Introduction to the DAC Bearing Maintenance Trainer

General Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the DAC Bearing Maintenance Trainer, #204. This, training device is one of a series of task-based training devices relating to basic industrial maintenance skills manufactured by Design Assistance Corporation. This device and its accompanying training materials have been developed based on the fundamental proposition that skilled workers learn most effectively with their hands. The associated materials are designed so that the training aids can be used in three ways: as a stand-alone, self-directed course; as a testing/assessment tool; or as a laboratory trainer used as a supplement to an instructor-lead course incorporating related material developed by others. Based on this, the manual has been broken into three distinct sections that can be used together as a complete course, or in parts, to satisfy the specific needs of users.

Bearing Maintenance Introduction

About the Use Guide

The Use Guide is designed to provide the user with basic information regarding the components provided, preliminary assembly needs, the function of primary features, maintenance/care, and optional equipment. This information is provided as a foundation for the exercises, and to facilitate use in other ways. The Use Guide also includes a technical illustration of the device as a reference for identifying the components that will be used in The Link and in the Exercises.

About The Link

The Link is a course outline that can be used as an instructor outline, or as a performance guide for a self-directed course incorporating the DAC training devices, exercises, related background reading in a textbook, and activities related to optional accessories such as videos. This outline is provided in a format that allows companies to easily add or delete activities based on local needs. The Link can be provided on disk, at nominal cost, to allow for customization based on specific training requirements.

About the Exercise Guide

Based on DACs philosophy of hands-on learning, we consider the exercises the most important element in our training system. All exercises are designed to act as stand-alone learning experiences that create measurable outcomes based on specific performance conditions, criteria, and standards. All necessary background competencies (background reading, prerequisite hands-on competencies, and applicable terminology) are referenced in each exercise. Each exercise can be used independently to address a specific training need. In this way the exercises can be used as an adjunct to courses developed by others, or as a complete system customized to the unique needs of the user. It should be noted that The Link addresses a core group of generic foundation exercises. The exercise list provided in the table of contents may include exercises beyond those used in The Link. These exercises have limited appeal due to their limited application, their need for optional equipment, and the fact that they may duplicate the content of other exercises. These exercises are available at extra cost. In addition to the exercises provided, we are always interested in writing new exercises based on your specific training needs or unique equipment. Please call should this service be of interest.
