Melody Foote Director of Communications Fayetteville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau 245 Person Street Fayetteville, NC 28301

Dear Ms. Foote: As a long-time admirer of the outstanding work that your organization has done in the community, I particularly would be honored to have your permission to conduct research on the local events/entertainment that male soldiers stationed here enjoy or would like to see come to Fayetteville. Because a large number of male soldiers are assigned to our city, weve grown to a point where the city needs to enhance its experience for this particular group of people that call Fayetteville home. This proposal outlines the complete scope of research, including objectives, procedures, identification of responsibilities, benefits, and estimated fees. OBJECTIVE The objective for this research is to obtain information that will help our community produce and market better events and entertainment aimed towards the male soldiers stationed here. While marketing events towards female soldiers is equally important, I wanted to focus this research on male soldiers in particular because I feel like our community focuses on events targeted towards women most of the time. Success of this research will show what single and married male soldiers are attracted to in our community, how we should reach out to them, and what we should focus on in the future. SCOPE OF RESEARCH 1. Reaching Our Market a. Target soldiers working on Ft. Bragg on a weekday morning/afternoon by having an inside soldier access our target market Our target market will be enlisted and commissioned male soldiers ages 18-39. This is a broad age group, but we want to compare and contrast the interests between single and married soldiers in this age group so that we can accompany both in the future

2.

Conducting Research a. Hiring a soldier to distribute and collect 50 questionnaires amongst their peers (to avoid any discrimination, women will be welcome to participate in the questionnaires, but they wont be analyzed for the purpose of this research study) Interviewing (4) male soldiers, (2) single and (2) with families, who are stationed at Ft. Bragg either in person or over the telephone, based on their preference. These soldiers will be compensated $25 for a 30 minute interview and will be asked at random by the soldier distributing the questionnaires. Their information will be collected and I will contact them within 24 hours to set up a date and time for the interview.

3. Analyzing Our Findings a. b. Quantitative methods will be used to compare the questionnaire findings All soldiers interviewed will be asked a set of questions based on whether they are single or married, and will be compared The findings will be written up in an official report that will be presented to the administration department on Monday December 9, 2013.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES This project demands significant involvement by your research and data manager, David Nash. Ultimate success is highly dependent on their effort to use the analyzed data to plan appropriate events and entertainment in the future. To help achieve a smooth and successful implementation, it will be your responsibility to perform the following: 1. 2. Distribute an up-to-date brief on this information to all personnel in the organization Compile a complete list of all the local vendors/grants payable, including addresses, phone numbers, vendor terms, vendor classes, and other necessary vendor/grant information. This information will be useful later for planning events/promotions Create a complete list of the existing events for the remainder of the calendar year and for 2014. We will use this information to see what we should add, eliminate, adjust, etc.

3.

BENEFITS When the research is complete, our community will have a better understanding of how to serve the male soldiers stationed here. Benefits include producing successful events, entertainment, and business ideas. RESEARCH FEES Hiring a questionnaire distributor and compensating interviewers will be necessary. Compensation for these fees will be required from your sales department prior to starting. CLOSING I would appreciate the opportunity to research this community need. If you decide to accept this research proposal, please sign the form on the following page and return it to me either by fax, email, or in person.

Sincerely,

Kenda McClimon Market Researcher
