have. We can commit freedom when other has

it. I learned also that we can attain peace if it we did it within ourselves. We can only achieve peace if we give up ourselves to the hands of God for he is satisfaction. Global warming the recent increase in the world's temperature that is believed to be caused by the increase of certain gases (such as carbon dioxide) in the atmosphere. The effects of global warming is the melting of ice, dry lands, harmful UV rays enter the earth, and ozone depletion. The cause is the greenhouse gases. In order to prevent global warming, we must keep in mind the 3Rs which is reduce, reuse, and recycle. We need to reduce our waste, reuse the used materials, and recycled the used or waste materials. We must be responsible of what we have destroyed. I learned that the Philippines is prone to earthquakes and tsunami because we are under in the pacific ring of fire where the platonic plate are place. We must not assume that we can predict these earthquake and tsunami events because we actually dont know when it will happen. To keep our self-safe in earthquakes, we must shelter ourselves in furniture or its equivalent. In tsunamis, we must go away to the seashore. I learned about drugs and its pros and cons. The advantage of drugs is to heal our body systems, specifically our nervous systems IF IT IS PRESCRIBED BY THE DOCTOR. But the usage without the prescription by the doctor is illegal. This is violating to the law. If a person caught using illegal drugs, he will be imprisoned and penalized depend on the number of offences. Water is the essential factor in order for us to survive. Since more than half of our water is dirty and it our time to conserve it. The government implement the clean water act where littering materials in the water is strictly prohibited. Anyone who violates the law will be imprisoned and will pay the penalty. Our water is in its endangered state and we must restore the clean nature of water. I also learned that there are 4 types of waste material. These are biodegradable (decomposed materials), non-biodegradable (nondecomposed material), recyclable ( can be used materials), and special ( home materials). We need to segregate our waste because they are the reason why many cities in the world experience flood. So to lessen the flood events, we should segregate. A law was implemented related to segregation of waste which is the ecological solid waste management. Violating this law will cause to pay the penalty and imprisonment. The red cross team told us the difference of HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) and AIDS (Acquired immune deficiency syndrome or acquired

immunodeficiency syndrome). HIV is the infection that causes AIDS, has few or no symptoms for up to 10 years or more before symptoms of AIDS develop, and there is no cure for HIV/AIDS, but treatment is available. There are several stages of HIV disease. The first HIV symptoms may include swollen glands in the throat, armpit, or groin. Other early HIV symptoms include slight fever, headaches, fatigue, and muscle aches. These symptoms may last for only a few weeks. Then there are usually no HIV symptoms for many years. That is why it can be hard to know if you have HIV. s a disease caused by a virus called HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). The illness alters the immune system, making people much more vulnerable to infections and diseases. This susceptibility worsens as the disease progresses. HIV is found in the body fluids of an infected person (semen and vaginal fluids, blood and breast milk). The virus is passed from one person to another through blood-to-blood and sexual contact. In addition, infected pregnant women can pass HIV to their babies during pregnancy, delivering the baby during childbirth, and through breast feeding. To prevent HIV, Don't share personal items that may have blood on them. This includes toothbrushes, razors, needles for piercing or tattooing, and blades for cutting or scarring. If you choose to have sex, have safer sex to reduce the risk of exchanging blood, semen, or vaginal fluids with your sex partner(s).
