WELCOME Welcome to the Middleton Youth Basketball program. Thank you for volunteering your time, effort and commitment. We are a CORI-certified, volunteer-based nonprofit organization incorporated in the state of Massachusetts. We provide instructional basketball programming for boys and girls in grades K -8 and boys in grades 9-12. This program is entirely funded through sponsors, donations and registration fees. With the exception of the Girls and Boys 7/8 Grade Travel Teams, all games and practices will take place in town at Middleton elementary schools, unless otherwise required. CORI BACKGROUND CHECKS Middleton Youth Basketball, Inc., is certified by the MA Dept. of Criminal Justice Information Services to conduct CORI background checks. This certification is mandated for all organizations that provide activities for children age 18 years or younger. All coaches, assistants, program staff and volunteers ages 18+ are required to submit CORI applications along with a copy of their photo ID. CORI reports will at all times remain confidential and secure. CONTACT INFORMATION Coaches, assistants and volunteers must provide their home and email addresses and home and cell phone numbers in order to participate in the program. This information is required by the Tri-Town Superintendent of Public Schools to allow use of the Middleton elementary school gyms. Please indicate your preferred method of contact. GYM TIME & USE RESTRICTIONS GYM USE Facility use privileges are determined and awarded by the Tri-Town Superintendent of Public Schools with specific rules and requirements. Middleton Youth Basketball has been granted use of the Howe Manning and Fuller Meadow School gyms from December 2, 2013 through March 31, 2014. Please see Facility Use Guidelines attached for specific information regarding Tri-Town Schools security mandates. GAMES Grades K-6: Howe Manning School Gym Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 5pm to 7pm and on Saturdays from 8am to 11am. Games for grades K-6, boys and girls, will be held at the Howe Manning School gym during these hours. Per order of the TriTown School Union, there is no food or drink allowed in the Howe Manning School gym at any time. Adult supervision of all siblings, friends and spectators is required at all times. Roaming will not be tolerated. GAMES Grades 7/8 Travel Teams All home games will take place at Howe Manning School Gym. Away games will be on the road at facilities in surrounding towns. 7/8 Grade Travel Boys will play all games, home or away, on Thursday evenings starting at 6PM. 7/8 Grade Travel Girls will play all games, home or away, on Friday evenings starting at 6PM. PRACTICES Grades 3/4, and Girls Grades 5/6 & 7/8, Howe Manning School Gym 3/4 Grade Boys practice Wednesday evenings, 5PM-6PM. 3/4 Grade Girls practice Saturday mornings, at 8AM, 9AM, or 10AM. 5/6 Grade Girls practice Friday evenings, 5PM-6PM. 7/8 Grade Girls practice at the discretion of the Head Coach after school on a weekday TBD. Practice time slots are one hour. For best use of practice time, the Howe Manning School Gym will accommodate all teams from the same division (i.e., 3/4 girls, 3/4 boys) per practice hour. Per order of the Tri-Town School Union, there is no food or drink allowed in the Fuller Meadow School gym at any time. Adult supervision of all siblings, friends and spectators is required at all times. Roaming will not be tolerated. PRACTICES AT HOWE MANNING SCHOOL GYM Wednesdays Thursdays 5PM-6PM: 5PM-6PM: 3/4 Boys x 3 (Practice) 7/8 Girls (Practice) Fridays 5PM-6PM: 5/6 Girls (Practice) Saturdays 8AM, 9AM or 10AM: 3/4 Girls x 4 (Practice)

PRACTICES Boys Grades 5/6 and 7/8, Fuller Meadow School Gym 5/6 Grade Boys practice Monday, Thursday or Friday evenings, 7:15PM-9PM. 7/8 Grade Boys practice Tuesday evenings, 7:15PM-9PM. Practice time slots are for one hour and forty-five minutes (1 hr., 45 min.), but can be adjusted at the discretion of the Head Coach. Per order of the Tri-Town School Union, there is no food or drink allowed in the Fuller Meadow School gym at any time. Adult supervision of all siblings, friends and spectators is required at all times. Roaming will not be tolerated. PRACTICES AT FULLER MEADOW SCHOOL GYM Mondays Tuesdays 7:15PM-9PM 7:15PM-9PM 5/6 Boys (Practice) 7/8 Boys (Practice) PROGRAM GUIDELINES TEAM COACHES Each team will have one Head Coach. For Kindergarten and 1/2 grades, additional volunteer coaches will be assigned as assistants by Middleton Youth Basketball or selected by a teams Head Coach. For 3/4 and 5/6 grade boys and girls teams, assistant coaches will be determined after the Draft Pick Meetings by Middleton Youth Basketball or a teams Head Coach. Please note: For grades 3-6, assistants cannot be assigned prior to team formations. TEAM FORMATION & DRAFT To keep our league healthy and competitive, Middleton Youth Basketball holds Evaluation/Skills & Drills to organize players and balance teams. After Evaluations, 3/4 and 5/6 Grade teams will be determined by draft at Draft Pick Meetings. Please see Draft Pick Rules & Regulations on Page 5 of this handout. Middleton Youth Basketball will determine teams for the 1/2 and Kindergarten age groups. TEAM EQUIPMENT Middleton Youth Basketball will supply basketballs for program use to each Head Coach before the first game or practice. Head Coaches will be responsible for the transport and storage of game equipment during the course of the season. Head Coaches will return equipment to Middleton Youth Basketball at the conclusion of the last game of the season. MIDDLETON YOUTH BASKETBALL, INC. 3/4 GIRLS AND BOYS 5/6 BOYS
(There is no Draft for 5/6 Grade Girls for the 2013-2014 Season)

DRAFT PICK RULES & REGULATIONS

1. Head Coaches will draw a number to determine their place in the first round of the draft. For each round thereafter, numbers will reverse. I.e., 1st round (1-4), 2nd round (4-1), 3rd round (14), and so on. 2. Assistant Coaches will be declared or assigned after all teams are formed. 3. To help ensure competitiveness between teams and for convenience, players will be grouped according to skill/experience level. The Draft will progress in accordance to skill/level groups. In addition, please note the following: a) Coaches can choose their own children as players in accordance with their childs skill/experience level; b) A coach can use his/her draft pick turn to choose any player for his team, regardless of skill level; and, c) If a player is picked and he/she has a sibling who is playing in the same gender/age group, the coach must take the other sibling and it will count as the next draft pick. 4. Coaches will have one minute per pick until draft is concluded. 5. 5/6 grade girls and boys teams will wear official Middleton Youth Basketball uniforms for all games. Middleton Youth Basketball assigns team colors for all other age groups. 6. Middleton Youth Basketball officers will rule on any controversial event. The purpose of the draft is to try to make teams even and promote good competition. Please be fair and just with your conduct. Thank you for your time.
