This classically shaped hoodie is that easy piece that can be thrown on over jeans for a relaxing weekend. Simple, with small details to make it special, the Austin Hoodie is worked in Tosh Merino Light, a rounded single ply yarn dyed in Madelinetoshs exquisite and subtle colorways. The main body of the hoodie is worked at a larger than called for gauge to create a light fabric while the woven slipped st section is worked doubled to play with alternating sheerness with opacity. Great for layering, the Austin hoodie is perfect for whatever season you nd yourself knitting it in. Its sporty shape can be softened by adding delicate buttons and securing them with crocheted button loops. Knit in one piece up to the armholes with set in sleeves that are picked up directly from the body of the sweater, minimal nishing ensures that once this project is cast off, its ready to go.

Notes: 1) Worked at in one piece to the armholes. Back and fronts are then worked separately. Shoulders are seamed. Seam sts are slipped on the RS and purled on the WS throughout the body before splitting the piece into the back and fronts. 2) Woven section begins just before underarm shaping and uses two strands of yarn and the smaller needle. 3) Sleeves are picked up around the armhole and short rows are then worked to shape sleeve cap. Sleeve is then worked in the round to the cuffs. 4) The 3rd and 5th sizes will have left fronts whose ribbing wont match up exactly with the ribbing on the back piece at the shoulder line (they will be approximately one st off ), but this is necessary to make the 2 front pieces mirror images of each other. Ti p 1: If you nd yourself with holes where you pick up the sts again for the hood, I suggest using a trick I use for lling in holes for mittens/glovespick up a few extra sts in those areas and then decrease the sts down again to the specied number in the pattern as soon as you can (usually by the next row). Ti p 2: To minimize holey-ness where you pick up stitches around the armcycle for the sleeve cap, knit through the back loop the rst time you knit the picked up stitches. That will tighten up the sts and after that rst knit, you can resume normal knitting through the front.
