Digital Unit Plan Template Unit Title: Circles Content Area: Geometry

CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s): 1. 2. 3. Identify and describe relationships among inscribed angles, radii Construct a tangent line from a point outside a given circle to the circle. Find arc lengths and areas of sectors of circles

Name: Rina Lee Grade Level: 9th-11th Grade

Big Ideas: Graphing: Students will learn how to graph circles, understand different sizes and the shifts of the circle, construct tangent lines, and be able to visualize circles. Definition: Students will learn and know different definitions about circles. Formula: Students will learn and will apply different formulas to solve different concepts of a circle. Arc Length: Students will learn how to solve for arc lengths and see how this is important to real life. Area of a Sector: Student will learn how to solve for area of a sector and see how this is important to real life

Unit Goals and Objectives: Students should be able to visualize a given circle, and know how to graph it. Students should know how to solve for arc lengths and area of a sector using different methods, and provide examples. Explain to other students how to solve for arc length and area of a sector, and how these are important in real life through presentation.

Unit Summary: Our unit is on circles. we will be learning about different concepts about circles. We will be looking at area, radii. diameter, inscribed angles, chords, tangent line, and much more. This unit plan consists of a lecture, webquest, graphic organizer, and also unit resources that will help students with the lesson. We will also learn how to graph circles, and use formulas to solve for specific problems. We will also be doing many different activities to help you to learn about circles. Assessment Plan: Entry-Level: KWL CHART Formative: ENTRY/EXIT TICKET QUIZ HANDPRINT RALLY QUIZ WEBCERISE Summative: EXAM PRESENTATION

Lesson 1 Student Learning Objective: Students learned different formulas, and know how to solve for arc length and area of a sector. Acceptable Evidence: Students completed the KWL chart. Students answered the entry/ exit tickets correctly. Students received at least a C on the quiz. Completed the Hand Print assignment. Lesson 2 Student Learning Objective: Students reviewed what they have learned before, and learn how to graph and visualize circles. Acceptable Evidence: Students were able to come up with their own examples, and were able to quiz each other. Students completed the webcerise. Lesson 3 Student Learning Objective: Students reviewed what they have learned before, and made connections between what they have learned. Acceptable Evidence: Students have completed the graphic organizers, and received at least a C. Student have taken an exam and received at least a C. Students completed a presentation, presented to the class, and received at least a C. Instructional Strategies: Communication Collection Collaboration Presentation Organization Interaction
Lesson Activities: Graphic Organizer: Students will create a graphic organizer on arc length and area of a sector. Exam: I will provide a exam, and students will complete it during class. Presentation: With a partner, students will create a presentation on arc length and area of a sector, and they will present it to the class.

Lesson Activities: Lecture: Students will look at a Prezi presentation that i have created. KWL chart: Students will fill out a chart which three categories; K(what students already know), W(what they would like to know), and L(what they have learned). Entry/ Exit tickets: I will provide a short problems that students will complete before they come into the classroom, or they exit the classroom. Quiz: I will provide a short quiz that students will complete during class. Hand Print: Students will draw their hand print on a piece of paper, and on each finger, they will write what they have learned that day.

Instructional Strategies: Communication Collection Collaboration Presentation Organization Interaction

Lesson Activities: Webcerise: I created a exercise where students browse the websites that i have provided, and answer the given questions. Rally Quiz: Students will make up few questions on their own, and they will quiz each other on the questions they have created.

Useful Websites:

California State Standards: This website can inform students and parents what the California State Standards are. Not only does this website contain state standards for math, but also for all subject areas. Parents can go to this website to know and understand what students are learning at school. Prezi: Students can use this website to create presentations or graphic organizers. Another than using power point, students can easily use this website. The website is easy to use and its free. Math Open Ref: Students can use to site to review what they have already learned, or discover know things. This website also provides interaction, where students can click on the figure and move it to see how the figure changes, on top of the page. This website is also organized in a way that students can easily understand the concepts. Khan Academy: This website provides activities and video for many different topics. This website is great for reviewing and learning new things because it provides a thorough explanation of a topic, and students can review what they learned by doing the review problems.
