iteracy Volunteers of Morris County is pleased to announce a generous gift of $1,000 from the Morristown Rotary to provide materials to support its adult literacy program. Literacy Volunteers of Morris County promotes increased literacy and fluency in English for adult learners through the use of volunteers and support staff. The organization currently has approximately 500 students and 300 tutors. About ninety percent of those in the program are learning to speak English as a second language. The balance of the students are English speakers who are functionally illiterate, and need to improve their ability to read and write. The students may be unable to handle everyday tasks such as opening a checking account, complete a job application, understand a prescription drug label, or read to their child. Asking for help can be a terrifying and humiliating experience for an adult. Through Literacy Volunteers, students from all walks of life may attend free, one-one-one or group classes to improve their English language skills in a welcom-

Morristown Resident/Film Series Producer Partners With Rolling Stone Magazine Critic For Brand New Simulcast Event
individuals get interested in their films. He said news of this film series event ran in all the trade magazines and "this is now a line item in all their marketing considerations." Ehrenkranz said he is excited that this simulcast cast event is new, and that this kind of live event, with Rolling Stone Magazine Critic Peter Travers, "has never been done." Ehrenkranz said he started on the production side of the film industry and he later became more "hungry for creative expression." As a result he started the NY Film Critics Series, which has been in existence for 18 years. The New York Film Critics Series website promises that moviegoers now will "get the scoop before anyone else on brand new films before they are released. You dont have to be an expert to enjoy behind-the-scenes stories about Hollywood and Indie Cinema from some of the greats. Past series highlights have included special appearances by: Woody Harrelson, Anne Heche, Frank Langella, Paul Sorvino, Danny Aiello, Alan Arkin , John Turturro, Steve Buscemi, Anne Meara, Aidan Quinn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Sigourney Weaver, and many others." The movies in the screening series will be preceded by footage in New York City and a live introduction by Travers, and audiences will then see award-winning films prior to their release followed by live-HD, behind-the-scene footage with live question and answer sessions between Travers, audiences and stars from the films. By Ejvind Boccolini Morristown resident has created a nationwide simulcast film series event that is being considered an evolution in film marketing. New York Film Critics Series (NYFCS) Producer Mark Ehrenkranz said in a phone interview last month that members of the public can now see the best independent films before they are released. They can also have a better connection with the directors and stars of these films, and that this is the word-of-mouth vehicle for the success of the film. As described on the website, http://www.nyfilmcriticsseries.com/, "up until now, live talent has only been accessible to the public in New York , Los Angeles and at festivals. Now everyone throughout the country can enjoy up close and personal moments from major movie stars, producers, writers and directors in the comfort of their own neighborhood theaters." "Preview screenings have been offered before, but never with a live conversation component. This, in addition to a curated selection of films, will allow filmgoers to see the better independent movies before anyone else with exclusive insight into the production from the creators via live, national, HD broadcast in theaters throughout the US." Just the idea sounds not only exciting, but definitely new. Ehrenkranz, also the producer of full-length feature film called Turbulent Souls, said in the phone interview last month that directors must be in touch constantly to have

nationwide audiences may experience firsthand the stars and directors via HD broadcast." It adds that, "This is the first ever live national screening series which will entertain, educate, surprise, and refresh the spirit of true independent and foreign language filmmaking through provocative story-telling. The NYFCS is dedicated to producing inspiring events in a collaborative environment and to nurturing the long-term success of the better, smarter movies. Featuring an energetic, creative, and experienced team, the NYFCS exhibits socially and culturally relevant films with live world-class talent in the best independent theaters throughout the US." guages include Axiom of Quest, or a persons mission during his or her lifetime, and the purpose of every individual; Axiom of Translation, or how the individual can be described as by other people and how an individuals Soul Agenda is combined with human expression; and Tone, which is the personality of the individual. Of all three Languages, Tone is the one that is typically most noticeable for other people. The book explores these various parts of the Soul, including how to work out of a place of awareness and consciousness. Urezzio says that inspiration for the book came from the simple fact that she wanted to live a better life, including understanding herself and connecting with others. In her search for a better life, she ultimately formed the core lessons and values of Soul Language. The process of writing the book led to many new discoveries for the author, who notes that, The Soul is very complex. Humans are very complex, and there is always more to discover. Over time, Urezzio herself realized why she was struggling with a situation of her own when she reread the Languages section of the book during the editing process. Urezzio hopes that readers will finish the book with a new sense that it is safe for everyone to truly be themselves, and that, the clich that you have everything you need inside of you is a clich for a reason, because it is true. Her goal is to avoid people spending time judging themselves because of their own uniqueness. Instead, I want them to learn to use those gifts, talents, and their Soul to create a life full of innovation, bliss, and adventure. Some of what the book offers to readers is the ability to discover mission as well as how to consciously or unconsciously rely on their own talents, natural gifts, and abilities. Urezzio also hopes that readers will

Urezzio stresses that one of the most important concepts of the book is detailed information about how to tap into the parts of the soul that contain the three languages. To help people accomplish this goal, Urezzio says, I teach how to move from unconscious behavior (operating from patterns, pain and struggle) to operating with awareness and consciousness (love, joy, peace, sustainability, etc.). The book is now available on Amazon.com. Curious readers can have their Soul Languages identified during a complimentary 15 minute phone call with a certified Soul Language practitioner.

"I don't know who, but hopefully we'll find out. It was much uglier than it was four years ago," when he was elected. Dougherty said that, "We ran a clean campaign. No negativity. " "They went very negative behind the scenes," he said. Dougherty said the overwhelming victory could be credited to the people of Morristown. "What carried the day were the people of Morristown," he said upon learning of his victory on election night. "That's who carried the day, and you see it in the numbers right there." By Ejvind Boccolini orristown Mayor Tim Dougherty was re-elected on Nov. 5, earning almost 70 percent of the votes out of all three candidates. Dougherty cites the togetherness of the community, transparency in local government, fiscal prudence and good planning as reasons for his success. Democrat Timothy Dougherty faced Republican Richard Babcock, and Independent Ed France. Dougherty received about 68 percent of the vote, Babcock about 23 percent, and France about 9 percent. YouTube videos by Kevin Coughlin show Dougherty commenting on his success. "It's a big victory," he said, just as the final numbers were in. going," he said. "Obviously you have to work with everybody and we will," he added. Dougherty, speaking on his victory, also noted that "I also attribute a lot of it to my council candidates who pulled in many, many votes." He said there is a long list of what he is looking forward to, but added that they were going to celebrate the victory, and "start work tomorrow morning." After winning the primary earlier this year, he said, "I think the town as a whole feels like we're moving in the right direction. We have the right message. We are a very transparent administration," he said. "I think the message was exactly what we ran on four years ago." He said, "We've kept our committment with the master plan; we've kept our committment with being transparent." "We're an open government. We communicate."

"And I think that there's been positive stuff going on in the town that I think this council group and myself reaped the rewards of: good planning, (being) smart and prudent with our finances all the things that you're supposed to do as a government." He also said, "I'll take a positive campaign any day over a negative campaign." "I'm proud of this team. I'm proud of the people that are here," he said, adding that "a lot of people put a lot of effort into this race." Dougherty, after the primary victory, also thanked the council for their work. "What a team," he said. "Everybody in this room. I don't have enough time to thank everybody. You all know what you did. I'm truly appreciative and so is this group who just won this primary for council." "No matter what, this country gives you the opportunity to run for office," and to put your ideas, visions and values on

the table, and "I think that's what we did and that's why we're victorious." "You're looking at something here that has not occurred in Morristown since I've been here - the Latinos are united," he noted. "My heartfelt thanks to the Latino community," he said. In recent debates, Dougherty noted that, in addition to other successes, the police department, department of public works and the firefighters have done great in the community and he also expressed his

goal to create more hightech jobs in the community. Richard Babcock, in a phone interview on Oct. 29 just days before the election, said he was glad that he brought certain issues to the table. He said that "certainly....we've been discussing the issues." He added, in the interview just before the election, that he hoped the voters paid attention to those issues "because they're very important." "So let's see what they decide," he said.

ccording to the American Automobile Association 2012/13 Year-End Holidays Travel Forecast, holiday travel has experienced a steady increase in volume over the last half-decade. Despite the sluggish economy, travel during the 2012/2013 end-of-year holiday season, defined as the period from Saturday, December 22, 2012 to Tuesday, January 1, 2013, was expected to be its highest since the 2006/2007 end-of-year holiday season, when 93.7 million travelers ventured at least 50 miles from home. Despite the cost of travel, travel volumes have traditionally remained very stable, with only one yearly volume change of 5 percent or greater, which was a 5 percent decline in the 2007/2008 season from a year earlier. One possible reason behind the steady nature of the end-of-year holiday travel season is the season's length. It remains the longest holiday season of the year, affording travelers more chances to visit friends and family members and/or go on vacations.

Community Crche Celebration, an exhibit featuring over two hundred nativity scenes, will be held on Friday, December 6; Saturday, December 7; and Sunday, December 8 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 283 James Street in Morristown. The event, which is free and open to the public, features crches, or nativity scenes, from around the world. An entire section of the exhibit will be devoted to nativity scenes from Central and South America. Designers will stage the crches all together in the multiple-purpose room at the church. In addition to the crche exhibit, several musical performances by instrumental groups, church and community choirs, and

There will also be a childrens room with Christmas crafts for young children. A live nativity tableau will also be enacted at scheduled times throughout the evening on Saturday and Sunday. endrik Meurkens, a virtuoso on both the chromatic harmonica and the vibraphone, is the most important jazz harmonica player since Toots Thielemans. Germanborn but now based in New York, Meurkens recordings and performances garner worldwide acclaim because the transcendent beauty of his music has universal appeal. Hendrik Meurkens profound involvement in both jazz and Brazilian music resulted in a very personal and instantly recognizable version of Samba jazz. This music, a cross-cultural amalgam guaranteed to touch the heart, features his harmonica and vibes along with piano, bass and drums, playing his stirring originals and arrangements. The group has been documented on a number of CDs, most notably the Hendrik Meurkens desert island disc, October Colors. As a featured artist, he has recorded with Charlie Byrd, Jimmy Cobb, Ivan Lins, Monty Alexander, Claudio Roditi, Manfredo Fest and Mundell Lowe, as well as backing such leading artists as Astrid Gilberto and Olivia Newton John and touring with the Ray Brown Trio, Paquito DRivera, Oscar Castro Neves, Herb Ellis, Herbie Mann, Charlie Byrd, and James Moody among many others. Also a successful composer (his compositions have been recorded by other artists and featured in the Hollywood movie, Dolores Claiborne,) Hendrik Meurkens remains equally at home playing jazz or Brazilian music. My mission is simple, he explains. I want to create music of great beauty. Like any great musician, Hendrik Meurkens still practices incessantly, yet his

music remains very melodic and rhythmically pleasing. I like beautiful music, Sinatra, Jobim, Charlie Parker, so I concentrate on playing things that the audience can enjoy. Complicated music doesnt really mean anything except for professionals who want to analyze it. I want people to feel what I do and the best way to do that is to play something touches their hearts. Thomas Edisons History Still Bonds Iconic Names and Timeless American Ideals Worth Publishing
16 years younger than Edison but would become one of his closest confidants. Henry Ford even bought a vacation home next door to the Edisons in Fort Myers, Florida. Henry Ford would become one of the famous Vagabonds of Edisons planned camping trips. Ford was the pioneer leader of the assembly line technique of mass production. He introduced the Model T automobile that revolutionized transportation and the American industry. He believed in paying his workers high wages and established the 8 hour work day. He believed in progressive wages for the factory worker so that the average working American could own one of his cars. Another household name to become a personal friend and camper of Thomas Edison was Harvey Samuel Firestone (December 20, 1868 February 7, 1938). He too would be a renowned American businessman of his century. Firestone was the founder of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. He was the first global producer of automobile tires. Ten years his senior, John Burroughs (April 3, 1837 March 29, 1921) was to Edison and his camping clutch a spiritual leader of nature. Burroughs was an American naturalist and essayist who led the 20th Centurys evolution of the U.S. conservation movement. Within the turn of the century Burroughs became a virtual cultural institution. He was the Grand Old Man of Nature when Americas budding romance was sparked by the idea of nature being a precious matter. He ushered the American conservation movement that still is strong today. The ideology of natures conservationism, an economically strong American workforce, and innovations that bring progressive living to every household remains an ideal and inspiration to us living in the 21st Century. Finding newly discovered correspondence and affiliations of Edison and his ilk still remains a current interest with new books and documents published on Edison. The inspiration of Edison lives on in West Orange, New Jersey where his laboratory and home have remained a permanent time capsule that can channel the spirit of this special era.
