wow piu..never knew so much about ravan..he has invented all these btw samveda by ravan??? ,,i dont think so..was it not by Brahma...

...interesting

and yea i agree ravan has got so many layers ..even till date ravan is worshipped as God in some parts of Sri Lanka.. edit : i googled and found out he has written some parts of rig veda...piu thanks for this information...now when i google am seeing all these contributions by ravan which u listed

My fav is Seeta...I always admired her courage and conviction to voluntarily undertake agnipareeksha, knowing and understanding her husband's dilemma, she was not only ideal and devoted wife for a weak husband(before you all start raising your fists please refer to the link I have attached) but also a self-confident and self-reliant woman who single handedly brought up her two children when banished to exile by her husband...more info here... http://www.exoticindiaart.com/article/sita/

Piu,thank you for the info I had read a lot of stories about this.Ravana was a well versed pandit,an accomplished musician and a huge shiv bhakt.He was also a benevolent king to his praja...his people were happy under his rule.If only he had remained humble and had not dared to covet another man's wife which proved to his downfall.Ravana is an important character.Without him there would be no Ramayana.I would love to see someone show us his side of the story.I always wanted to see that. Aditi,I agree with you.That is my only grudge against the main character.Sitaji had to suffer so much.She was a princess and after marriage a queen but she had spent most of her life in the jungle or in captivity.I can never get over the fact that even after the agni pariksha(which was totally not needed)she was banished.I don't want to say anything more negative but that one thing always stops me from appreciating the hero of this story.Sorry if I offended anyone.It was not my intention.I am just stating my personal opinion.

Was Ravan really a Shiva Bhakta? Yes, his devotion to Lord Shiva was great at one point, but he failed to recognize Lord Shiva when Hanumanji came to Lanka. He insulted his Kuldevta by having his tail burnt and humiliated. A TRUE devotee always recognizes his Lord and would never ever insult him, but Ravan failed in that so I never really accepted that he was a great Shiva bhakta.

Guys, please do not insult the Ramayana by calling Lord Rama a weak husband. It may be your opinion but we cannot forget that he was GOD and God can do no wrong. What happened in the treta yuga, the customs of that time, are unknown to us and we cannot judge them by what we believe now. I do not read any feminist articles on Sita because all they do is foster hate and anger towards God, which I never support. Before pointing fingers at Lord Ram, actually read the scriptures that describe the story than some feminist article. Remember that this is a forum where everyone's beliefs must be respected. Intolerance or Criticism towards religion or a specific God is certainly not condoned and all such posts will be reported, regardless of opinion.

As for me, I love Lord Ram and Devi Sita the best. To me, they are not different at all but simply different forms of the same Bhagwaan. Lord Ram is the male form and Devi Sita is the female form. Their leelas on Earth are not to be questioned, even if they may seem controversial, because they are God and God are not like humans to have faults and make mistakes. Everything they did happened for a reason and as humans, we honestly have no right to question them.
